There's a board meeting going on with team leaders.
The Chairman's son sat at the end of the table. Scott sat on the other end.
Meanwhile, one of the team leaders is explaining the details of their new vaccine that can potentially fight against Cozalta, a new virus that was spreading over several rural parts of the Eastern Continent.
Since the virus isn't that harmful, no one bothered to create a vaccine but Frazier Pharma, which was run by the Frazier family, made huge investments to create vaccines for the diseases that are common in rural areas.
Everything is done for the upcoming Presidential elections.
If it wasn't because of a new bill where the citizens' votes were drastically increased to 70% share in the calculations, then, they wouldn't bother to invest billions of dollars.
After hearing everything, the chairman's son looked at the reports once again. He shook his head, "it is indeed good but the side effects are a bit unfavorable. Can we lessen it further?"
"Yes, we can but…" The team leader glanced at Scott, who then, said, "If our budget is increased, then, it might be possible, Sir."
"How much?"
Scott immediately answered, "at least 20 million, Sir."
"20 million, huh!" As the chairman's son fell into thoughts, suddenly, Scott's mobile started to vibrate.
Since everyone is silent, the buzzing sound was apparent to everyone.
He quickly rejected the call.
It rang once again.
He rejected it again.
After a series of rejections, the Chairman's son told him that it's okay. Scott stood up, "Excuse me."
He left the meeting room and picked up the call from a private number.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Mr. Nicholson." An animated voice was heard from the other side. Clearly, they were using a voice changer.
Scott was taken aback at first but then, he calmed down and replied, "Sorry, you got a wrong number, my name is Scott."
"Oh! Really?" The voice at the end spoke sarcastically, "Sorry about that. I just want to inform Mr. Henry Nicholson that his wife has been abducted. She's with us."
"Wha…. Wha… What are you talking about?" Scott stuttered as soon as he heard his wife has been kidnapped. "Who… Who… Who are you?"
"Why do you care?" A lazy reply came from the other side, "You aren't the concerned party. Now, if you excuse me, I need to call the right guy."
The call was disconnected right away, leaving Scott in a panic state.
He quickly called her mobile phone. No matter how many times he calls, the phone continuously rang and was never picked up.
Without wasting any time, he left the office without informing anyone in a hurry and started to drive towards home to check up on her.
The door was locked and when asked the security guard, he mentioned she was escorted by some men in suits.
He didn't know that she was going to the airport to see Wil for the last time, so, he assumed that they threatened her with something and took her away.
Since the missing cases need 24 hours of time for police to register an FIR and send a search party, Scott didn't bother to call or go to the police station even if he finds the proof.
After all, an ex-con man like him never wishes to step inside the police station nor wishes to talk with the detectives even on phone.
Not to mention, the entire police department is busy on the roads, checking the vehicles.
He thought maybe, some important official is arriving and won't be concentrating on his problem, not knowing that they are also looking for his wife.
So, he waited in his home. He just sat in the living room constantly glancing at his mobile phone while rejecting every call, even from his boss.
After an hour, his mobile phone rang. He saw it was a private number.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is this Mr. Nicholson or did I call Mr. Quilton, again?"
"I want to talk to her," Scott neither confirmed his identity nor did he reject it.
"Ok, fine. Here we go…"
Koharu who was connected to Shin on a conference call put the mobile phone near Scarlet and said, "Your husband is on phone. Say hi to him."
"Hello, Letty… It's me, Scott. Are you there?"
Scarlet who was tied to the chair refuses to open her mouth.
"Well, your wife seemed like she isn't in a mood to talk. I'll just send you the picture. Check your email," White Moon/Koharu spoke before sending him an attachment.
Confirming that she's really had been kidnapped, he asked, "What do you want from me?"
"What I want is…"
"10 million dollars." All of a sudden, Koharu interrupted Shin, just as he was about to say something.
"Eh?" "Eh?" Two people were surprised at the same time. One is Shin, and the other is Scarlet, although for different reasons.
"Okay, I will arrange it, somehow."
"Eh?" This time, Koharu was taken aback since she expected at least a negotiation. Instantly, she regretted asking for too less.
Taking a breath, she threatened him, "Okay, I will send the address to you. Remember to come alone. If you dare to contact the police, you will not even find your wife's corpse. Moreover, you also seemed to have two kids."
"Yes, absolutely…" Scott quickly agreed to her terms before the call was disconnected.
White Moon then, looked at Scarlet and snorted, "can't believe your husband this much of a coward…"
Scarlet didn't reply anything to her as she was in deep thought, not believing her ears, 'how the hell did Scott have that much amount of money with him? He doesn't have properties to sell too. Even our apartment is in my name. What's going on here…'
"Hey, what are you doing?" A sudden yell from the walkie-talkie disturbed her thoughts.
"I need Nicholson to finish the mission. Not his money…" One can see that Shin was angry on the other side.
"Cool, Redmoon. Who said anything about leaving him alive? You can have him once he comes here… But, let's take money first." Koharu grinned as she replied.
"It is against the rules, White Moon. I won't allow it." Shin was adamant about following the rules even if his mission is to kill him.
The rules of Phaneul's Order say the assassin can never extort money either from the victim or from the accused.
They'll only take the money from the order.
"Are you an idiot? We are already betraying the organization the moment we assassinate Williard Ravens. Why care about the rules, now," Koharu snapped at this stubborn rival of hers. "If you don't want, then, I'll take it. You are free to interrogate Nicholson and kill him."
In the meantime, Scarlet narrowed her eyes, hearing their conversation.
She easily connected the dots and opened her mouth to confirm her suspicions, "You keep calling my husband as Nicholson. His name is Scott Quilton, by the way. Are you sure, your target isn't the wrong person?"
"Hmpf, wrong person?" Koharu who was a bit mad at Shin, blurted out her true intentions, "so, what. Whether he turns out to be Henry Nicholson or not, both of you will end up dead."
As she turned around, a voice was heard from behind. Koharu suddenly felt a chill on her neck.
"So, you are just killers who want to earn money, huh? Thought it would be more…"
"You…" Her eyes widened in shock, seeing Scarlet just tore the ropes apart with brute force.
Just as she was about to turn on the walkie-talkie, she saw something that's only possible in fantasy movies/dramas.
A hand pierced her chest, going against the logic. Not by a sword, or a bullet but a f**k**g bare hand.
