After seeing Mia and Merylou off, Souya finished a quick breakfast and left the adventurer’s inn.

It was a refreshing morning. I was in the mood to take a leisurely stroll around the city and enjoy my vacation, but I had to make the necessary preparations for my next request.

First, I need to procure a weapon to replace the saber that was broken by the Silver Demon. Since Souya was the only one in their party who could handle melee combat without fear, he had to give top priority to getting new melee weapons.

I won’t last if I use magic on weak monsters, and I’m not sure I can fight with the short dagger I borrowed from a thief as my primary weapon. I can fight without a weapon, but it would be suicide to try to fight a monster with tremendous muscle strength, let alone a person.

Secondly, I had to secure the magic stone that would be the triggering device for the magic. The magic stone, which is the triggering device, is used in the form of a magician’s wand that is fitted into the magician’s staff. This is the reason why it was necessary to use a disposable magic stone. It seemed to me that it would be better to have at least one of these in case I had to face a Silver Demon-class monster in the future.

However, the Magician’s Guild, which is closed to outsiders, handles the magician’s staff and the magic stones for the triggering device. Souya, who doesn’t have anyone from the Magician Guild as a mentor, has no connection to them at all.

(Maybe I should have asked Rebecca-kun to get me a magician’s staff while she was here, but …… she was in such a state).

Souya sighed, remembering Rebecca, the female magician who had lost her childhood friend Randy and had fallen ill. Rebecca and Thomas, who left Illstadt yesterday, are probably still on their way to their home village. I wonder how long it would take for her emotional wounds to heal.

Thinking vaguely about this, I put the magic stone aside for the moment and decided to go to the weapon shop, a popular place for adventurers.

“Welcome.”

A middle-aged man with a beard opened the door and greeted Souya as he entered the store. It was probably the master of the weapon shop.

“I’ve never seen your face before. What kind of weapons are you looking for? …… At least it doesn’t look like a big weapon.”

The Master Weaponsmith said as he looked at Souya’s lightly-dressed appearance.

“It’s nice to meet you. I’d like to use a one-handed sword. Even though I look like this, I’m a magic warrior who deals with magic.”

“A magic warrior …… Hm? Don’t tell me, are you that Souya-san, who is dressed in dark clothes from the rumor? The one called a Demon Slayer.”

The rumor of Souya had spread to the master of the weapons shop. It’s not surprising, since adventurers come and go, I’m sure this is how the rumors spread.

“Oh, you knew about it? As you say, I’m Souya.”

“Oh …… Souya-san, can I have your autograph? I’ll give you a discount on that. You said one-handed sword. How about our best-selling broadsword?”

The master of the weapon shop took out a piece of colored paper from the counter drawer and smiled. Souya smiled, and when he dipped the quill in ink and gave an unfamiliar sign, he picked up the broad sword recommended by the owner of the weapon shop.

“Hmm …… Fifteen gold coins, huh. The blade seems to be well made. It’s not bad looking either.”

The double-edged broadsword was slightly longer than the broken saber, but it looked perfect for one-handed handling. The advantage of this double-edged blade is that even if one of the blades spills out and becomes bad, you can return it to keep it sharp.

“It’s the most popular one-handed weapon among swordsmen. It is widely used by beginners and intermediate players alike. Since It’s called a broad sword.”

Souya ignored the Dad gag muttered by the master of the weapon shop and carefully examined the broadsword in his hand. As far as I can see, the quality is on par with the standards. It will be of some use. In the first place, it’s very unlikely that you’ll find any inferior products mixed in with the new ones, let alone used ones, in a store that caters to adventurers.

“It’s not that bad …… I think I prefer the single-edged ones with the peak. Do you have any sabers?”

""

“We don’t carry Western-style sabers. …… What kind of sword did you use?”

Souya took the broken sheath of the saber out of the dimension box and showed it to the owner of the weapon shop.

“Woah …… Souya-san, this is the military equipment of the Knights of the Royal City. Look, there’s a small engraving here. Where did you get this stuff? It’s not for sale.”

“I confiscated the items the thief was using …… I see, so that’s how it is. I guess we shouldn’t make too big a deal of it.”

I can only imagine how a knight’s saber ended up in the hands of a thief on the meadow, but it seemed best to give up on trying to procure the same thing.

As it was a military item of the Knights, there might have been a possibility that it would have caused some trouble later on if I had continued to use it. You can say that it was a good thing that it was discarded.

“Can I get a weapon of better quality than the standard one? It’ll be perfect if it’s as good as this saber.”

“Hmm …… The best weapons in Ilstadt are made by the Dwarf blacksmith, Doga Grundy.”

When Souya heard the name, he looked surprised.

“Doga Grandi. Does he have a workshop in Ilstadt?”

Souya couldn’t help but ask the owner of the weapon shop. This is the name of the dwarf blacksmith that had taken care of him twenty years ago.

“Ah. The blacksmith, Doga, is probably the most famous. But he doesn’t make weapons for everyone. He used to sell them to us, but now he only makes custom orders because it might be hard on his body.”

“I see …… I’d love to use his weapon, though.”

Souya was thinking of the Dwarf Doga. He was a stubborn man and a heavy drinker, but he was a skilled blacksmith, and I remember that he had given me some weapons. I wondered how he came to take root in Ilstadt.

“You’ll need an introduction letter from the Adventurers’ Guild. I guess that means no one but the best will be allowed. But if it’s Souya-san, the demon slayer, it might be okay.”

“So, I’ll go to the Adventurer’s Guild and ask if I can get an introduction letter …… Master. I apologize, even though you had to go through the trouble recommending this.”

He was kind enough to give me a few pointers, but it looked like I wasn’t going to be able to purchase a one-handed sword from this store. Souya apologized to the owner of the weapon shop.

“No, no, no. I thought that if it’s Souya-san, the demon slayer, you have to use a better weapon. We’re a store where beginners and intermediates come and go.”

The owner of the weapon shop did not seem particularly offended and told Souya with a satisfied expression.

“But let me make one recommendation. It seems that Souya-san uses magic to store his belongings, but how about this? It’s just the thing to keep in your clothes. Of course, it’s not something you can use to slay monsters.”

The master of the weapon shop took out a small metal arrow from a drawer and handed it to Souya.

“This is a …… hand-thrown darts, huh. It may be suitable for quick throwing.”

Unlike magic, which requires chanting, and the bow and arrow, which requires pulling, hand-thrown darts require fewer movements to shoot. If it were only about rapid fire, it would be even better than the daggers used for throwing and striking. There may be a time in the future when it will be used against people.

“It doesn’t have much killing power. It’s just a toy to the casual observer, but it depends on how you use it. The good thing about it is that it’s lightweight and not bulky. You can even throw them together.”

“Master. I’ll take half a dozen. It might not a bad idea to keep them inside my suit.”

As a result of the negotiations, Souya paid eight silver coins and purchased six hand-thrown darts. The original price was twelve pieces of silver, so four pieces of silver would be the discount for the signature.

“Thanks again …… It would be a bit of a scam if I didn’t let Souya-san buy anything and just display his autograph in the store. I can now proudly display it in my home.”

The master of the weapon shop said happily as he hung the sign on the wall. He is a man with a strong business spirit, and yet he is disciplined in a strange way. Souya was slightly impressed by this attitude.
