Chapter 246        I'm One of a Kind

“Since I’ve used your name when submitting the dissertation, you can have the honor. I don’t really care about fame, but I do care about actual authority. I have one condition: I want to stay behind-the-scenes and have full control of the money as well as all the research program.”

“So you want me to hand you all my work?”

“That’s right!”

“You’re just a high school graduate and you’re trying to give me, an associate professor, commands? Brat, your understanding of biology is still way lower than mine.”

“But I’ve managed to get world-class results.”

“You’re just lucky!”

“But you don’t even know how to be lucky. So, do you agree or disagree with me? I’ll be fine if you disagree to compromise with me. All you need to do is find another person to write a world-class dissertation for you.”

“Brat, how dare you try to threaten me!”

Zhou Qingfeng and Xu Guoqiang had locked themselves inside the room and had been arguing with each other for the past ten minutes. In the end, Xu Guoqiang agreed to have all the honor, while Zhou Qingfeng will take control of everything behind the scenes.

This was the best way for both of them to work together. Actually, Xu Guoqiang was also impressed buy Zhou Qingfeng’s ability to learn in the past two weeks. He felt that Zhou Qingfeng did not seem like a high school graduate at all. His memory and the way he thinks can even be said to exceed that of someone with a Master’s degree or Ph.D. That kid was a complete freak.

The most important thing was that Zhou Qingfeng had seen a lot of information left by Professors Alonzo and Kelvin. In the past, he could not understand any of it. However, he was now able to come up with many constructive ideas and opinions as he learned more and more. Sometimes, Zhou Qingfeng even taught Xu Guoqiang, who had been conducting research for more than twenty years, with only single words. This was extremely important for Xu Guoqiang.

He had spent his lifetime on scientific research and even sacrificed his marriage for it. He either had the zealous dedication to science or an extreme desire for fame. Zhou Qingfeng felt that it was the latter, as even though Xu Guoqiang was not bad in terms of academics, he was never at the top of his field.

After the two came to an agreement, Zhou Qingfeng then decided to take a good rest. Long periods of studying was extremely physically and mentally exhausting. It might even be more exhausting with a brain of his intensity. Hence, one should rest his brain in order to have consistent, if not better, results.

“Hey, handsome man. Why don’t you go and meet those leaders?” Someone ran to Zhou Qingfeng’s room and sat down by his bedside.

Zhou Qingfeng was leaning on the bedside, watching the news on his mobile phone at the moment. He lifted his head and saw that Yan Tao’s fiancée was standing in front him. She was around a year or two older than Zhou Qingfeng and she likes finding someone to talk to each time she delivered meals. “Why do I have to meet them? I don’t want to have any relation to them.”

“You’re so cool.” Yan Tao’s fiancée took a peek at Zhou Qingfeng’s phone and she then asked, “What are you looking at?”

“Entertainment news.”

“What kind of girls do you like?”

“Pretty girls.”

“Am I pretty then?”

“You're not bad.”

All of a sudden, Yan Tao entered the room, flustered. When he saw his fiancée, he immediately straightened his face and said, “You should go home after sending the meal. Never run around in the lab. There are many dangerous things in this place.”

When mentioning ‘dangerous things’, Yan Tao even threw a glance at Zhou Qingfeng. Apparently, he referred to the young kid with an unknown origin as ‘dangerous thing’. Fortunately, his fiancée was very obedient, she left after bursting into laughter.

As Yan Tao did not leave Zhou Qingfeng’s room, the latter then asked, “Is there anything else?”

“We’ve encountered a problem. Howard has come again. He said that he would like to meet Professor Xu Guoqiang in private, but the professor asked me to come to you and said that you're qualified to attend their discussion.” Zhou Qingfeng can sense that something was not right by looking at Yan Tao’s face.

Sure enough, when he joined their discussion, he saw that the white man was squawking over Xu Guoqiang and said, “ Assoc Prof Xu, on behalf of the Hopkins Medical Centre, I now urge you to stop all your research GMO enzymes immediately. Your dissertation is an infringement of our patent.”

“What nonsense are you talking about? How the hell is it possible for our research to actually infringe your patent?”

“Yes, you’re plagiarising our work. We have evidence to prove that your research is entirely plagiarised from Prof. Steve Alonzo’s research. Prof. Alonzo began working on genetically modified organisms as early as ten years ago and he is an employee of our medical center. These research results should belong to us.”

Steve Alonzo?!

Zhou Qingfeng was completely dumbfounded.

Howard happily dropped several so-called ‘pieces of evidence’ on the table. He even brought a lawyer with him and took a formal lawyer letter that demanded Xu Guoqiang’s Biochemical Laboratory to immediately stop infringing upon the rights of Hopkins Medical Center.

"This is flat out bullsh*t! We’re the first to discover the right application for the research, not to mention Steve Alonzo's progress is still far from completion." Xu Guoqiang was able to immediately understand what tricks his opponents played after looking at the so-called evidence.

"But you can't deny that your results are based on Professor Alonzo's research." Howard smiled as if he had already won. "We can go to court to sue you, whether in the United States or in China. Even if we can’t completely win over you in the end, we can still drag you guys into the whirlpool of lawsuits. It’s totally impossible for you guys to beat us with your current power."

This sudden incident had really hit Zhou Qingfeng by surprise. He always wanted to wait until he was plump enough before approaching Professor Alonzo. He was dumbfounded when someone was trying to cause him some trouble in the name of Steve Alonzo.

Zhou Qingfeng did not know how to defend himself and the reason was pretty simple. The dissertation he produced was originally written by Professor Alonzo a few years later. Hence, it made total sense if his current dissertation contained Professor Alonzo’s existing research results. This was an undeniable fact.

When Howard saw that neither Zhou Qingfeng nor Xu Guoqiang said anything, he smiled satisfactorily, “Actually, this problem could be solved easily. We can co-operate with you and conduct cross-licensing of patents. We can publicly admit that your research is well beyond the current level of Professor Alonzo, but you’ll need to let us intervene in your future research. As compensation, we will provide a fund of $100 million for your research.”

$100 million U.S. dollars, the figure was able to leave Xu Guoqiang completely dumbfounded on the spot. He already could not consider the term for $50 million dollars, let alone $100 million dollars. That amount of money was enough to buy his soul.

“No, we refuse to do so,” Zhou Qingfeng replied coldly.

Howard was shocked. He looked at Xu Guoqiang and threw another glance at Zhou Qingfeng before saying, “That’s a very poor choice of words.”

“We never cared about the money.”

“Then do you know the consequences you will be facing?”

“We don’t care.”

“Your research will be completely crushed by us. You should know that you’re only temporarily ahead of us. Our research resources are far beyond yours and we will soon catch up to and surpass you. Your research will then be worthless.”

“Even though you guys are now being sought after, your supporters will immediately abandon you if your performance is no longer satisfying. You’ll also lose the source of your funds, become obscure once again, and even lose all of your reputations. Are you really willing to bear these consequences?”

Howard explained Zhou Qingfeng’s possible outcome at an extreme speed. He stared directly at Zhou Qingfeng and he finally seemed to understand that this young man was actually the one in charge.

“That’s enough. We will not compromise with you.” Zhou Qingfeng thought to himself, There’s no way I’ll let the NTZ project develop till an uncontrollable point. There can only be one superhuman in this world. I refuse mediocrity, for I’m one of a kind!
