The calmness surrounding Red Valkyrie was a big contrast to the chaos and havoc happening across the continent. The atmosphere was extremely tense and in some areas stifling leaving the citizens on their toes fearing the unknown.

Hyesong had been through so much in the past century. Not only did they have a pirate king beyond their shores controlling the waters, but they had also survived through an invasion by a much stronger species and fought bloody battles which they undoubtedly lost.

After years of fighting a peace agreement was finally reached but after five decades of a relatively harmonious society, something major happened. Their emperor and his family were murdered and a mad half breed took the throne. Granted he didn't get to rule for long but for the short period that he was in power a lot of suffering and tragedies happened.

Just when they thought things would continue going downhill their emperor disappeared when the curtain between worlds was reopened again. At first, they thought this was a good thing but it turns out they celebrated too early.

One day a caravan of Nocru with large antlers and beautiful flaming bodies strode through the gates of the imperial city straight into the imperial palace effectively moving in.

After some resistance from the nobles and officials, the Nocru known as the Qilin slaughtered the most powerful figures of the current dynasty and demanded to be worshipped like gods. Whether it be humans, halfbreeds or purebloods all were asked to kowtow before their new gods.

If anyone dared to show any form of defiance the services of the emperor's hound would be enlisted and the on slaughter would commence. Who this hound dog was was obvious.

To protect her son, husband and the Concord she did everything her father told her to. After all these years Qilin San hadn't had to lift a finger as he used her family as a leash to keep his hound in check but knowing how stubborn his daughter was Qilin San dared not relax.

There was nothing in this world that could ever tame Qilin Hao completely except if she pledged allegiance and her full loyalty to him but that was never going to happen. Hence he was always on guard when it came to her. He looked forward to the day that she makes a move.

As expected that day finally came. Their relationship being held up by a thin piece of thread began to unravel when one of the subordinates came back in a hurry and informed him that Ji Yao had left the island.

He knew Ji Yao's relationship with his daughter was completely strained. This was indeed expected that Ji Yao would leave suddenly when his mother returned. This is why he wanted to know where exactly Ji Yao was going so he could still keep Qilin Hao under control.

The only problem was that soon after his subordinate had informed him of Ji Yao's current location his heir that he trained in place of Qilin Hao did something completely out of character. As the sky rippled with the portal wide open Qilin Kai walked in and outrightly lied about Ji Yao's location. It seemed he wasn't aware that the person he sent before him had already delivered the message.

Qilin San who had been relatively calm considering that his enemy had reopened that gate just to settle old scores finally blew up at that moment. Enraged he stepped down from his throne with a whirlwind of fires surrounding his body.

Streams of fiery flames shot out from within the whirlwind and attacked Qilin Kai. His body could surely survive such torment but the torturous pain was so unbearable that deep down he wished for death. The intrusion of Qilin San's flames into his aetherial veins was so excruciating that he cried in anguish as he writhed on the ground.

Just when he thought it would never come to an end Qilin San retreated. But before he could heave a sigh of relief he heard the sound of heavy footsteps approach him as a gut-wrenching aura enveloped his body.

Terrified out of his mind he subconsciously crawled away with his entire body covered in a cold sweat and scary burn wounds on his wrists and neck. Anticipating his life to end in the very next second all he felt was regret. He regretted that he never got to see the face of his son. If only he could see his son just once then he would die contentedly.

He had done so many despicable things letting the feud between him and Qilin Hao control his life. It was because of this that he did so many terrible things with no good thing associated with his name.

But from the moment he found out about his son the veil clouding his judgment suddenly lifted and he reached a new level of enlightenment. He had one good thing in this world and that thing was his offspring. Even though the cub had been born from an illicit affair that further fueled the tension between the Huishe and Qilin clan he had the strong urge to protect his son. Thus he didn't hesitate to go against Qilin San and lie to him but who would have thought things would go in this direction. He was so anxious just now that he hastily told Qilin San another location and didn't bother finding out whether his subordinate had delivered the message yet. Such a stupid blunder only happened because he panicked. For the first time in his life, he panicked and made the worst decision all because of his desire for his son to live.

Qilin San pulled him up by his hair grasping it tightly that an involuntary tear fell at the corner of Qilin Kai's eye. With a contemptuous expression plastered on his face, he asked, "What could she have said to you that would give you such courage to betray me?"

Thinking of his son Qilin Kai kept his mouth shut. With bated breath, he stared into Qilin San's eyes with a hint of stubbornness. He wouldn't say it. He would never say it.

Annoyed Qilin San squeezed his fingers almost ripping off Qilin Kai's scalp. Qilin Kai closed his eyes with a grimace but kept his lips sealed. Shaking Qilin Kai's head Qilin San bellowed, "What does she have on you huh?!... Tell me!"

As he said this he gripped Qilin Kai's chin and forced him to look him dead in the eye. Glowering at him with a maniacal look in his eyes he continued shouting, "What is it?.... Tell me now while I am still being nice," with thick veins bulging on his neck and temples.. This was the most unflattering he had seen his uncle and the thought that he was like this because of him Qilin Kai's lips quirked up a little involuntarily.
