There is a guest’s detached house in our house.

It is a one-story house with only about ten tatami mats in size, but it is still well-built, and the interior is nicely finished with wooden flooring.

There are two semi-double-sized beds, and the earthen floor with a sunken hearth is fully equipped with seating, and the temperature and air conditioning are controlled by a ward, so it is always comfortable.

Well, there is a toilet (it’s a flush), but there is no bath or washbasin, as expected. We have prepared a jug of water, a washbasin, and a towel, just in case.

“It’s a little inconvenient, but you’ll sleep here today.”

The only people who stay here are peddler An-chan or an adventurer he knows (a party of four), so it’s not a full-blown hobby, though.

“It’s not as inconvenient as the first-class innkeepers in the capital. On the contrary, it’s more respectable than a nobleman’s bedroom!”

“Fu~n. You’re so simple, aren’t you? I thought you’d have a room full of gold.”

“I don’t know where you draw the line of common sense…”

“Well, he’s a clueless kid in a rural area with no idea what he’s talking about.”

“It’s not so much about common sense as it is about insanity, in your case…”

It’s a pretty scathing ramble. Well, there’s no way to argue with that.

“Anyway, have you calmed down in your belly?”

He seemed to like Sapuru’s cooking so much that he devoured quite a bit and couldn’t move for an hour or so.

“I’m calm. But it’s been a long time since I’ve had a meal that good.”

“Don’t big businessmen always eat well?”

“I’m a big businessman, but that doesn’t mean I’m eating good food. I prefer to move around rather than sit in a shop. Most of my meals are stew and hard bread, and the inns I always reside in are simple. Well, there are some good cooks, but they can only make the same kind of food because they have to use the same ingredients. It’s a miracle that there are such an abundance of ingredients as in Bei’s place and such skilled cooks as Sapuru.”

“Hmm. That’s another thing you’ve lost in your life. Not getting any good food.”

I know this because my staple food was a foregone conclusion from the supermarket. What a blessing it is to be able to eat good food. It just makes your life brighter.

“I envy you, Bei, for being able to eat such good food every day.”

“So, do you want to retire and live here? I could build you a house.”

“It’s a tempting offer, but I pride myself on being a merchant, and I can’t retire that easily.”

“That’s a shame. I thought we’d have plenty to talk about.”

“As much as I’d love to have you guys here, I’m not going to be able to invite you, so I’ll come to you.”

“You’re welcome to join us.”

In the countryside, where there is no entertainment, guests from afar are so big that the circus comes. I’ll throw confetti on them and welcome them.

“By the way, what are you going to do about the ship?”

“But first, Kaichou-san, do you guys like to drink?”

“Oh, yeah. I like it, but … so what?”

“Wait a minute,” and went to the storage room and came back with a small barrel.

“What’s that?”

“Do you know what Distilled liquor is?”

“Distilled liquor? Booze, is it?”

Gee, I thought it existed because there are quite a few different types of alcohol, but there aren’t any. I don’t understand the way this world has developed.

“Well, seeing it will be worth more than a thousand words, try it.”

I poured about half the water from the jug into a glass cup, froze it round with the magic of wind and heat, and poured it out, sealing the vat. Oops, I didn’t have a stirring rod.

I held out the finished product to them.

“…”

“…”

Wordlessly, they stared at the glass cup, and then, without meaning to, they picked it up and sipped it.

The two of them are surprised. They stared at each other, unsure of what to do with the first taste.

“I don’t drink, so I don’t know what it tastes like, but is it supposed to be drinkable?”

I knew how to make it, so I gave it a try, although I didn’t know how it tasted in my previous life as well, because I was a Geko. I knew how to make it, so I tried it.

“It’s hot enough to burn your throat, but it’s flavorful and really good!”

“Yes! I’ve never had a liquor with such a high alcohol content! This will sell!”

“Oh. I see. If you can use the barrier to go forward in time, you can stop time, so you can make it go forward, right? (Thinking like that) Aren’t you done? You’re right, warding is super useful.”

“If you like it, I’ll do it and I’ll teach you how to make it. I’ll teach you how to make them, and you can even tell me your old stories as a reward for that. I don’t have the spirit for adventure, but I am curious enough to want to hear about other people’s adventures.”

Most people would only torture themselves with stories about the old man, but for me, it’s like watching a movie. I would have paid to hear it.

“There’s something childish about you, Bei.”

“I’m a real kid. I’m ten years old.”

“You’re not very convincing!”

They were adults when it’s convenient. When things go bad, you’re a child. That proves you’re a kid, doesn’t it?

“Fuu~. Men will always be children. They’ll always be boys.”

What a nihilistic smile. No particular point.
