Ryn opened the door once they arrived in front of her home. She stepped into the house and turned around, looking at him.

"So."

"So."

"I'll see you later?" she asked, just trying to stop this awkwardness.

"Hmm..." he nodded. Then, he ran his hand over his hair as he sighed.

She watched him with eyes opened. Why was he seemed to be so lost in his words? Why didn't he speak up? He always told her everything in his mind, which made it easier for them to argue because he did not think it through before he said something.

But now, why it seemed like he was afraid to speak?

She c.o.c.ked an eyebrow.

"I promise that I will change," he said finally.

She frowned.

"Love, it will take time for me to change but I hope you can give me... no, give us another chance. I really love you and I would do anything for us to be together. Even if I have to change, I will," he promised.

She blew out a sigh. She did not notice she was holding her breath when he started to speak. But... could he really do it? Could he control his jealousy?

Of course, she was opened to give him another chance, which she has decided earlier but to be told to give him another chance, it took her by surprise.

"Well... I won't force you... well, try not to force you. I want you to not feel pressured to join our small family in marriage. I don't want you to feel forced on the day you're married to me. I will wait until you are ready to be with me," he said hurriedly before he bent down to kiss her forehead gently and went straight to the elevator without any warning, leaving her blinking her eyes in a puzzle.

What was that all about?

She watched his body disappearing into the elevator. Then, she shrugged it off. It was no use in breaking her head thinking about his weird behavior when she could spend the time sleeping.

She needed to prepare her mind and body for the lunch date with Mika later. She locked the door and threw her bag onto the couch. Then, she went into her bedroom to continue her sleep.

*~*~*~*

Ryn's mother was sweeping the floor when she noticed so many vehicles stopped right in front of her house. She stopped her sweeping and walked to the door, curious about the identity of the newcomers.

The first person who got out from the first vehicle was someone unfamiliar to her. She narrowed her eyes, thinking hard.

But she could not remember who the person was. Even the older woman holding a cane walking toward her house was unfamiliar. The curiosity was amplified when from the other vehicles, girls kept coming out holding beautiful boxes on trays.

Okay, now she was interested.

"Catherine's mother? Hello, I am Jeremy's mother," Mrs. Si greeted the confused woman enthusiastically. She even held both Ryn's mother's hands and shook them eagerly.

"Err... hello..." Ryn's mother's replied a bit awkwardly. Nobody told her about their arrival and why did it feel like they were here to propose marriage to her daughter, Ryn?

Although she was in a puzzle with their arrival, she still invited them into the house and watched, with widened eyes as the maids arranging all the boxes neatly. Ryn's mother just watched them with her heart pounding hard. Mrs. Long and her mother-in-law did not speak yet, just watching the maids doing their work with hawk eyes. Nothing could interrupt their plan.

"I'll go make some drinks," unable to hold the awkwardness, Ryn's mother excused herself and went to the kitchen.

"Let us help you," two of the maids got up and made a move to follow the older woman.

"No... no... no... you all just sit down," Ryn's mother's quickly stopped them, feeling more awkward by now. She was trying to escape but these two girls...

"Just let them help you," the dowager said with a thump onto the floor. What was this silly woman thinking about? She should understand the meaning of their coming here. The gifts were such an obvious reason why they came here, and what did this silly woman do? She tried to hide.

Silly. As silly as her daughter-in-law.

With the two helpers, it took them no time to bring the drink. The maids were the ones bringing the drinks while Ryn's mother was following behind speechlessly. She could not win against their persuasion.

"Right, can we start?" Mrs. Long looked at her mother-in-law for the signal. She considered herself as the middle woman in this historical meeting. Finally, the two families were meeting together officially. Ryn's parents never tried once to meet them or to get to know them. The parents only left instruction for Ryn to know where was her boundary during her relationship with both Jeremy and Mika, which Mrs. Long approved of.

She hated when those parents from other children kept trying to get close to them for their own benefits. She hated when the friendship was just a cover for their own advantages.

Poor her son and daughter for having such difficulty finding true friends. Luckily for them, even their loved ones were truly in love with who they were, not whose family they belonged to. And they were close-knit friends.

"You should," the Dowager said as she clutched her cane tightly.

Why was everyone liked to waste time chatting?

Mrs. Long gave a sheepish smile. She reached for the tea for a sip to cover her blush. Then, with a clear of her throat, she started to explain the reason why they came.

Ryn's mother listened with her eyes wide opened. What? What was this? Why wasn't anyone informed her first? And she needed her husband to share this 'burden'.

"Yes, we know that Ryn and Jeremy just started back their relationship and it's still in a fragile state," Mrs. Long said as she tried to ignore the glare from her mother-in-law. It would not hurt to point out the truth.

"Well..." Ryn's mother was speechless. Her eyes darted from the women to the boxes.

"Don't worry. These are gifts we prepared to visit you. It's not for the proposal," Mrs. Long said hurriedly.

"We... Well..."

"Don't worry. We're here to meet you officially. We will come back to bring along Jeremy's information to form the contract," Mrs. Long said.

Ryn's mother could only give a weak smile. This was too much pressure for her!

"I... I need to discuss this first with my husband and daughter," Ryn's mother said. She would not let their presence pressure her to give her only daughter so easily to their family. She wanted Ryn to be happy and this 'marriage' determined Ryn's future.

And why oh why, she cried in her heart, would her daughter fell in love with a wealthy young man? She should find someone from their own class!

However, it was no use crying over spilled milk. Now, the only thing she could do, as Ryn's mother, was to help her daughter find her happiness. If Ryn thought she would feel happy with Jeremy, she would agree to this marriage. If not, she would gather her courage and reject the proposal.

She sent them back to their vehicles after exchanging more words. She did not give her promise to agree with the proposal nor reject it immediately. She told them she needed time to discuss it first with her husband and daughter.

"Don't worry. Take your time discussing this with your family. And do use all the herbs and vegetables we brought," Mrs. Long said after she lowered the window to speak with her future in-laws. She was not worried that Ryn would reject the proposal. Her mother-in-law already checked it with the abbot and both Ryn and Jeremy's life was entwined together for the rest of their life in a happy marriage with a lot of kids. Of course, she admitted, that the road toward that happy and peaceful marriage might not be that easy but she had no doubt both Jeremy and Ryn would work together for the sake of their future. And if it was because of Jeremy, she would hit her son with her mother-in-law's cane for punishment for making such a young and good woman like Ryn unhappy.

Ryn's mother just smiled weakly. She then watched as everyone left. Once she could no longer see them, she let out a heavy sigh.

"I'm going to call her tonight," she decided. She wanted to discuss this first with her husband. And she also needed to tidy up everything especially those ingredients in the boxes. She could not waste any of them!

*~*~*~*

Ryn was dreaming when her phone rang. She frowned, making a mumble under her breath. She did not want to wake up yet!

But the caller insisted for her to answer. The ringing stopped and continued again.... and again... and again...

With a groan, Ryn's hand reached around to find her phone. She could not remember where she put it so it took a little bit of time. Once she found it, she placed it near her right ear and murmured, "Hello?"
