When Juin woke up, the first thing he saw was the blinding light emitted by the long fluorescent lightbulbs on the ceiling. The memories from last night started to return to him, and he wondered how long he was out this time.

"Urgh…" Juin groaned as he tried to cover his eyes from the bright assault. Unfortunately, he was unable to lift his left hand past his chest. After a few tries, he simply gave up and closed his eyes tightly for a while.

His body felt as if it had been broken and put back together, and the feeling was like he had just run 100 miles at one go, extremely exhausted and in seemingly forever kind of pain.

"Your Majesty…" Juin called out weakly, hoping to talk to the demon king.

However, the voice that replied to him was not the usual arrogant one.

"Who is Your Majesty?"

The voice was too deep to be that of a child.

Juin blinked and tried to get his eyes adjusted to the brightness quickly. After a while, he saw the person, who was sitting next to his bed with a Harvard Review magazine in hand.

He was not someone Juin expected to see, so for a second, Juin thought that he was hallucinating. "Mr… Thompson? What-What happened? Why are you here? Is Max ok?"

"Calm down, and she's fine. You are the one who is not ok. You fainted at the restaurant… Someone called the school, and the school called Warlock… Who called Mrs. Martin... And thus, here I am…" Mr. Thompson sighed as he shook his head. He placed the magazine back on the rack before walking and standing next to Juin's hospital bed.

"But…" Juin wanted to ask if he had seen Warlock, but he decided that it was not worth the effort. In the end, he merely said in a soft voice, "I'm sorry…"

"I have heard of what happened… You fainted for almost 3 whole days… The doctors couldn't find anything wrong with you, other than your injuries, and they thought that you were in shock and that your body shut down..." Mr. Thompson gave him a review of what had happened during the time he was out.

Mr. Thompson had actually arrived a few hours earlier, to replace his baby daughter who refused to leave Juin alone. When they arrived upon receiving the news from Warlock, Juin was in a very bad state.

Mrs. Martin, who arrived at the hospital with Wesley, Max, and Mr. Thompson, fainted on the spot, and when she woke up, she started blaming herself for letting Juin out of her sight before talking about the return spirits and stuff. Mr. Thompson had to send her and Wesley back before she turned hysterical.

Since then, Max, Wesley, and Mr. Thompson took turns taking care of the unconscious and badly wounded Juin. Mr. Thompson even took a couple of days off, but that was only as a favor for Warlock, who was afraid that someone might attack Juin when he was out.

Thankfully, so far, no one came for him… yet. And Mr. Thompson told Mrs. Martin, Wesley, and Max to say that Juin went away for a few days. All he had to say was that whoever did that to Juin might come after him again, which was true, and everyone stopped questioning him.

"Three whole days…" Juin mumbled before groaning in pain as he clutched his ribs, which were wrapped in bandages. If he had the energy, he would have bolted upright now.

Seeing him struggling on the bed, Mr. Thompson went over to help Juin into a sitting position as he said, "That kid… He told me everything."

Juin glanced around the room and saw the "kid" Mr. Thompson was talking about. The kid was sleeping on the couch in a weird position, with his knees folded under his buttocks, like in kneeling position, and his hands were splayed wide open as his face rested on the back of them… sort of like those babies in those professionally taken baby photos.

The tails that Juin saw previously were gone, and he could only pray that the kid managed to hide them before they were seen by anyone else.

"I thought he's a dream… or something conjured up by a spell," Juin admitted in a soft voice as he looked at the sleeping Zheng, whose butt wriggled every now and then. "He came out of nowhere…"

"He's a beast…" Mr. Thompson said as he pulled a chair closer to Juin's bed and sat down.

"A beast?" Juin blinked in confusion. "I heard Taka mention something about Spirit Beast… Is Zheng one?"

"So, the Nakamura Family has made their moves…" Mr. Thompson shook his head and sighed. "No… Not yet, at least. There's a process that one has to do to turn a beast into a spirit beast… and it's not a pleasant process."

He had a feeling that the people from the Nakamura Family would come very often now.

Looking at Zheng, Mr. Thompson said, "That kid is still a baby. A Zheng, actually."

When Warlock told Mr. Thompson that he sent someone to protect Juin, he did not expect the man to send such a powerful mythological creature. That was a Zheng! A mythological beast that was coveted by everyone!

By killing a Zheng, especially a sentient one, and absorbing its essence, Warlock could gain another level in strength and increase his soul power reserve, not to mention other benefits as well.

And to think that Warlock gave it up for Juin. With a sigh, Mr. Thompson was ashamed that, for a short while, he was actually thinking of convincing the little one to join him and protect his family.

But when he thought about how he was sent by Warlock, Mr. Thompson had a feeling that there was a reason behind; reason that he might not know yet.
