"Wait!!!" I heard a shout from behind me as I opened the door and stepped outside the house.

I turned to look at Upma and gave her a questioning glance to which she blushed and embarrassedly said "I'm sorry about Jas's behaviour. You've saved our life and have been nothing but good to us so far. Our behaviour toward you is unacceptable. Please accept my apologies."

As she said that, the door behind her opened once again and Jasvinder came out with a concerned frown in his face. He was gazing at Upma and from the looks of it, it felt like he didn't knew what to do anymore.

"It's nothing." I said with a smile and tried to save him the embarrassment but his frown got only deeper.

"It's not nothing." Upma said and threw a steely gaze toward Jasvinder.

She looked rather cute at that moment and I looked around at the surroundings to check if there were anything potentially dangerous.

"Jas. Apologize to him." She said and Jasvinder's frown deepened for a moment as they locked their gazes but Upma's gaze only became even steelier and after a twenty second long and silent confrontation, Jasvinder finally sighed and averted his gaze with a defeated posture.

"Alright then." He said and looked at me with a embarrassment and I tried to stifle my chuckle at his downtrodden posture.

"I… I'm sorry." He said in a whisper and I had to use all my willpower to stop myself from laughing at his reluctant gaze. It was as if apologizing was the hardest and most vilest thing he had ever done in his life.

Upma continued to look at him with a frown and something told me that she was not glad with a half assed apology. But looking at Jasvinder, I also knew that she was not going to get anything more from him so she finally sighed as well and diverted her gaze from the poor soul.

"He's not a very social person. Please forgive him." She said with a bow and I chuckled in response.

"Think nothing of it."

Upma cheered a bit at my response and asked with a nervous glance. "Are you still willing to take us?" Jasvinder's frown deepened once again and I could tell that he was not very happy with the prospect of coming with me but by now I had realized who was the true boss in their relationship.

"Alright. You can come." I said and took out bought twenty blue crystals before giving ten to each of them.

Upma looked at the pills for a moment before understanding my intentions and bowed toward me once again. "Thanks for these. We'll try our best and make sure that we don't slow you down."

"Hmm…" I nodded in consent. "Go and take your bags. We'll leave when you're ready."

—————

"So… can you tell us where we are going." Upma asked as I took my sword from the corpse of the mutant monkey.

I looked at the twenty plus group of mutant monkeys who had ambushed us at this place with a frown. It was the first time I had been ambushed by these creatures after all.

The fact that the strongest among them was only a weak 2nd tier was the only saving grace.

If it had been a 3rd tier, then our surviving chances would have decreased significantly.

I looked up at the dense trees where they were hiding with a deep frown. 'They are getting more smarter.'

'Indeed they are.' Lily said and I looked at Upma and Jasvinder. Both of them had blood stained in their bodies and I could tell that they were not spared in his conflict either.

'Both of them are surprisingly good with their weapons.' I thought as I looked at their swords which was covered with blood by now.

'Indeed. They are very skilled with their swords.' Lily said and I looked around of any other mutant beast in the vicinity.

'Do you think they are '2nd timers' as well?' I asked.

'Is there any doubt about that?' Lily asked back.

I thought for a short moment before replying 'No. No there isn't.'

I used the Clipping glove and started taking out the cores from their corpses. "My brother."

"Your brother?" Upma asked.

"Yes. He's in a town some sixty kilometers away from here." I replied and watched as she skillfully cut through the skull of the beast she had killed at took out the blood covered core from within it.

"We won't reach him today." Upma said as she looked at the sun in the distance. "Unless you want to cover ground in the dark as well."

"Most of the mutant beasts become more active at night." Jasvinder said with a frown on his face. "And we can't see much of anything at night."

I wondered if I should tell them that I can see just well in the dark because of my night vision but then decided against it.

"We still have three to four hours of light with us." I said and took out the walkie talkie from with the spatial ring. "If we cover 10 more kilometers then we'll enter the range and I'll be able to talk with him with this."

Upma looked at it and nodded before wiping away the blood from her face with a spare cloth. "So we need to cover 10 more kilometers before the end of the night. That's hard for us. But doable."

She then looked at Jasvinder and both bought a few green crystals in exchange for the cores they had collected till now.

"Let's get moving." She said and we continued our journey once again. Just that this time, I paid a bit more attention to my surroundings. Especially the dense trees.
