We’ve succeeded in pincering the hecatoncheir between me, Miia, and treant. In this way, treant can stay on the front and take most of the attacks, allowing the rest of us to attack it all together.
『Now, come and attack me!』
Treant extends an arm-like branch, punching the air. The hecatoncheir takes a wide detour around him, running towards me instead.
『Wh-why!?』
…Well, this would happen. The hecatoncheir isn’t stupid. It knows that if it were to attack him, it’d be exposed to our attacks.
『I won’t let you ignore me!』
Treant swings his thick branch down, striking the hecatoncheir as it passes. It doesn’t even try to dodge. It was a direct hit, but it doesn’t look like it did any damage at all. Several of the hecatoncheir’s arms push the branch aside, and it presses on without slowing down. Treant frowns in frustration.
But, he still made it a little harder for it to move. The moment its retreat is blocked by a branch, Miia and I attack simultaneously. The way it pushed through treant so forcefully has made it full of openings. I slam my tail into its back, while at the exact same time, Miia cuts its abdomen with her sword. A moment later, Aro’s [Dark Sphere] hits.
The hecatoncheir’s body sinks into shadow. [Shadow Dance] again.
This is working…! The interval between [Shadow Dances] is getting shorter. Now that treant is on the battlefield, it has a lot less freedom of movement. As he is now, treant really does have incredibly good compatibility for this fight.
Miia seemed to be recommending it, but against the xiangliu, I thought the difference between their attack power, and the opponent’s health was too much for him to take on a tank role. But this time, not only is Aro here, but also Miia and I. No matter how strong the hecatoncheir is, it can’t afford to focus down treant.
I suspected this strategy would work. But, I never imagined it would be so effective. We’ve clearly gained the upper hand.
Just as the hecatoncheir reappears, Miia plunges down from right above it.
“With your movements restricted this much, it’s easy to know where you’re going with [Shadow Dance]!”
The hecatoncheir swiftly flicks its sword up to block. The swords collide again and again. But, on the third time, Miia sword slips through and cuts the hecatoncheir.
『[Ideal Weapon]!』
I produce another weapon as I change my forelegs into arms with [Dragon Mirror]. The weapon I’ve chosen to go with this time isn’t [Oneiros Mallet], but rather a giant sword.

[Oneiros Mallet] would deal a little more damage, but after thinking about it for a bit, I chose to go with [Oneiros Raizem] instead. I immediately thrust it towards the hecatoncheir. It blocks with its own sword. As our blades collide, one of treant’s giant branches preses down on its head.
『[Woven Armour]…!』
Thin branches grow out, wrapping around the hecatoncheir’s body.
『I caught it!』
The hecatoncheir’s body sinks into shadow. [Shadow Dance] again. But this has shaved down its MP further.
“[Dark Sphere]!”
The black sphere that Aro shoots pierces the hecatoncheir’s fleeing shadow. The explosion shatters the ground, and the hecatoncheir reappears. A new crack is visible in its shoulder.
“Dragon-god-sama! When it enters the shadows, only physical attacks are nullified I think! It can be hit with magic, or at least [Dark Sphere]!”
I had thought that might be the case. I wasn’t able to verify before, but now Aro has proven it. Landing a hit with magic is hard when it’s so fast, but Aro was able to shoot just before it started moving.
The moment it appears, Miia strikes with [Shockwave], following up right away with a direct sword attack. I also swoop down, swinging [Oneiros Raizem]. The hecatoncheir jumps to the side to avoid the incoming branch from treant, and takes the chance to swings its sword up. Treant’s branch falls down.
『Treant, are you okay!?』
『This much is fine! I’m a little worried that it’s attacking me less than expected though. I’m going to press the attack!』
『Yeah, try and catch it again and force it to use [Shadow Dance]!』
Treant looks incredibly reassuring now. The plan had been for him to use [Undying Regeneration] to tank until his MP ran out, but it looks like he doesn’t even need to use it. The hecatoncheir is completely losing to our numbers advantage. It can’t afford to focus him while he acts to disrupt it.
“Irushia-kun, you should avoid moving far from where you are now. It looks like the hecatoncheir can’t move away from the tower entrance. It’s stuck with some sort of restriction. So as long as treant-kun can keep getting in its way, it shouldn’t be able to to avoid being pincered by us.”
『Got it, Miia!』
My sword and Miia’s swing in turns to break pieces off the hecatoncheir’s body. Perhaps wanting to regain its posture, it again sinks into the shadows.
Aros’ [Dark Sphere] pierces it. The shadow destroyed, the hecatoncheir quickly reappears.
“I was waiting for it!”
Aro says proudly.

I swing my [Oneiros Raizem] down hard. Bright, divine-feeling light coats the blade.
