“Let’s finish our preparations to head home. Your belongings were brought from the inn, yesterday evening. That said, they weren’t much to begin with.”

Aria suddenly lets out a loud voice.

She seems to have remembered something.

Aria looks at me uncomfortably.

I didn’t have any idea though.

Did something bad happen?

“I’m sorry. Because I broke our promise, I ended up breaking the sword you gave me.”

“Sword? Ah, that one.”

I pointed to the sword that was leaning against Aria’s bed.

It was the sword which broke while she was fighting the slime.

I picked it up when I saw it lying on the ground.

Aria took it and drew it.

It had broken clean off from the middle.

She seemed quite stressed about the fact that it had broken.

“Despite my promise to Lain, I continued using it until it broke.”

Apparently, Aria had exterminated some monsters at a village, while on her way here.

We had passed by that village as well, so we knew what she had done.

She probably meant that she kept using it without casting [Repair], since Kili wasn’t with her.

“It can’t be helped this time. Tools are made to be used till they’re broken, after all.”

“…Can it, be fixed?”

“Mm? You still want to use that one?”

She was using that sword since quite a while ago.

I thought it would be fine if she moved onto a new one instead.

“Are you sure? You could change to a slightly stronger too.”

“This child has fought alongside me all this time, and I haven’t even mastered it yet. I won’t be satisfied with a stronger one.”

“…”

Did she have an epiphany after confronting a monster stronger than herself?

Now that she said it, even during the blackwolf incident, Aria only made it back home after it was defeated.

“Well, if that’s what you want to do then that’s fine. Kili can easily fix a simple break.”

“So it can be fixed? I’m so relieved.”

Aria gently strokes her sword.

“Should I teach you magic that can be applied to swords?”

“…What do you think I should do?”

Aria stares into my eyes.

“…It may be a little early for you because of its large magic consumption, but I think you’d be better off if you learned it.”

“I see. Then, teach me once you think I’m totally ready for it.”

Mm?

I thought Aria would buy into it as soon as I said it, but this was different than what I expected.

“Are you sure?”

“If I’m reminded of something I can’t do, I’ll end up overexerting myself. I’m thinking of starting with what I can, first.”

“…Okay. I understand.”

I quietly put away the sword, and watched Aria’s back as she took care of her armor.

***

“Take care on your way home.”

“We are truly grateful for Margravine-sama’s hospitality.”

The day went by before I knew it, and we decided to leave while it was still morning.

Milia couldn’t control herself after all, and she finally returned to the mansion well after the market had closed.

After that, she spent the night getting ready to leave.

Thanks to Margravine-sama’s interference, there were no problems with retiring from second round onwards.

Besides that, she had worked hard to keep Aria in nobility, while also skipping her debut party as the adopted daughter of Floria house.

I truly can’t raise my head to such a person.

Even now, she had made time to send us off.

In consideration of Aria being afraid of others right now, she had kept her escort to a minimum.

Thanks to that, Aria could manage standing in front of her.

She was gripping Milia’s hand tightly as she stood beside her, but it feels like she’s much better compared to yesterday.

Before, she would get frightened just by hearing footsteps outside her room.

Her face would go pale if either Milia or I weren’t with her.

But at this rate, she’ll be back to normal in no time.

Seeing her state, Margravine-sama patted her chest as if in relief.

“Be well. Also, you’re my adopted daughter after all, so feel free to call me stepmother.”

“…Then, if you’ll allow me to be so bold, stepmother.”

Hearing Aria’s remark, her eyes went wide-open.

“W-was it unpleasant?”

When Aria asked anxiously, Margravine-sama gently laughed.

“No, that’s not it at all. I’m happy that you called me so. You wouldn’t refer to me as ‘aunt’ despite how many times I asked. I was just surprised.”

Margravine-sama patted Aria’s head.

“Aria. If anything happens, let me know immediately. You are my adopted daughter, after all.”

“…Yes, stepmother.”

“Good.”

Margravine-sama looks at me and Milia now.

“Lain, Milia. I leave my daughter to you.”

“”Understood.””

Hearing our reply, Margravine-sama nods strongly.

I’ll put more effort than ever into Aria and the rest’s training.

While thinking so, I departed from Margravine-sama’s mansion.
