WRS Arc 2 – Chapter 10

Unknowingly, the shooting of “How was the Brocade Letter Sent” had reached the final scene.

Acting as Gu Ji’s bride was a currently very popular flower, Wang Yuxin. Sweet-looking, with a pair of large, bright and expressive eyes, she was a goddess in the eyes of countless otaku. However, she had casual personality and was a full-fledged tomboy. Such a gap-moe unexpectedly attracted many passers-by to turn into fans.

(“花旦”, a term originating from Chinese opera, referring to a young female character type in Chinese operas.)

Before shooting, Wang Yuxin came to Shen Jiayan’s side, putting her hands together devoutly as she acted pitiful, “Brother Ji, I’m just a prop. You must definitely ignore me when you shoot the next scene later.”

Shen Jiayan gazed at her uncomprehendingly, as if to ask why she would say as such. As his pair of almond eyes widened slightly, his pupils appeared even clearer, cleaner and purer.

“Fuck, his skin is good, his eyes are beautiful. Oh heavens, I finally understand why Film Emperor Su would rather come out of the closet even if it means world condemnation. If I were a fuckin’ man, I would also like Ji Luoge, and don’t like myself!” Wang Yuxin secretly spat vulgarities in her heart.

It was just that under Shen Jiayan’s gaze, Wang Yuxin was still displaying the rarely seen coquettish manner of a little girl, “Brother Ji, aren’t you a couple with Brother Su? Isn’t this because I’m afraid that when I marry Brother Su later, you’ll be jealous!”

Shen Jiayan shook his head with a smile, softly saying, “No, I won’t.” His tone of voice was tender, and when those smiling almond eyes looked at you, it would be even easier to cause you to feel like you’re being trusted and relied on wholeheartedly.

Being gazed at like that, Wang Yuxin felt that her heart was about to soften into sand. At that moment, she couldn’t resist patting her chest as she pledged, “Don’t worry, Brother Ji. I, Wang Yuxin, am absolutely not the kind of woman who will destroy other people’s happiness. I will definitely not steal Brother Su from you.”

Shen Jiayan was dazed for a moment, then he laughed immediately, “I believe you.”

Wang Yuxin merely felt a warmth in her heart, and was preparing to stretch out her hand to pat Shen Jiayan on the shoulder, and tell him that she would definitely support him and Film Emperor Su. Unfortunately, before her hand touched Shen Jiayan, she had already been caught by someone from behind, and was then lightly thrown away like litter.

Wang Yuxin was somewhat dumbfounded as she turned her head, then saw Su You very shamelessly squeezing into the middle of her and Jiluoge from behind, before he forcibly held onto Ji Luoge’s shoulder, as if professing sovereignty.

Wang Yuxin had yet to recover her wits when she heard Su You lower his voice to say with aggrievance, “Luoge, when you talk with this woman, you no longer pay attention to me.”

In Wang Yuxin’s heart: “…” Film Emperor Su, I also have a name, okay? Do you not look at the names of your co-stars before you act? Feeling myself about to turn into a blackened fan, what to do?

“A’You, she has a name, and it’s Yuxin.” Shen Jiayan glanced at Wang Yuxin with somewhat apologetic light in his eyes, and then he habitually soothed his ruffled feathers, saying “I wasn’t ignoring you. It’s just, weren’t you chatting with the director just now?”

(“顺毛”, literally ‘follow fur’, but it’s similar to the English saying, metaphorically meaning to go along with someone else’s mood, the same way you would stroke an animal’s fur in the correct direction.)

“How is chatting with him more important than accompanying you?” Su You said without hesitation. He had brought his abilities as a film emperor to the max, and with an upset face, he looked just like a large dog that had been abandoned. “Luoge, why do you remember that woman’s name so clearly? Besides, I saw it all just now. You’ve already smiled at her twice.”

Shen Jiayan looks at Su You with doting and helpless eyes, thinking about how this man was becoming increasingly childish, but he still comforted him, “But don’t I normally smile at you even more often?”

Su You hugged Shen Jiayan tightly, cuddling him until he was more than satisfied. He also didn’t forget to throw Wang Yuxin a provocative look.

Wang Yuxin ground her teeth silently: She had changed her mind. She would never snatch Su You from Ji Luoge, but she wanted to snatch Ji Luoge from Su You, what to do?

Fortunately, before this idea of Wang Yuxin’s could be put into action, Director Zheng had already shouted, “Start shooting!”

The moment the ceremony began, the pure white wedding dress slowly dragged across the ground behind her, and the fish-tail design showed off the bride’s charm and beauty. The bride carried fresh flowers in her hands, and leaned close to the tall and handsome man beside her. That face full of indescribable happiness as he narrated the bliss he had at that moment; the two of them could be said to be a pair of natural sweethearts.

(“天造地设”, i.e. designed by the heavens and the earth.)

The flower children carried their baskets of flowers, grabbing coloured paper and fresh flower petals, and tossing them towards the sky. In the middle of the beautiful wedding march, the priest solemnly asked, “Honourable Mr. Gu Ji, are you willing to take Miss Yang Yuxi as your wife? Regardless of prosperity or adversity, wealth or poverty, health or sickness, to love her, respect her and be faithful to he, forever?”

“I’m willing,” Gu Ji gazed at Yang Yuxi who was beside him as he affirmed in a deep voice.

“Then, Honourable Miss Yang Yuxi, are you willing to take Mr. Gu Ji as your husband? Regardless of prosperity or adversity, wealth or poverty, health or sickness, to love him, respect him and be faithful to him, forever?”

The bride gazed at Gu Ji bashfully, then said “willing” in a soft voice.

Among the cheers of all the guests, when the priest announced that “the bridegroom can kiss the bride”, the camera panned over the bride and gave a close-up of He Jinshu who was not far away.

He Jinshu’s eyelashes were slightly lowered, and he held a single red rose in his hand. His eyelashes were stained with droplets of water, as he piously repeated after the priest, and finally, he murmured, “I, am willing.”

In the end, he gave a profound look at Gu Ji, who was kissing the bride affectionately. The look he gave held an indescribable complexity—there was a pain so extreme that it became numbness, there was an emptiness that arose from giving up, and there was also a despair like a bottomless abyss. He crumpled the rose into a ball. The bright red juice of the rose dyed his fingernails red, and sharp thorns pierced the palm of his hand. Fresh blood and flower juice mixed together.

He threw away the rose, an unspeakable sadness in his smile. He slowly stepped across the rose. Crushed, trampled, stamped into the mud; Gu Ji, did you see, this is my heart, my feelings, for you?

At the end of the scene, all the staff members were unable to recover for a while.

It could only be said that Ji Luoge’s performance of the scene just now was too infectious; it seemed to have brought everyone into those feelings of sadness, bitter pain and helplessness. Such that when they see Ji Luoge now, their hearts will still feel a dull ache.

Meanwhile, Director Zheng was playing back Ji Luoge’s performance over and over again, a hint of fanaticism in his eyes. Good! It’s really good! He simply couldn’t wait to quickly finish shooting and editing. He had a hunch; this movie would definitely be a peak in his directing career!

Su You’s focus was different from that of others. As soon as the shooting was over, he immediately shot towards Shen Jiayan like a meteor, grabbed his left hand, and looked at the injury on his hand, “Did the thorns go in just now? Does it hurt?”

Earlier, Shen Jiayan had immersed himself in the performance, taking all of the characters’ emotions onto himself. He just acted the way he felt he should act, so it was only after it was over that he felt the pain. At that moment, even his eyes reflexively misted over, “Ss, hurts—”

Shen Jiayan cried out in pain, but Su You seemed to be in even more pain than him, “Where are the medical supplies? Hurry, give them to me!” After he finished saying this, he blew gently on the wound on Shen Jiayan’s hand: “Is this better like this?”

The nerves of ten fingers are linked to the heart, any movement is an ache drilled through the heart. Shen Jiayan continuously breathed cold air in pain, but each time Su You looked at him, he would try his best to smile, “A’You, it’s okay, it doesn’t hurt anymore. Don’t be so nervous.”

(“十指连心”, usually used as a metaphor for how close a relationship is, but I guess it’s also quite literal here.)

The medical supplies arrived.

Su You carefully faced the sun to pick out the flower thorns from Shen Jiayan’s index finger. As long as Shen Jiayan struggled a little, Su you would hold his finger and dare not move again. His face filled with tender affection was beyond verbal expression.

When he finally picked out all the thorns, Su You sighed with obvious relief. While applying some iodine solution for disinfection, he said in front of Director Zheng, “Next time, don’t be so serious when filming and hurt yourself again.”

Shen Jiayan obediently nodded, watching Su You carefully stick a band-aid on his finger.

As a director, an actor unexpectedly said to another actor in front of him, don’t take it too seriously when filming. There should be no other director who would end up like him.

Director Zheng asked the cameraman who was by the side, “Have you recorded the scene just now?”

“Yes, I have.”

“Good, send it to me. I’ll upload it on Weibo.” Director Zheng took out his mobile phone. “Just nice, it can be used as free promotion.”

The first half season of “Dormancy” had ended. Fans of the FuYu (Affluent) husbands were either licking old sugar, or coming up with headcanons to write fanfiction, and draw cute slice-of-life comics. Generally speaking, they were all crying to be fed.

(“富裕”, which means ‘prosperous’ or ‘wealthy’, is pronounced the same way as “复钰” i.e. FuYu, the ship/couple name. This is extra pun-y, as “复钰” literally means ‘double treasure’.)

At this very moment, Director Zheng, who had been watched attentively by Su You and Ji Luoge together, posted on Weibo without warning. There was a video with a duration of more than three minutes accompanied by a very fashionable sentence above it: “My actors keep showing their love every day, what should I do? Waiting online, it’s a little urgent.”

Unsurprisingly, the comments below this exploded.

“Did anyone realise, one of them wore a black suit, the other a white suit, much like the style of a couple. The background is a church. I courageously open a hole in my brain, could it be my FuYu CP get married in a drama?”

(“脑洞”, literally ‘brain hole/pit’, is a metaphor of sorts, referring to highly active imagination.)

“The hole in the above commenter’s brain is too big, but I like it. Does anyone know what the theme of this movie is?”

“I went to search a bit; Director Zheng’s films are all literary films. However, no matter what the theme is, as long as it is the two of them acting, I will be satisfied.”

“Director Zheng mercilessly threw out the video and even gave me a big mouthful of dog food. To be honest, I once got a cut on my hand, the kind that is very deep. My boyfriend wasn’t half as nervous as Su You. I think I’m going to break up with him. Everyone, cheer for me.”

“It also seems like I have never been in love before. I have never seen a big master hold another big master’s hand, feeling such heartache. If this isn’t considered love… PS: Commenter above, jiayou.”

“It turns out you are this kind of person, Director Zheng. Just a minor disagreement and dog food is fed. Towards a director like you, I just want to say, dog food should be fed more fiercely! And: I feel for the boyfriend of the commenter two floors above.”

(The ‘and’ was written in English in the raws)

Amidst all the noise and excitement, it wasn’t that there were no sunspots. It was just that the moment they appeared, they would be counterattacked by fans who, after much difficulty, finally got sugar to eat, and had strong fighting power.

Director Zheng never thought that fans could also be so interesting. It seemed like he had finally found a new way to communicate with fans. So, he sent out another act-cute Weibo: “It’s the theme of homosexuality, to be released nationwide on May 1st. Everyone, remember to prepare for dog food.”

As expected, there was another chorus of howls from the comments below, such as “We’ll definitely go” and so on.

And now, everything has been prepared. Only the premiere awaits.
