Chapter 24.2 - An Expert

Did you go home and finally do your homework or something? The words you said are so solid, that even the harsh words you humiliated me with before have been washed away! And after you explained, you gave a sincere apology… That’s deep. Very deep!

As a brain-damaged fan obsessed with Jing Sui, it would be unreasonable to get hung up on one bitter phrase after hearing his idol’s sincere request for forgiveness. After all, a lot of those things from last life hadn’t happened, and Jing Sui hadn’t really hurt him yet. It was just a little indifference and coldness at most…

If he was determined to still not accept, then he’d really be breaking his character setting… When the time came later, he might not even be able to keep his little life, let alone complete the mission!

After a long while, Ji Ling's eyelashes trembled, and he stammered in a disbelieving tone: "You… Do you really think that?”

Jing Sui's expression was gentle. He nodded and said, "Yes."

Ji Ling finally went speechless. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. His body trembled slightly, and the sadness in his heart flowed backwards like a river.

Carlos had been standing on the side the whole time. The hand on his cane slowly tightened as his expression turned gloomy. He’d deliberately spread the gossip on Jing Sui and Ning Yu in hopes that Ji Ling could give up on his love over this matter. However, Ji Ling was singularly dedicated to Jing Sui, after all. Even if he was given the cold shoulder as before, as long as Jing Sui was willing to do so much as turn back to look at him with a faint smile, he’d forgive him on the spot…

Darkness flashed through the depths of Carlos’ eyes. He hooked his lips upwards and smiled at Jing Sui, saying in a meaningful tone: "Oh, so Your Majesty is not with Ning Yu..."

It took a lot of effort for Jing Sui to finally appease Ji Ling, so when he saw Carlos adding fuel to the fire, he looked into the man’s eyes and said coldly: "Of course not. I think you should know best, am I right?”

Carlos shrugged and smiled saying: "I don't understand what you mean, Your Majesty.”

The battles he and Jing Sui fought were done secretly, and they could not be brought to the public. He’d assumed that Ji Ling wouldn’t understand these things anyway, and that’s why he’d plotted against Jing Sui this way, but unfortunately… none of it could win Ji Ling's affections for him.

Really, how enviable...

If only the one the boy loved so deeply was him… Carlos's eyes turned dim, and dark jealousy wrapped around his heart like a poisonous snake.

Ji Ling accidentally met Carlos' line of sight, and the way he looked at him made him tremble from the bottom of his heart. For some reason, it made him feel a little uneasy, as if he was prey being targeted…

This old rascal shouldn’t be scheming against him again and plotting to use him to pester Jing Sui, right? Thinking of this point, he subconsciously stepped back to Jing Sui a little. Although Jing Sui was also very dangerous, at least he wasn’t life-threatening!

Carlos saw that Ji Ling had backed away immediately upon seeing him, and the boy had even leaned closer towards Jing Sui. Taking a deep breath, he pressed down the uncontrollable dark emotions in his heart. He deeply wanted to take the youth away directly, and confine him by his side with no means of escape... but he didn't do that in the end.

Rather than being forced to stay by his side, looking at him with hatred in his eyes, he wanted the youth to love him…

He had enough patience to watch and wait for the right opportunity…

Jing Sui was already worried about whether he could appease Ji Ling. Now that he saw the boy suddenly approach him as if he was able to give him a sense of security, his heart couldn't help but soften. For the first time ever, he felt that being relied on was actually a very blissful thing.

Last life... I’d always pushed him away, time and time again. Was the person I was at the time so ruthless… that I could treat a person who loved me like this?

The youth should’ve been doted on and cherished.

Jing Sui took Ji Ling's hand and led him to sit down beside him. He smiled gently: "What do you want to eat? How about I get it for you?"

Ji Ling had only just approached Jing Sui to get away from Carlos, and now he was being pulled to sit down by Jing Sui. He felt survival was hopeless like he was stuck between a wolf and a tiger! He wanted to leave this place so badly!

Who could eat at a time like this?

He shook his head and refused Jing Sui’s care.

Jing Sui failed to feed him, but he didn't mind. Instead, he turned to Earl Gerard and the others, saying lightly, "What are you standing up for? Sit down."

They looked dazed.

After hearing this sentence, they finally recovered from their shock just now. They carefully contemplated His Majesty's expressions, and looked pensively at Ji Ling. They couldn't stop thinking in their hearts, ‘What does His Majesty mean by doing this in public today? Could it be he’s determined to win over the neutral faction?

Or is he doing this on purpose to compete with Archduke Carlos and warn him not to casually make a move?

In short, there’s absolutely no way it’s because of Ji Ling!

His Majesty must be spoiling Ji Ling so much because of his plans. How deep he is! It seems Carlos is a level inferior today. He lost because Ji Ling’s heart is dedicated to Jing Sui.’

Thinking until this point, they looked at Carlos carefully, wanting to see his reaction. Carlos had always been at odds with His Majesty.

Then, they saw Carlos come over slowly and sit down on the other side of Ji Ling. He gave Jing Sui a provocative look, and smiled elegantly: “Would Your Majesty mind if I sat here?”

Jing Sui looked at him deeply, and remembered how Carlos' schemes last life had hurt Ji Ling, feeling murderous. However, now was not the time to fall out in public. His thin lips hooked upwards: “I would’t mind.”

Everyone: !!!

Ji Ling screamed like a headless chicken in his heart: But I mind!!!

On his left, sat Jing Sui, and and on his right, sat Carlos. He was sandwiched between two big bosses, and felt there was nothing worth living for anymore...

There was no place for Deng Dong and Rhodes on the sofa in this corner. The two of them had long since snuck far away, leaving Ji Ling as the only one left. The two most powerful people in the empire were now on his left and right. In front of them, was a group of powerful imperial aristocrats, so he felt completely out of place.

Even when the two bosses were discussing important matters and scheming against each other, they didn’t forget to check in on him and ask if he was hungry or thirsty from time to time…

Ji Ling saw how everyone looked at him, and felt like he never wanted to come out to play again…

When Jing Sui looked back at him for the nth time, Ji Ling finally struck up the courage and said: "I want to go home. It’s quite late."

Jing Sui paused, revealed a smiled, and said: “All right.”

He turned his head and slowly swept over Carlos who was on the side, making no secret of his cold warning. Then, he stood up and said to Earl Gerard and the others: "Let's call it a day. We will discuss the other matters next time."

His Majesty had opened his mouth and said to leave, so naturally, nobody would stop him. They all laughed and said, “Yes, yes. Please take care, Your Majesty.”

Jing Sui looked at the other people no more. He took Ji Ling's hand directly and stood up, saying: "I will send you back."

Carlos just watched on lightly as they stood up, and didn’t say anything to stop them. Seeing that Ji Ling was about to leave, it seemed as if he’d finally remembered something. With a light smile, he narrowed his eyes and said meaningfully: "If His Majesty really has no interest in Ning Yu, why would he let these rumors on the net spread freely?”

Jing Sui looked at the young man's face, and as expected, saw that he was depressed again. He hated Carlos in his heart for picking at his faults time and time again. Rumors were things that those who believed, believed, and those who didn’t, didn’t. They weren’t important for most people, but for the youth who loved him deeply... they absolutely couldn’t be ignored.

Jing Sui looked at Ji Ling full of tender affection. Although his heart was full of murder against Carlos, the boy was more important right now.

That’s why he held Ji Ling's hand tightly and led him out without hesitation.

Ji Ling sat in the car and turned to look out the window, pretending to have been incited by Carlos’ words. He acted as if he wanted to believe in Jing Sui, but couldn't help feeling unhappy because of the gossip... He couldn't stop thinking about how long it would take to get home.

Jing Sui's lips pressed together lightly. He fixed a gloomy gaze on the boy’s side profile. The youth was turning his head to look outside, deliberately avoiding his own line of sight and revealing his slender fair neck. His long eyelashes trembled slightly, and his transparent blue eyes looked like precious aquatic gems.

He looked so fragile and beautiful.

Jing Sui really hadn’t liked weak children like this before.  The boy was incredibly spoiled, completely unreasonable, cowardly and arrogant… He embodied all the shortcomings of the empire on his persona…

So much so that Jing Sui was completely fed up with him, and was never willing to look at him seriously or understand him.

It wasn’t until the boy’s death that he finally saw another side of him. At that moment, the determination and brightness in the youth’s eyes were the most dazzling things he’d ever seen before. They shook him to his soul.

He would never forget that scene.

The true essence of this person under his superficial skin was what he couldn’t help but be attracted to.

The car slowly stopped in front of Duke Ji Ting's residence.

Ji Ling didn't want to stay in a confined space with Jing Sui, since it made him feel suffocated. He couldn't wait to jump out of the car and get ready to leave, but as soon as he got off, Jing Sui suddenly grabbed his wrist and pressed him to the door.

The cold body of the car was behind him, and a man's strong breath enveloped him. Jing Sui’s handsome face was even deeper in the night, and his golden pupils shone with a terrifying radiance…

Ji Ling finally said panicked: “Y-Your Majesty…”

Jing Sui looked at him deeply. After a long time, he finally spoke in a low voice: "You didn't used to call me that way when it was just the two of us.”

Ji Ling almost cried. I’m about to go crazy, okay. Like I can remember the lines. You even remember this small little mistake, are you serious?! Despite this, he still shouted aggrieved in a low voice: “Brother Jing Sui..."

Jing Sui looked at how shy the boy in front of him seemed. His eyes sparkled, and his rosy lips were slightly parted. He called his name in such a pure way, it was as if a warm current had flowed across his heart, melting the hard surface bit by bit; As if feathers had gently drifted over… It suddenly gave birth to a desire to try the sweetness on the boy’s lips.

Ji Ling stared at Jing Sui's expression dumbfounded. All along, he'd felt like Jing Sui had changed into something frightening. He was stupefied for a while and stretched out his hand to push Jing Sui away. However, before he could push, the man’s face suddenly closed in the next moment. Ji Ling was scared silly. He’d just barely made it as he tilted his head away fiercely!

Warm breath brushed across his cheek. A cool kiss fell on his face...

And just as he turned his head, his line of sight happened to fall on a silver-haired man quietly standing motionlessly by the entrance.

Ji Ling's body stiffened.
