Chapter 138

As Rena, the player had limited contact with Prince Armin. Thus my little knowledge about his complex character.

If I am being honest, I am intrigued. I want to know more about Armin.

Still...there's been an annoying gaze spying on us from the start.

I immediately glare at the fluctuating mana, scaring the spying eyes away with my aura.

...

Armin sighs. "What are you doing?"

"That's what I should be asking."

...

"Just do what you are tasked to do. Don't raise any suspicions."

Suspicions...?

"Why? Because of The Order?"

Armin stares down. "So you know about them...Just go."

I walk closer to Armin. "Why are you doing this? Are you not on their side?"

Armin snickers. "Does it look like that? I won't deny that. Go."

Seeing how insistent Armin is, I sigh and nod.

Armin hands me a token. "I advise investigating Clamore first. Take this and refer to a royal magician, they will take you to a certain location in Clamore as fast as possible."

=======================================

"Huff huff..." An old wrinkled bald man grasps his chest leaning against the wall. Wearing a black robe and a hunched back, he is the last person to be wary of. However, for a short moment, his eyes turn red and his pupil shrinks into an oval shape.

Magic was cast on his head to hide two circular scars on the forehead.

It is a demon.

"That mere inferior dares..." the old man grumbles. "I need to report this to the demonic cult. Armin has betrayed us."

In a damp dark room filled with cabinets and chairs, the demon attempts to scour around for a communication orb just to realise its disappearance.

"D-Damn it. Where the fuck is it!!" He frantically pulls out drawer after drawer but to no avail. In the large pile of mess, there is nothing.

The demon backs off from the mess. It's quite obvious someone deliberately infiltrated and took the orb.

"FUCK!" He screams before kicking the pile.

A group of subordinates scuttles to the room upon hearing the chaos. The demon turns to the group and orders them to pack everything up.

"Take only important and confidential items. Leave everything else! Hurry!" The demon says.

"Yes!"

...

"Ughh..." The demon walks across a dark hallway. Light emerges from a door, revealing a large laboratory of containers and tubes. Within large containers are humanoid monstrosities floating in water connected to a tube at the nape. Some have bloating skins, while others have mutated into partly monsters with little human resemblance.

He contemplates what to do with the abnormalities and clicks his tongue. The demon then scrutinizes the lab, taking every important document and file of notes.

A pungent smell travels from a room nearby. The demon notices it and enters the room. Rows of prison cells stand before the demon, each cell either containing bones and reaching corpses or humans barely alive.

The sight of malnutrition and lingering death forced the demon's disgust for humans to show. "Weak inferior beings should quietly stay and die to the demon's mercy. How dare those bastards rebel and ruin the plans of the great ones!"

He walks across the cells to the deepest part, where an exceptionally secure jail presents. With metal walls of three layers enhanced by magic, the resident is chained to the wall using ten red chains. Despite this, many have died in the cell at the hands of the mysterious entity.

The demon opens the door and enters. He pinches his nose from the smell of decaying corpses and blood.

"Hey." The demon says.

The chained prisoner looks at the demon and drools with a menacing smile. As light sets on the prisoner, a single curly horn can be seen protruding from the forehead towards the left. The creature is somewhat of a half-human and half-demon.

Its unusually scrawny and long limbs resemble a monster.

"Papa will let you out now. You can eat and kill everything here."

The monster's smile widens. Its saliva becomes a waterfall.

The moment the demon releases the chains, the monster bashes through the layers of metal like paper and feasts on other captives.

=======================================

"Ugh..." I pinch my nose to shield it from the grotesque atmosphere.

Before me are the sewers of Clamore which Armin specifically asked me to check.

As I step further in, a panel pops up.

------------------

You have entered Radis' Lair.

------------------

------------------

A side mission has been created!

Kill Radis

Sub objectives:

->Kill the "monster"

->Kill 200 cultists

->Find documents about the experiments.

Reward: ???

Failure will result in a relocation of "Radis' Lair" and an increase in difficulty.

-------------------

Ah...Radis.

Radis is a demon hidden in Rodgof. Although it's not compulsory to kill him for chapter two, doing so will give us a large advantage.

But his lair relocates into random locations at random times so I did not bother searching.

Armin...what is he thinking?

Within the sewer is an odd passage that leads to a set of stairs.

Two men carrying a box climb the stairs and stop. "Who are you? What do you want?"

I smile. "Uh...there was a rat infestation report so I was wondering if both of you know anything about it?"

The men exchange glances and immediately drop their boxes, reaching for their weapons.

*BANG! BANG!*

Two shots from my pistols blast their head open.

The loud shots attracted several people.

"Intruder!" A man shouts.

Six more heads explode. I jump to the bottom of the stairs to meet a blade swinging at my face. My lighting reflexes lean my body back and retaliate with a shot through the attacker's jaw.

"Stop him!"

Standing in a hallway, groups of people attack from both sides.

"He is only one person, overwhelm him!"

The average level of these cultists is one hundred. They are too weak to be the security of the lair and most likely the researchers or underdogs.

I continue shooting with precise accuracy but their sheer numbers enable them to push closer.

However, once they are close enough, I slide the gun into the holster and pull out my blade, cutting a circle of blood gracefully.

"Impossible! That sword...that's Arsto!!" a man says.

"Fuck! Why is he here?"

"Run! Retreat!"

Ah fuck...come back! I need to complete my sub-objectives!

I chase after the escaping groups.
