The words echoed in Rui Fei's head as he stood frozen on the spot. Who would have thought today would be the day he would hear such beautiful words, words he always dreamt Ji Yao would say to him.
His heart skipped a beat with a wave of numbness spreading from his face to the rest of his body. He wanted this to be true not an illusion conjured by someone to kill them.

Thinking the lamb was falling for the trap the adversary became cocky. Rubbing its hands together like it had been served a meat platter it said, "They won't taste as good as if we had eaten their physical bodies but still it would be plenty more than what we have had in the past," in its mind.
Slurping its saliva another voice similar to the first responded, "Kikiki... they must be delicious.... *sniff *sniff they are so powerful especially the tall one. Imagine the power from eating that aether. It's a pity we can only settle for their seraphic energy."
"It's your fault for being hasty..... we could have waited till he got here physically and then eat him," said the other voice in an accusatory tone.
"My fault? You are the one who had been complaining about hunger every day for the past two decades now you are blaming me for it. If anyone had to endure your constant whining wouldn't they be hasty as well.... idiot?"

While the vile creature was having an unmemorable disagreement, Rui Fei leaned close to Ji Yao's ear and whisper, "I am sorry."
Ji Yao was confused wondering what Rui Fei was apologizing for. But before he could ask him any further Rui Fei pulled him into an embrace and conjured a grey fog from his fingertips. The fog took the shape of spikes and immediately attacked the unsuspecting pair outside the pagoda.
With an ear-piercing whoosh, the sharp spikes penetrated the air and accurately struck the pair piercing through their bodies. With a loud scream, the pair fell to the ground with blood flowing from their wounds.
Ji Yao who had no idea of what Rui Fei intended to do beforehand pushed Rui Fei with a panicked look on his face. The shove was powerful enough to send a person flying but Rui Fei stood his ground. Like an unmovable boulder, he stood firm and grabbed Ji Yao tightly so he wouldn't move.
But the gentle Ji Yao from before had completely vanished replaced by an aggressive angry man who saw Rui Fei as a monster who had injured his parents for no reason.
With bloodshot eyes, he engaged his aether and successfully pushed him away. Ji Yao dashed over to his parents who lay limply on the ground with ashen faces like a corpse.
But as he took one step his arm was grabbed by the wrist and his body was jerked backwards. Ji Yao was seething with anger as he pulled back.
"If you didn't want to marry me you could have said no. What did they ever do to you? All they did was approve of you and how did you repay them?... What they said is true, you are a monster.c

With his arm resting on his injured shoulder he watched on as Ji Yao knelt before those two devils trying to save them but his efforts were futile.
He had finally got what he always wanted but all that was taken away by the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
Ji Yao grimaced from the pain as he stood up from his half-kneeling position. He walked over slowly and again grabbed Ji Yao's hand stopping him from touching these dirty things.
Ji Yao was knee-deep in his illusion that he didn't appreciate what Rui Fei was doing for him. He pushed Rui Fei away before hastily turning back to Ji Wen but Rui Fei didn't give up. He grabbed him again this time by the waist before picking him up pulling him away.
Ignoring the excruciating pain in his shoulder he carried the resisting Ji Yao only putting him down when they were a bit further. Ji Yao didn't waste any time unsheathing his sword he lunged it forward but he missed. Not because Rui Fei dodged or that his hand slipped it was because his sword wouldn't allow it.
It veered off course refusing to strike Rui Fei. When Ji Yao's consciousness attached to his seraphic energy and entered the keystone, its consciousness was also transferred. Its emotions remained unchanged. It didn't like Rui Fei but it was still terrified of him hence it change directions without Ji Yao's permission.
Angered by this betrayal a tear-stained face Ji Yao sheathed it placing it on time out before attacking Rui Fei again. Rui Fei blocked Ji Yao's attacks making sure not to hurt him.
This heated exchange was quite intriguing that the two playing dead on the ground couldn't help but comment. "Kikiki..... who do you think will win? I say the short one will lay him to waste. Look how angry he is."
"Then let's make a bet. I bet the tall one will squash him to a pulp in a heartbeat. That would make him very easy to digest."
The sound of clapping with excitement was heard before the other voice said, "Whoever wins gets a month of control..... hehehe..... you are going to lose."
"I like the sound of that. Wait and see how you will lose."
