185: The Lost Territory, Qinghai

During the period of McRaven Babot’s rest, Zhuang Yao meticulously organized the memories he had gained from Cong Xia's perspective. Through McRaven's eyes, Cong Xia glimpsed important information. Apart from the Dragonblood individuals, there were also the puppet jades in the possession of the U.S. government.

He had seen as many as six, far surpassing the three claimed by the U.S. government. The American utilization of puppet jades was enlightening. They utilized these puppet jades as energy hubs for large-scale machinery, using them to transform soil and seeds. There were numerous other applications as well. In McRaven's memories, most of the uses of the puppet jades were known to them. However, there were a few innovations that could help expand their applications.

"McRaven, what is he like in battle?"

"Quite intriguing. He could be covered in metal armor all over his body, manipulate any metal, and even generate metal. The precondition is that the metal element exists within the human body, such as iron, copper..."

Zhuang Yao raised his hand, "You can skip the examples. I can remember all the elements that compose a human without you telling me what metals he can generate."

Cong Xia ruffled his hair, "You little rascal."

Liu Fengyu chimed in, "When he advances, he will become elementalized, turning into a true metal man. His alias shouldn't be 'Iron Man'; 'Transformer Robot' suits him better."

Deng Xiao laughed, "Can he turn into a hot iron for ironing clothes? Or a metal rooster? Hahaha."

Cong Xia also laughed, "In history, many emperors wanted to have a solid gold statue made for themselves. McRaven's would undoubtedly be the most perfect one. Unfortunately, gold isn't valuable now; otherwise, he would become the world's richest person."

"Metals have value at any time." Zhuang Yao opened his computer, his fingers tapping in English with a rhythmic sound. "Next time we meet, I'll have him synthesize some metals for me. It's much more convenient than sending people to search."

"For what purpose?"

"It has broad applications. The modification of your weapons, explosives, toxins – he's undoubtedly quite accustomed to manufacturing these things for his government."

Deng Xiao asked, "Little Zhuang Yao, before we set off for Qinghai, can my Gatling gun be modified into an infinite energy weapon? It's not that I'm complaining about the weight of the ammunition box; it's just carrying it around is too troublesome."

"Let's do our best." Zhuang Yao glanced at Cong Xia, "How's your research on armor progressing?"

"Smoothly."

"Excellent. I'll probably need another one or two months to perfect the weapons, to organize everything you comprehended from the ancient jades during those six days of advancement. We need to study them one by one."

"Alright." Cong Xia stretched his muscles, "I'm full now. My second uncle and Colonel Tang should be ready as well. Let's go."

Cheng Tianbi stood up, "Let's go."

The group left the dining hall and headed towards the experimental area.

Cong Zhenzhong and Tang Tingzhi were standing at the entrance of the laboratory, engaged in conversation.

Cong Xia walked over, patted Cong Zhenzhong's shoulder, and smiled, "Second Uncle, no need to be nervous."

Cong Zhenzhong chuckled, "Why would I be?"

Zhuang Yao crossed his arms, observing them, "I'm looking forward to you sharing the insights you've gained with me. However, remember that you must follow Cheng Tianbi's instructions. Both of you cannot reach the critical points simultaneously, or Cong Xia might not be able to handle it."

Tang Tingzhi said, "Rest assured. We are about to merge the thought results of three individuals, and it will certainly be more comprehensive than what Zhuang Yu obtained."

Al caressed his waist, kissed his hair, "Safety comes first, you understand?"

Tang Tingzhi turned his head and smiled at him, "Understood."

Al held his chin, gently kissing his lips, his slender fingers stroking his hair.

Although the surrounding scientists were accustomed to such scenes, they still felt somewhat uneasy in the face of such explicit displays of affection and turned their heads one by one.

However, the two of them were entirely unabashed. After the kiss, Al smiled faintly, and Tang Tingzhi's expression remained unchanged. He said, "Let's go, inside."

Once Cong Zhenzhong and Tang Tingzhi entered the laboratory, the door closed. This time, no one accompanied them inside. Cheng Tianbi remained their guide, but he directed them through the intercom. Because two evolved brain domain individuals advancing simultaneously would impose a significant mental burden on those near them, even Cheng Tianbi would struggle if he spent more than twenty hours inside.

Concerned about Cong Zhenzhong's well-being, Cong Xia stayed in the control room with Cheng Tianbi, watching them intently.

A day passed quickly. Following Cheng Tianbi's instructions, Cong Zhenzhong needed to speed up and break through the second stage first. When Cong Xia sensed the surge of energy from Cong Zhenzhong, he entered the laboratory. He exerted immense willpower to control his body because he felt something stimulating his brain, contending for control over his body. The influence of the two evolved brain domain individuals was truly terrifying. They weren't even targeting him, yet energy filled the room, causing everyone to exit the laboratory and stay more than twenty meters away. No one could remain in this room for long; they might very well go mad.

Cong Xia sat down next to Cong Zhenzhong and whispered, "Second Uncle, your energy is too strong. I'm already feeling dizzy and nauseous. You must advance in the next ten minutes in sync with me. Regardless of how much you want to continue pondering, you have to follow my lead, alright?"

Cong Zhenzhong nodded.

Cong Xia closed his eyes and infused energy into Cong Zhenzhong's body. Like Zhuang Yu and Zhuang Yao, Cong Zhenzhong's brain was filled with knowledge and memories. He saw numerous familiar scenes: his parents, grandparents, his ancestral home, and his research accomplishments. Many things. Cong Xia had no intention of probing into his second uncle's mind; he focused all his energy on the advancement.

His uncle wasn’t as stubborn as Zhuang Yao, and only around 70% of Cong Zhenzhong's total energy was made up of unsafe Cambrian energy. He actively cooperated with Cong Xia. Through their joint efforts, the overwhelming water energy that was causing brain discomfort receded back into his energy core. Cong Zhenzhong successfully advanced.

Cong Xia supported Cong Zhenzhong's weakened body and, with the help of the guards, carried him out. Cong Xia followed suit. He needed to catch his breath.

Al asked, "How much longer will he need?"

"Maybe two or three hours. It won't be too long." Cong Xia took a breath, feeling somewhat fatigued. Since his advancement, his energy had increased by at least two-fold. In the past, he wouldn't have been able to consecutively assist two people in their advancements within just a few hours. But for his current self, it wasn't much of a challenge.

Not long after, Tang Tingzhi also reached a critical point. Cong Xia infused energy into his body, causing him to browse through some of Tang Tingzhi's memories. To some extent, Tang Tingzhi's fate was similar to Zhuang Yu's. Both were "created," though with differences: Zhuang Yu was a clone of Zhuang Yu, while Tang Tingzhi was born from the "Genius Project," created by combining sperm and egg cells carrying genes for super high intelligence.

From Tang Tingzhi's memories, Cong Xia even saw events from several years ago involving Shen Changze, Shan Ming, and Al. Although it was only a small portion, it seemed like quite a legendary experience. He also saw the challenges the Dragonblood individuals faced during the early days of the apocalypse. Their journey of over two thousand kilometers to reach Beijing hadn't been easy.

After Tang Tingzhi successfully advanced, Cong Xia was nearly too tired to stand.

Al carried the unconscious Tang Tingzhi away, and Cheng Tianbi also assisted Cong Xia out.

Zhuang Yao said, "Feels good to peek into others' memories, doesn't it?"

Cong Xia panted, "I didn't intentionally want to see."

"But you were still curious. People have curiosity, especially about others' secrets. If I told you that I could continue evolving and also peek into your memories, would you be afraid?"

Cheng Tianbi frowned, "Really?"

"Just a speculation. For instance, I could intercept a small segment of your brainwaves. I wouldn't need to see your expression or hear your tone. I could sense your current emotions. Evolved brain domain individuals not only possess exceptional intelligence but also have unique control and analytical functions over the brain. When I break through to the third stage, I will be able to fully control a person, even if it's just for a very short time. It can change a lot of things."

Cong Xia laughed, "So, does that mean evolved brain domain individuals are invincible only when they've reached the highest stage of evolution?"

"Under certain conditions, well, at least. The less developed the brain is and the weaker the willpower of the creature, the easier it is for us to control them."

Deng Xiao curiously asked, "So, can you control Abu then?"

"I can, but it's not necessary. I won't do it; it would damage its brain." Zhuang Yao looked at him, "I wouldn't want to make Abu as dumb as you."

Deng Xiao exclaimed, "Abu has the intelligence of a five or six-year-old child. Don't go too far with your teasing."

"Even if you advanced to the seventh stage, your intelligence wouldn't change. However, Abu will keep getting smarter until one day, it surpasses you." Zhuang Yao grinned, "Feeling a bit threatened now?"

Deng Xiao rolled his eyes and whispered, "I don't believe you."

"I'll prove it to you sooner or later."

Zhuang Yao said, "Cong Xia, you should go rest. The official experiment with Zhou Fenglan and McRaven is scheduled for tomorrow. We all need to be there. All the natural force evolved individuals in the city have been invited."

"Alright... Any news about Wu Yu these days?"

"Not yet."

"Do you think he'll come with us to Qinghai?"

"He will."

"You're so sure?"

"I'm about 80% sure, but we still need to make some effort." Zhuang Yao wore a sly smile.

The next afternoon, the participants and observers gathered at the Science Academy, led by the institute's security personnel, and made their way to the suburban testing site.

Given the destruction caused by Yao Qianjiang and Wu Yu during their previous experiment, they put considerable thought into selecting an appropriate and discreet testing site. They had sent people ahead to clean the area to ensure there were no residents nearby and that no one would witness their actions.

Zhou Fenglan and Zhuang Yu appeared at the testing site, riding a vividly lifelike five-meter-tall wolf. When Abu approached the wolf, it emitted a warning growl.

Abu's fur stood on end, baring its teeth as it let out a low growl from its throat.

Zhuang Yao patted its ear, "Don't be scared, calm down."

The wolf continued to taunt Abu persistently, even cautiously taking small steps towards Abu. Its massive body, gleaming green eyes, sharp exposed teeth, and crimson tongue sent shivers down one's spine.

Abu felt a bit uneasy. Although its size exceeded that of the wolf, its blood ran with the tamed essence of a domestic cat, whereas this wolf was a true wild beast.

Zhou Fenglan watched them with interest, showing no intention to intervene. Instead, he loudly remarked, "Sorry about this. This little one is a genuine wolf, not tamed by humans. Sometimes it doesn't behave well. You better keep your little cat away, I won't be responsible if it gets hurt."

Abu let out a fierce growl, though its voice quivered slightly.

Suddenly, a thunderous roar of a lion echoed through the sky, causing everyone present to tremble. A brownish shadow swiftly dashed forward, positioning itself like lightning between Abu and the wolf.

As everyone focused their gaze, Li Dao’ai, the leader of Liudao Huangquan sat on a large lion.

The lion glared fiercely at the wolf, which bared its teeth. While its expression remained ferocious, its steps involuntarily retreated, finally turning its head under the intense gaze of the lion.

Zhou Fenglan snorted coldly and also turned away.

Cong Xia exclaimed, "Huo Bai?"

Huo Bai turned his head around, "It's really unbearable to watch. Look, which influential figure would sit atop a cat?"

Cong Xia took a glance. Lion, wolf, white falcon – even the enemies encountered before, their mounts were usually impressive. But riding a cat? There wasn't really anyone. However, it didn't matter. None of them were as beautiful as Abu.

Huo Bai walked to Abu's side and patted its chest with a paw, "Are you still scared of me?"

Abu lowered its head and licked the top of Huo Bai's head, then let out a "meow," sounding somewhat aggrieved.

Deng Xiaoxiao objected, "What's wrong with cats? Abu is very capable."

"A cat is just a cat, never a lion. Even if it's larger than any mutated creature I've seen, its courage is lacking."

"Abu isn't lacking in courage."

"It depends on the situation. It's afraid of wild beasts, am I wrong?"

Abu lowered its head and lay on the ground, its demeanor quite downcast.

Cheng Tianbi said, "Though Abu is afraid of wolves, it would still fight them, as long as it's for its owner."

Huo Bai chuckled, "I do believe that."

Li Dao’ai hopped down from Huo Bai, "At the last gathering, we didn't have much time to talk. How have you all been lately?"

"Very well."

Li Dao’ai smiled, "I thought so. Everyone has advanced, high spirits, and is in great condition."

Zhuang Yao looked at Zhou Fenglan and McRaven who were conversing, "Today it's Zhou Fenglan's turn to have high spirits and be in great condition."

"With that kind of power, even if it's temporary, it's truly tempting. Unfortunately, I don't even know where my derivative element evolved humans are, whether they exist or not," Li Daoai looked down at Zhuang Yao, "Has the list for Qinghai been decided? Am I on it?"

Zhuang Yao also looked at him, "Do you want to go?"

"Of course. Based on your speculation, Qinghai should have at least one natural power evolved human, maybe related to earth energy. For the sake of this possibility, I want to go to Qinghai and see."

"If you're going as well, there'll be only Zhou Fenglan left in Beijing City. That's not possible. Either we take Zhou Fenglan with us, or we leave at least one natural power evolved human to counter him. In fact, neither option is perfect, but we can't risk taking all the natural power evolved humans into Qinghai, because we might not be able to get any of them out. So, Officer Li, you're most likely going to be the one staying behind."

Li Dao’ai nodded, "What a pity. I really wanted to go."

"If we're lucky enough to encounter a natural power-evolved human with earth energy in Qinghai, we'll definitely find a way for you to meet."

Li Daoai smiled, "Assuming you make it out alive."

"Assuming we make it out alive."

Cheng Tianbi looked towards the nearby area, "It's starting."

Zhou Fenglan and McRaven simultaneously walked towards the open space in the distance.

This was an abandoned county town, a year ago, it had driven away a large number of residents due to a rodent infestation. It was Li Daoai who had intervened, causing the ground to sink and destroying over sixty rat nests, to quell the spread of the infestation. Now, it had become a dead town, with only dilapidated houses and wildly growing weeds.

Zhuang Yao's eyes gleamed as he looked at the two, "Guess what's going to happen."

"It's hard to imagine the fusion of lightning and metal..."

Cong Xia said, "High temperature? Electromagnetic field?"

Zhuang Yao replied, "It's possible that both are involved."

A researcher shouted through a loudspeaker, "Everyone, all pets, retreat."

Dozens of people stepped back.

Zhou Fenglan and McRaven exchanged glances.

McRaven smiled, "We must control it well, not hurt anyone."

Zhou Fenglan muttered, "Who can understand your bird language?"

McRaven extended his hand and spoke in Chinese, "Please, Mr. Zhou."

Zhou Fenglan took a deep breath and shook McRaven's hand.

Instantly, a wave of energy surged, a lightning bolt descended from the sky, harshly connecting between the two, and their clothes were instantly turned to ashes. A small electromagnetic ball appeared on their connected palms, emitting crackling sounds. Golden lightning was densely scattered on the electromagnetic ball, making it look like it was about to burst open. However, the electromagnetic ball kept expanding, countless metallic fragments were drawn into it, crazily rotating inside the electromagnetic ball.

Soon, the electromagnetic ball enveloped the bodies of the two, more and more metal being absorbed. Initially, it was just scraps of metal on the ground, then abandoned cars, bicycles, and trash cans were pulled in. Finally, even the window edges and cutlery from the sides of the street detached from their places and flew into the electromagnetic ball. The electromagnetic ball crazily grew larger, eventually becoming an electromagnetic storm with a diameter exceeding five meters. Like a tornado, it greedily absorbed the surrounding metal. Rebars inside buildings were twisted by the storm, and under its pull, the rebars were pulled out of the building, causing concrete structures to shatter!

The crowd watched this scene of devastation in shock. Until someone reacted, Cong Zhenzhong grabbed the loudspeaker and shouted, "Throw it away! Quickly!"

As he spoke, Xu Ying's car, more than a hundred meters away, lifted off the ground and was about to be thrown towards the electromagnetic storm.

A mutant suddenly grabbed the car's bumper, and a willow tree mutant extended hundreds of branches to ensnare the car. However, the electromagnetic storm's suction grew stronger. All the metal that was swept in was instantly torn into pieces.

Zhuang Yu also roared, "Zhou Fenglan! Throw it away! You're about to run out of energy, throw it away!"

As the crowd retreated, they watched in terror as the electromagnetic storm, which had grown to a diameter of eight meters, spun countless metal fragments like a vortex within it. If this thing were to come their way, how many people could escape?

With a loud roar, Zhou Fenglan and McRaven forcefully hurled the terrifying electromagnetic storm into the distance. It was like an electromagnetic bomb, and it struck a tall twenty-story building in the distance with great force. The electromagnetic storm disintegrated, and even though the term "explosion" was more fitting for its destructiveness, it disintegrated with a deafening blast. It was as if tons of fireworks had burst open overhead. The metal swept into it was propelled in all directions, flying far and wide.

Cheng Tianbi and Li Dao’ai each constructed a wind wall and an earth wall, blocking the metal fragments behind the protective barriers. However, some small fragments managed to fly in, but they didn't cause any harm.

But the people were still shaken. Especially those who hadn't witnessed the destructive power of Yao Qianjiang and Wu Yu before were greatly astonished by this terrifying force.

Zhou Fenglan and McRaven fell naked to the ground. Clearly, they hadn't been able to control this power well. However, this could also be understood. Ice and water were gentle in nature and lacked such instantaneous explosive power. The combination of lightning and metal was too astonishing, its momentum too overwhelming. It was likely that Zhou Fenglan and McRaven themselves were taken aback by the energy, causing it to almost slip out of their control.

The two were carried back. Despite being at the center of the electromagnetic storm just now, they were unscathed. They had only exhausted their energy, needing at least three days to recover.

Zhuang Yu looked at Zhou Fenglan with a pleased expression, then smiled at Xu Yingyuan, "Commander, I hope I haven't disappointed you."

Xu Yingyuan nodded. Although he didn't show a smile on his face, his eyes gleamed, "Very good, very good."

Several Americans surrounded McRaven, conducting a thorough physical examination on him. They looked quite nervous; he was their country's only natural power evolved human, their hero and legend. There was no room for even the slightest error.

Tang Tingzhi reassured them, "It's okay, he's just tired. A few days of rest will do."

Cheng Tianbi's expression was solemn as he spoke to Cong Zhenzhong, "Is this the last time Zhou Fenglan and McRaven will see each other?"

"In China, yes. But..." Cong Zhenzhong glanced at Zhuang Yu, "If they want to go to the United States, we don't have the means to stop them."

Zhuang Yao said, "We can't stop them, but we have more natural force evolved humans in our control. The U.S. government isn't foolish. However, we also have a significant weakness."

Cong Xia nodded, "Wu Yu is unwilling to come to Beijing from Chongqing, and the natural power evolved humans with derivative elements of fire and earth have yet to appear. While we hold so many natural power evolved humans, we don't have anyone who can form an immediate cooperation. But they are different. Once they form an alliance... they will possess the strongest force we've seen so far. Therefore, if McRaven forms an alliance with them, we'll be back to a situation of balanced power."

"Provided that McRaven truly allies with them. I won't allow that to happen." Zhuang Yao looked at Zhuang Yu, who flashed him a chilling smile.
