Ch103 - Demon King

Ye Li spent all afternoon laying on the sofa in his office, dazed.

He stared at the ceiling in defeat. He’d outdone himself. He’d truly outdone himself. He’d never expected that he would have the opportunity to reject the invitation of a lifetime with his own two hands.

Before he even got off work, he received a reply in his inbox. The other party’s attitude was very sincere. They said that, if the timing was the issue, they could discuss it first. They were willing to adjust the schedule according to their demands.

Ye Li had initially declined the invitation under the pretense of a busy schedule. The other side then suggested that they reschedule the photoshoot for a different time. They were truly going above and beyond already.

Still, Gu Qingchi’s moods were unpredictable, and depression wasn’t something that followed a schedule. If they weren’t able to follow through on their end of the deal, it would spell worse things for them.

Ye Li edited the previous rejection email and sent it back.

After a while, he received another email.

This email was very down-to-earth. The opening statement alone contained at least four or five f-words, so the author’s fury was palpable. There wasn’t a whole lot of substance to the email, even if you took out all the curse words. The general idea was that the author was very angry, but, if they were to change their minds about their refusal, he might be able to find it in himself to forgive them and cooperate with them. The author then ended the email by asking them to please find a solution as soon as possible.

This was followed by another email which said that their intern had just sent the wrong email and they were very sorry they wouldn’t be able to work together.

Ye Li: …

Based on this person’s past behavior, Ye Li had every reason to suspect that the other party would curse him out on some interview or television program later tonight.

It probably wouldn’t have a very good impact.

Ye Li had even considered giving Gu Qingchi some public relations lessons. However, he ultimately ended up abandoning the idea. One reason for this was that it usually took a while for news from abroad to make its way into the country, and the other reason was that the person in question himself didn’t really care. Gu Qingchi probably cared more about his cat than he did his online reputation.

His fans had already grown used to waiting up to a month for a single post. Nevertheless, there would still be extended periods of silence. Gu Qingchi’s online life was like that of an old man. He probably didn’t even know how to post to Weibo. His fans had no choice but to look for traces of Gu Qingchi on Ye Li and Xiao Ke’s Weibo.

The living room was warm. The family had just finished dinner.

Gu Qingchi was sitting on the sofa, his body leaned forward. He held a small spoon in his hand. He had a slice of cake in front of him.

Gu Xie sat next to him, his arms stretched out and propped on the back of the sofa. He just so happened to have his arms around Gu Qingchi. He looked like a falcon that had taken a fluffy baby bird under its wings.

Mr. Gu had been the one to bring home a cake for Gu Qingchi. He had specifically gone out of his way to pick it up from a famous restaurant. Gu Xie had loved this chocolate cake growing up. In their father’s eyes, children always liked these sorts of things.

He also brought back a bouquet of roses for Mrs. Gu.

Mrs. Gu didn’t allow Gu Qingchi to eat this sort of stuff before dinner. Gu Qingchi was about to dig in right then and there when she reminded him to wait until after dinner. Gu Qingchi seemed rather calm on the surface, but he ate much faster than usual. Once dinner was over, he not-so-casually pulled the cake out from under the coffee table and savored it, spoonful by spoonful.

It was one of those rare occasions in which the cat wasn’t stuck to Gu Qingchi.

The custom-made cat climbing tree had just been installed earlier today. The cat had been busy doing parkour, bubbling over with excitement. It darted back and forth between the first and fifth floors before finally nestling on the highest climbing tree in the living room. It had yet to recover from all the exercise it had gotten.

Mr. Gu and Mrs. Gu were discussing arrangements for the weekend. Mr. Gu pressed a hand against his temples, looking very serious.

“We could go to the beach tomorrow. The weather’s getting warmer. The kids would be able to play in the water.”

The beach wasn’t too far away as it was only a ten minute drive. That beach was also very clean, and there’d been a lot of sun these past couple of days.

Mrs. Gu approved Mr. Gu’s proposal.

“Sure. We can also bring some food and snacks with us. We’ll have lunch there and come back in the afternoon.”

Gu Xie leaned back against the couch. He watched Woofie, who was sitting by his feet. Woofie kept leaning closer and closer towards Gu Qingchi, watching him eat with puppy dog eyes. Gu Xie started to find the scene more and more humorous.

Woofie was kept at bay by Gu Xie’s long legs, allowing Gu Qingchi to eat his cake in peace.

Once the arrangements were settled, Mrs. Gu turned to look at Gu Qingchi. The two brothers sat side by side. They seemed to have a silent understanding between them. Mrs. Gu felt a wave of satisfaction well up inside of her.

Mrs. Gu then started scrolling through Weibo. She had become obsessed with Weibo. It was almost more interesting than her soap operas.

Mrs. Gu even insisted on checking in every day with Gu Qingchi’s super topic! She never missed a single day! She was even better at using Weibo than Gu Qingchi!

She glanced at several hot topics for the day. She caught a glimpse of Gu Qingchi’s name and immediately raised her guard. It was ranked slightly towards the top. She couldn’t tell whether the topic was good or bad from the title.

[Gu Qingchi’s Schedule.]

Upon entering this topic, the very first post was a screenshot.

The screenshot contained the contents of several emails. The names of both the sender and the recipient were censored.

They were the emails that Ye Li sent to the other party.

Mrs. Gu looked at this and felt relieved to know that it wasn’t anything bad.

She then continued to read the comments. Mrs. Gu loved to read those flowery words of praise for Gu Qingchi. There were lots of netizens with a talent for words. They always had something interesting to say. Mrs. Gu could spend all day reading their comments.

[You’ve got to be shitting me. Your last appearance was that talk show from two months ago, and it was a guest appearance. You were on screen for a total of 12 minutes and 53 seconds. What are you doing with your schedule … ]

[My idol’s schedule is absolutely packed, so much so that he had to reluctantly reject the demon king of the fashion industry. However, his last Weibo post was 25 days ago. I’m literally begging you to please post before the end of this month.]

[Hahaha! Sent the wrong email? It’s so obvious that the demon king sent that email himself. He’s so tsundere. Please find a solution! Otherwise, I’m going to get angry!]

[Am I the only one who noticed that, despite all the curse words at the beginning of the email, he still said please at the end? Even when he’s cursing someone out, he still hasn’t forgotten his manners. I hope you trolls can learn from him.]

[Demon King: Do you want to collaborate?

Gu Qingchi: My schedule is full.

Demon King: I can wait. If it’s necessary, I could even go to you.

Gu Qingchi: My schedule is full.]

[No one else is as fortunate as my idol! His schedule is full! SmacksTable.jpg.]
