Intimacy.

“… Cross Epegnium… Dander Roads… Xycolite…”

My eyes skim through multiple blue holo-screens flashing in front of me. Pictures and information of enterprise officials, cosmic beasts, and well-known space pirate organizations flash then leave my vision as I continue walking down a steel-plated corridor.

She hadn’t given me much time to prepare, only about five hours of sleep and four hours to look through all the documents. I also needed to secure my belongings as I would be leaving this place permanently, but that was easy since I never had much in the first place.

I stop at an air-latched breach door and place my boots in a white-marked footed area below me. Then, the metal door behind me slams shut, as several blue and red lasers search my body and face.

My only regret was not saying goodbye to Einum or Nanako. But to make sure I interlope in the first hyper-jet cannon, I have to leave before all the other ships take off.

“Clearance Authorized… Provision Code 104-562… On-Duty, Space Patroller Miya… Course for Takeoff… Planet 4056-E, Sector 8”

With a puff of smoke, the set of doors in front of me slide open with a large green thumbs up popping above my head on a black screen. I then take a step forward into the spacious yet narrow enclosure.

To my left was an open window giving a view of galactic blue particles gliding along with the vast deep-black space veil. On the other side was the metal hatch linking to a black Nyro-space pod lingering in the air. Its nyrosteel outer shell arched up into four jet thrusters, with its bottom being shaped into a half-cylinder.

“… Patroller Ma’am!”

I press a button on my white-collar device, causing all of the screens in front of me to flash away one by one, and turn to look at both my sides. Two individuals wearing Federation uniforms stood facing forward while saluting with their hands raised above their heads.

One was a muscular man with green skin and yellow eyes, most likely an Aurathorp from Sector 47; While the other was a humanoid being with black skin and no eyes, but with pupils opening on his neck and back of his head every few seconds.

… I don’t know what he is.

My eyes then turn back to the metal hatch in front of me. I walk over to the front and graze my fingers in between the metal ridges.

“You two are in charge of all transportation through this Extract Combine, correct?” I inquire without turning around.

Both of the officers nodded their heads in unison. “Yes ma’am!”

“Then why aren’t you two loading it for departure? You’re standing around like you’ve got something better to do.”

The green-skinned brute rubbed back the small antennae on top of his head with a nervous glance. “E-Er… Gen-One Major Apelio told us to wait for him to acknowledge your departure.”

I take a deep breath and step in front of him, his eyes still pinned forward. “Major… Major, you say?”

“Y-Yes! We’ll just wait for him and—“

“What did you announce me as when I walked into the room?”

“Erm… Patroller… Ma’am…”

“So why do I, a Patroller, wait for a Major to come and approve my take-off?”

The Aurathorpian blinks twice, trying his best not to look down at me despite his towering figure.

I then look over to the other officer, who straightens his back and shoulders with a gulp.

“Does it make any sense to you?”

“W-well, he is the overarching officer for this terminal so maybe… That’s why… He outranks you… H-Here I mean…”

His lips don’t move, as he speaks to me telepathically. I nod my head and turn around, resting my hands on my hips as I gaze out the window of the terminal.

I throw my leg up in front of me and let it linger for a while, before pivoting on my foot and slashing it into the muscular aurathorp’s inner thigh.

“RAAAAAGH!”

In a hoarse yelp, his leg twists inward with a crisp crack as he falls to the ground, clenching onto his knee as blue tears well up in his eyes. I then grab a hold of the green antennae on top of his head and gaze into his piss-yellow eyes with an insidious grin.

“Now here’s what’s going to happen. You’re growing to crawl over to that pod and prepare it for launch. The Major can approve the repugnant stain on the bottom of my shoes which will be—“

I then turn around, to point at the other officer now taken a few steps back from his post with all of his eyes open on his body.

“—The inside of your head once I stomp you into a black-mesh-pool. Do we have an understanding?”

The pitch-black humanoid nods his head several times with all of the eyes on his body blinking at once. A whimper comes from the green-broad officer below me as he starts to pull himself forward with his arms.

“Clearance Authorized… Provision Code 107-009… On-Duty, Gen-One Major Apelio… Course for Takeoff… Planet 4056-E, Sector 8”

Before I could take a step forward, a puff of smoke is heard from the outside breacher making me turn around with scrunched eyebrows. The door then slides open, with a trio of Ya’valtian officers walking through.

A broad man with a twisted mustache and long locks of colorless hair was accompanied by two female officers at his side. The man then holds up a hand, making the girls back away as he squats down in front of the crippled officer with a smack of his teeth.

“Maj Apelio, sir…” The aurathorpian mutters as he performs another arm-crawl forward.

Apelio turns to look at me with a smile. “And what happened here?”

“I had to give the ensign here a refresher course on how ranks work in the sentinel. Nothing that couldn’t be re-established with a few simple words.” I remark.

The Major snickers and stands up straight, then slams his boot into the wounded officer’s cheek, causing a blue liquid to splatter across the floor in front of him. He then takes a white handkerchief from his uniform pocket, throwing it into the air as it gently falls on the face of the pinned-down ensign.

“Clean yourself up and prepare for launch. I’ll be leaving for my new assignment promptly.” Major Apelio announces.
