Chapter 29.1 - Scorn

The opposing man’s metallic silver mask radiated with ice cold light. It covered his entire face, revealing only a pair of indifferent black eyes.

Although he’d only seen him once last life, Ji Ling could never forget this person... As the man approached step by step, along came the memories Ji Ling had buried in the deepest parts of his heart… The anxiety, fear, suspicion, confusion, and trust, etc all resurfaced.

At that time, he had been kidnapped by the rebels on his journey home, and was about to be hopelessly killed by those noble-hating ruffians. It was then that this man suddenly appeared and prevented everything, saving his life. However, he still heartlessly had him locked up, and made him suffer fear in that torturous place without the light of day.

Although in the end, he did get out of it alive, and gradually came to realize that this guy hadn’t had any intentions of killing him… he had still been very anxious having to walk in the face of death the whole time. That period was a set of very terrifying memories.

He really didn’t want to go through it again.

At this moment, Ji Ling raised his head up and stared wide-eyed at the mysterious rebel leader of legend. The man had appeared in front of him once again...

Ji Ling really wanted to cry, but no tears came out.

The plot has already fallen apart to this state… so why are you still coming out here?! Bro, are you following me?!

Every plot point that he’d wanted to happen, didn’t happen.  It was only this one that he didn’t want again, and it had to happen.  Ji Ling was in utter despair about this evil world!

Ji Ling ground his teeth, and turned to run. In his heart, he continuously prayed that Jing Sui would come save him!

But before he could run a single step, his waist was clasped directly by a strong hand. Then he immediately felt a sharp pain on the back of his neck, and passed right out.

………………

The whole peak was shaking heavily. Feeling this swaying, Jing Sui immediately flew back, but Ji Ling was nowhere in sight!

With a heavy fist, he shattered the wall. In his eyes was an expression colder than ice. Looking at the meteors falling in the sky, he thought, those damn rebels...

Jing Sui pressed the communicator and informed the secretary officer who had stayed on the starship. He commanded coldly: "Send troops down. Even if you have to flatten the planet, you'd better find Ji Ling for me!"

………………

On the distant Empire Star…

Carlos was sitting in his study when he suddenly heard a clamor outside. Then, his door was flung open.

Anderson’s face was full of worry, as he blocked off Wen Yan on one side, and said on the other: “Mr. Wen Yan, you cannot go in."

Carlos raised his brow and met Wen Yan’s gloomy eyes. Lifting his hand to stop Anderson, he said lightly: "Let him in then.”

Anderson wiped the cold sweat on his forehead, then got out of the way. He bowed and stepped out.

Carlos looked at Wen Yan pensively. The corner of his lip raised as he sneered in a low voice: “Now this is a rare visitor. I thought you wouldn’t be back to see me again."

Wen Yan looked at Carlos coldly, unable to contain the anger in his heart. Before this, he’d naively believed that Carlos had changed this life and wouldn’t hurt Ji Ling again. However, he now found that he’d believed wrong. This person would never change. Was his restraint and dormancy before all for this moment?

This man had betrayed Ji Ling again!

Wen Yan's voice was ice cold: "Where is Ji Ling now?"

Carlos frowned and said: “I don't understand what you mean by this. Ji Ling should be with His Majesty now."

Wen Yan sneered coldly: "He was captured by the rebels on Celestial Star. You should be very clear on this fact.”

Carlos' pupils constricted, and his expression finally changed. He said in a low voice, "I had no idea.”

Part of the reason why Wen Yan could climb to his status today was because he had a lot of eyes and contacts behind him. His information network was fast, and he’d been paying attention to Ji Ling’s situation over there the whole time. He’d gotten the news in less than a moment’s time, and hurried over on the spot. However, he hadn’t expected Carlos to deny his involvement.

Wen Yan remembered what had happened last life, and his tone was frosty as he said: "You have no idea? Don’t tell me you weren’t the one who leaked the information to those rebels?"

As Carlos listened, anger gradually surfaced in his eyes. He emphasized each word as he said: “It-was-not-me.”

Wen Yan looked Carlos straight in the eye, but couldn't detect anything. Since this man had refused to admit it, then he wouldn't be able to get any clues from him. He hated how powerless he was. Otherwise, he would’ve just gone and killed Carlos directly.

Although he had broken ties with Carlos already, Wen Yan still didn't want to be his enemy. That’s why he had only distanced himself. However, this matter was different.  He would not let anyone hurt Ji Ling.

No one was allowed to use Ji Ling as a sacrificial pawn.

Wen Yan's chest huffed slightly. He gave Carlos a deep look, and his voice was suffused with a cold chill as he said: "If anything happens to him, I will not let you go."

After he finished saying that, he turned and left.

Carlos stood there and watched Wen Yan leave. After a while, cold ice emerged in his eyes, and he wiped off the things on his table with one stroke of his hand. His tense face was filled with fury that was almost insuppressible!

Gabriel…

Carlos closed his eyes and opened them again, clenching his right hand tightly. Slowly, he breathed out. He was powerless to do anything on Empire Star, and could only hope that Jing Sui would be a little more useful this time, and bring his boy back in one piece.

As for Gabriel, that hateful bastard who only showed his tail, but hid his head… It was only a matter of time before he found him completely.

The only reason why he’d tolerated Gabriel and the rebels last life and hadn’t moved to destroy them completely was because they weren’t even in his line of sight. Those useless rebels who could’t grasp the situation were just little clowns. The moment they really crossed the Empire’s line, they’d inevitably be exterminated mercilessly. As for Gabriel, although he was tricky, he was too afraid to show his face anyways.

With Carlos' status and position, he’d never stoop to the level of personally dealing with an outlaw. Moreover, the existence of the rebel group did have some value. In fact, both he and Jing Sui wanted to take advantage of them.

If those rebels only knew how to hate aristocrats and kill innocents, and if Gabriel was all brawn and no brain, then he’d have enough reason to encourage Jing Sui to send troops. They’d suppress those rebels with blood, and continue to stabilize the dominance of aristocrats in the Empire, thereby intimidating those ever-greedy civilians out of further action.

If the rebels and Gabriel were rational enough to pursue their interests in a reasonable manner, then they’d became an aid for Jing Sui and an excuse to push forward his new reform.

Reality had proven Gabriel to be a clever man. That’s why he’d stopped his men from killing Ji Ling last life, and let the boy return home safely. His purpose was to avoid intensifying conflicts and starting a war. He was very clear on the fact that the current resistance was still weak, and too lacking to wage a war against a huge empire. It was essentially like throwing eggs against a rock. No matter how strong he was as a person, there was no way he could change the world.

Jing Sui clearly understood this as well. That’s why he turned a blind eye to the rebels and let them continue to exist outside. As far as Jing Sui was concerned, Gabriel’s identity wasn’t important. It was his existence and whether he could be used that mattered.

Gabriel also understood this point. His actions appeared to be disordered, aggressive, and fierce, but he was actually a very calm and rational person.

They were using Gabriel, and Gabriel was also using them. This figure was a dangerous pawn that neither he nor Jing Sui could control. In other words, a double-edged sword that could turn against him at any time.

It was because of this that Carlos couldn't understand why Gabriel had acted this way.

Had Gabriel gone mad? Did he want to start a war?

Carlos' expression changed.

As a self-proclaimed messenger of God, what do you intend to do this time?

If anything really does happen to Ji Ling, I’ll never forgive you. Even if I have to dig you up from three thousand feet under, I’ll find you, and chop you into a thousand pieces!
