608 – Hecatoncheir

I fly towards the tower. Once I’ve gotten part of the way there, the hecatoncheir suddenly stirs and raises its sword. It really is alive… I knew from its status, but it was still hard to imagine that it could be alive without a head and with so many arms.

『…You lost your sense of self, and were made to guard here for thousands of years. Let’s do this, Hecatoncheir! I’ll put an end to you!』

While closing in, I release a [Dimension Claw]. The hecatoncheir’s stone surface becomes faintly scratched. I release three more [Dimension Claws] in follow up.

Taking my attacks without flinching, it swings its giant sword. But, its movement is too big, and it’s not very fast. It might be a hasty counterattack while under fire, but compared to Lilixira it’s a poor movement.

I fly up and twist my body to quickly change my trajectory. The air behind me is cut. I successfully avoided its distance-ignoring blade on the first time.

Just because an attack ignores distance, it doesn’t mean it can’t be dodged. I had a lot of my attacks dodged by Howgrey and Lilixira, so I know this well.

While continuing to close the distance, I send out another [Dimension Claw]. I aim at the same spot, deepening the wound. I’ve already hit it five times now.

My sixth [Dimension Claw] is blocked by its sword. Immediately after, it swings its sword to release a [Dimension Rend]. Unable to dodge in time, it cuts into my shoulder.

My scales are cut and blood sprays out. But it’s not a lot of damage. It seems I’ll be fine even if I take a lot of hits. I can easily heal this much with [High Rest] or [Autoregeneration], so there’s no need for me to fight timidly.

My seventh [Dimension Claw] is also blocked, but my eighth lands true. It’s not able to completely react in time to me.

What should I do? If I can overcome it with [Dimension Claw], then there might be no need for me to approach it. I might be able to do this with less danger than I was expecting. For now, I’ll check its HP…

[Hecatoncheir]
Species: Hecatoncheir
Condition: God of Madness
Lv: 140/140 (MAX)
HP: 9689/10000
MP: 9937/10000

I-it’s less than I expected…! It has a bunch of regeneration skills, so trying to overwhelm it with [Dimension Claw] could quickly become an endurance contest. Its MP is also stupidly high, so I’d probably be forced to withdraw after running out of MP.

This is probably the effect of [Physical Resistance: LvMAX] and [Physical Damage Halving: Lv-]. The damage is being reduced by a lot. No, that’s not all. Halving the damage it’s taking means the MP it needs to heal is also halved. That aspect is much scarier than its effectively double HP.

But, even so, that doesn’t mean I should use magic to attack. It has [Magic Resistance: LvMAX] and [Magic Decomposition: LvMAX], so using magic would probably end similarly.

…I guess I have no choice but to fight in close quarters. I can do more damage with a direct attack than with [Dimension Claw] after all. So there’s no reason to slowly waste my MP like this.

There’s no point trying to fight it in a battle of attrition. It’s by far the toughest monster I’ve ever seen, much tougher than even an ouroboros or world treant.

It’s worse than I expected. This could be harder than I had thought. I stop using [Dimension Claw] and dive towards it, slamming my tail into it.

I had meant to knock it flying, but all that happens is that its surface cracks slightly and it staggers. My strength should be able to overwhelm it though…!

The recoil from my tail attack launched me back, so I should have plenty of distance again. But, the hecatoncheir’s body shifts into black mist, and it closes in on me incredibly fast. Before I can process what I’m seeing, it materialises next to me and swings its sword.

This must have been its [Shadow Dance] skill.

【Normal skill [Shadow Dance]】
【By sinking into the user’s shadow, a fast moving step is performed.】

It’s simple but brutally effective. I need to be careful not to underestimate its ability to suddenly move around. Even though it’s limited, it’s troubling that it can overturn our difference in speed.

I block the hecatoncheir’s downward swing with my foreleg, and lash out with my other foreleg to counterattack. As it staggers, I open my mouth and bite into its side.

It’s stupidly hard… But, I caught it! My fangs dig into its surface. I’ll force it into a close-quarters fight like this!

The hecatoncheir’s countless fists pummel my back. Its number of attacks is annoying, but I can easily negate this much with [Autoregeneration]. I scratch its chest with my claws again and again. If I can just break through the surface, it should get a lot easier for me to deal damage!

I swing my claws up into it hard. But, they pass straight through it.

『Ah…?』

At the same time, my teeth lose their target and my jaw slams shut.

It changed itself into black mist to break free from me, regaining some distance. I see… This [Shadow Dance] skill isn’t for attacking. No, it’s no doubt effective for attacking too. But, its real value is in it allowing the hecatoncheir to escape from dilemmas at low cost.

『…It seems you prefer making this a mudslinging contest. Sure, I’ll take you on.』

This is bad… I might have less leeway in this battle than I thought. I thought a battle in which my HP won’t suddenly be cut down would be easy. But, that applies in reverse too.
