A Lover’s Rendezvous (2)

“What are you doing?” Qin Yuan asked softly.

Ruan Qingmu’s face was unreadable and his voice was devoid of emotion. “Can’t you see I’m struggling with a math problem?”

As if in a fit of rage, he added again, “I won’t beg people again. I’ll do it myself. If I can’t do it, I won’t fucking sleep tonight.”

He almost died from an excess of anger just now, feeling furious and wronged.

He had never begged anyone to his death in his previous life. He finally summoned his courage with great difficulty to do so once in this life, but he wasn’t given face. For a moment, he felt hurt in both his pride and heart.

Qin Yuan looked at him fixedly. His pupils were jet-black.

“I will stay up with you,” he said softly and gently. “But don’t stay here. It’s not good for the eyes. I will take you somewhere with good lighting.”

Not far away, the dorm building was brightly lit.

On an October night, the breeze was light, the moonlight was like water and the first sweet fragrance of the first budding osmanthus blossoms on campus drifted through the flowerbeds under the cultural and sports building.

Qin Yuan pulled Ruan Qingmu and they ran to the school’s cultural and sports building, staggering along the way.

The hand being pulled was faintly sweating and his mind was in a fog for a while. His entire perception seemingly focused on his hand being tightly held by the other person.

Their ten fingers intertwined, palms stuck against each other.

Even if it was a long, long time ago, they had never been so intimate like this before.

***

The school’s cultural and sports building was unusually lively during the day. People would come and go until the afternoon. Many came to attend art class in the atelier, attend music class in the music room, or to borrow sports equipment in the equipment warehouse.

But this place would be quiet and pitch-dark during the night.

Qin Yuan kept pulling Ruan Qingmu to the east side of the cultural and sports building, followed up the stairs to the third floor, and stopped in front of an activity room before slowly releasing his hand.

He pointed his finger at that tightly closed door. “Our student council’s activity room. Nobody will be here at night.”

Ruan Qingmu stood there and was slightly stunned.

Weren’t they going to return to 106?

He glanced at his hand and quickly turned his gaze away.

Looking at Qin Yua’s handsome face, he suddenly didn’t know why he was angry.

What ah – What did this mean?!

Why was this person so calm? Why did he grab when he wanted to and release him when he wanted to? Why did he take it as if these two cold war days had never happened? And why could he act so calmly after a night of giving him the cold shoulder?!

Qin Yuan took out a small set of keys from his bag and opened the activity room’s door at the side.

Pressing the power switch on the wall, the bright lamp lit up. Qin Yuan turned off several controls and only left a row of lights by the desks, shining the whole quiet activity room into half-brightness and half-darkness.

Ruan Qingmu stood at the doorway and sneered. “So secluded, ah. Did you often come to this kind of place for a rendezvous?”

Qin Yuan turned his head and looked at the other’s ice-cold face, suddenly smiling slightly.

Qin Yuan usually had few expressions and his features were cold and sharp. When he smiled gently and softly like this, he was so handsome that it slightly shook people.

“When I just entered junior year, the student council’s president at that time was a senior year student. He and his girlfriend would secretly come here to review books. Both of them were top students.” He softly said, “If other couples go on rendezvouses, theirs is competing to do papers.”

Ruan Qingmu didn’t know how to reply and forced himself to say, “Oh.”

“He and the senior sister have graduated and entered the universities in the same city. They are an example of a super amazing couple.” Qin Yuan’s eyes were gentle. “When he graduated, he invited us, the juniors in the student council, for a meal and secretly told us that the light in this place couldn’t be seen from outside.”

Ruan Qingmu snorted. “How could that be? The curtains can’t block the light, no matter how thick.”

Qin Yuan stood by the window and beckoned at him. “Come here and see for yourself.”

Ruan Qingmu glared at him and wanted to ignore him, but he hesitated before slowly walking over.

The activity room was huge, with long tables arranged in the middle. Some of the student council’s publicity posters and drawing paints decorated the walls and a projector hung from the ceiling. Probably used to shade out the light from the projection environment, the window curtains were thicker than usual and the deep purple velvet fabric draped on the floor.

Qin Yuan pushed open the window and the outside breeze hit them in the faces, carrying the sweet scent of the first blooming osmanthus flowers.

At the same time, a dense shade suddenly appeared before his eyes and blocked the entire window. It was grand and unrestrained.

Ruan Qingmu’s eyes widened, suddenly coming to a realization.

Experimental No. 3 had two famous old trees. One was the hundred-year-old camphor tree on the sports field and the other was this huge acacia tree under the cultural and sports building.

Previous students called the acacia tree the lover’s tree, which was also very old. Growing under the cultural and sports building, the treetop already covered a large area in the vicinity. When you looked out from the windows here, this activity room happened to be blocked by the vast, dense shade.

The acacia tree leaves were a tender light green, which looked particularly gentle during the day. But at night, they were still a rich turquoise color and you could see the stars outside through the dark leaves.

But with the shade of the trees and the curtains, it wasn’t easy to notice the light here.

Qin Yuan turned his head, his handsome features reflecting the moonlight and starlights from outside. “The student council’s president also said he left this whole Feng Shui treasure to us with the hopes that we would each find a person that we would want to bring here.”

Ruan Qingmu quickly glanced at him. His just calmed heartbeat began to speed up again.
