Chapter 103

I stare anxiously at the sea of green approaching. The moment they enter the turret's range, the barrage of arrows launches into the sky, raining hell on the goblins.

"GRAH!!"

Goblins hit by the arrows fall and roll on the sand. Their comrades ignore the fallen and continue advancing.

------------------

Killed 228 goblins

+228 coins

------------------

Each kill of goblins should grant 1 coin for everyone. In total, we can have 1 million coins this round. It won't be enough.

I focus mana on my eyes to see the goblins. They are poorly equipped with only a rusty dagger and shoulder plate, most likely scouts.

We have 2 marksmen, one mage, and seven close-combat fighters including me.

The three ranged member stays behind the barriers to clear off any goblins that got past. Four warriors stay beyond the barriers and kill any goblins that come and the remaining three advance into the horde. I am the latter.

Together with Audrey, using a gauntlet, and another officer, we charge at the horde of monsters.

We pull our weapons back, unleashing our mana aura that engulfs the swords and gauntlet.

Three tiny humans leap at the fierce rushing tsunami.

With all our might, we throw our first attack at the green sea.

*BOOOOOOOM!!!*

Each of the three of us manages to clear a satisfying portion of goblins and green bodies flies into the sky.

I grip my sword tightly, step forward, and throw another sweep, shredding green meat like tofu. Each slash produces a crescent energy shockwave for further decimation.

------------------

Piercing Slash(lvl 4)

Imbues a thrust attack into every slash through mana.

Uses 1000 mana for each strike.

------------------

This is one of my class' skills. Every slash creates a thrust, dealing double damage and pushing the enemies back.

Patches after patches of green goblins eject back from each of Audrey's punches and collide with other goblins. The third officer skillfully uses minimal energy to cut through each goblin.

Yet, the firepower is not enough. Many got past the first lineup.

The four officers behind spring into action, doing their part to clear as many as possible.

From the sky, big pillars of thunder clash and fry goblins. I make use of the electricity and absorb it into my sword, reversing the current and electrocuting goblins. Each slash sparks a massive discharge that spreads from body to body.

A beam of laser shoots zaps across the battlefield. Many orbs appear in the sky and rain. Those are Melissa's attacks.

Nevertheless, the neverending horde of goblins seems manageable thus far. Hack and slash and hack and slash are the only thing we need to do. Each goblin is weak. A slash through a goblin at my level feels like cutting tofu and it's satisfying to boot.

At least until...

*BOOOOOOOOOM!*

!?

The explosion came from the fortress?

I glance back to see a large hole in the first barrier.

The barrier at level one is a simple wooden wall with spikes.

The formation of the current goblins is to create a distraction by sacrificing goblins. In the middle of the horde, a line of two hundred and fifty goblins riding wolves, Goblin Calvalries, rushes through the wall of green meat and charges for the main base instead.

I've set the turrets to attack the closest enemy and two hundred turrets should not have a problem shredding the chivalries. As expected, the low level of the turret causes its arrow to fall behind.

I circulate mana around my neck.

"AUDREY! FALL BACK AND SUPPORT THR BACKLINES!" My voice roars across the battlefield, overwhelming the battle cry of many.

Audrey nods and jumps back.

"Kagh..." my throat hurts.

I need to take care of my and Audrey's portion of goblins. It's not a time for me to save my stats.

------------------

Mana gathers and enters my body.

A large aura blade extends from my sword. One sweep across the field stacks a mountain of corpses.

I tighten my grip on the weapon and pull it back. With one step forward, I leap and cut another batch.

However, barely any died on my second attempt.

??

A small magic force field protects the goblins. I can see a goblin in the middle of green wearing a blue robe and holding a wooden staff.

...

Looks like most of the goblin cavalries are taken care of. The only threat remains from that mage.

With my remaining strength, I leap at the mage and slam a slash down.

*CHING!*

My sword simply grazes the hard force field barrier and a rebound momentum throws my body back into the air.

I flip my body and leap off a platform of mana back to the mage, attempting another attack with my sword up. The mage goblin does the same trick and pulls up the barrier. Yet, it was a feint and I instead swoop on the mage goblin from behind.

?!

One thrust and the head splits open like a watermelon, parts of its brain and blood splatter on my face.

I wipe my face with my coat and continue slashing the remnants.

Twenty minutes passed and we finally clear the wave. It might seem short but it felt forever. The sea of goblin corpses dyes the sand red and a pungent foul rot lingers in the air.

I grasp for air as I stare at the battlefield before me. My entire body dyed red once again. Arms trembling and a painful chest, I don't bother to sweep the chunks of organs off my body.

Back in the fortress, the first and second barrier was broken through but none managed to get to the gate.

"Huff huff huff..."

In this silent victory, there is no jubilation or relief, only panting and fear.

This is the first wave and we experienced the difficulty and exhaustion to fend off hordes of monsters. What about the upcoming waves?

Melissa drops to the floor with her gun still resting on the barrier. Her hands have signs of calluses.

The other officers are no different, resting soullessly against the wall and floor.

*Ting!* I drop my sword. It hurts to move my leg. My eyes roll up and I fall to the ground.

...

Six hours...fuck.

I couldn't stay awake and falls asleep. I did too much mana circulation.
