C14 – Season of Love ◇ Hiria

I was a little depressed about Sakura-kun, but after talking to Nekura-kun, I felt much better. Whenever I feel sad, I talk to my friends. If you talk to your friends when you feel sad, or more specifically, if you talk to the person you love, you will immediately feel better. How could I not be?

I started to text Nekura-kun from time to time, except when we were meeting up. Of course, I do most of the texting. He replied to me with a simple text message, perhaps he had stopped using weird emoticons and stickers. He was quite embarrassed when we talked afterward, and I didn’t mind because I knew his way of speaking and could convert it in my head.

I’ve registered the emoticons he invented in my dictionary and use them from time to time, but he seems a little uncomfortable about it.

Nekura-kun and I are good friends.

There was no evolution, no change, no progress, but we were enjoying our happy days.

Speaking of change, there was Sakura Souji. His mood has changed a bit.

His graceful dignity and his delicate and dangerous sexiness had been about 8 to 2, with the dignity winning out. Recently, however, the ratio of sexiness has increased dramatically.

I guess there is also a bit of physical growth. He was always tall, but he was somewhat slender, but I think his bones have become sturdier.

However, I think the change is largely internal. He used to have a calm, almost expressionless face even when surrounded by girls, but now he seems to have relaxed a bit and has begun to wear a calm air.

Even though the content of his reply hadn’t changed much, just the slightest hint of a smile on his face would change the impression. It was reputed that he had started to show an exciting expression every now and then, and his sharp atmosphere had become softer.

To top it off, he’s in a good mood. Even though he was talking to Masuda-sensei, he was grinning while talking to him. It was my personal impression that he was grinning, but the girls around me said that he was smiling.

The girls would make a fuss over his grin, saying how cute he was. He seemed less noble but more familiar. Rumors leaked out that some of the girls had confessed their love to him again.

The other day someone asked him, “Did something good happen to you?”

He replied simply, “Nothing in particular,” but rumors spread that he was planning to meet the princess of a certain country, whom he hadn’t seen for a long time during the summer vacation.

There was no room to imagine what such a person would be doing during his summer vacation.

I have a vague idea that he and I might run into each other at some of the Parisian parties that my family goes to. Well, I am very unlikely to attend such parties.

At our school, we have a cleaning time once a month.

In addition to the regular cleaning duty, the whole school cleans during the morning hours.

It’s a short period of time, and there is no specific assignment, so everyone just wipes down random places and makes do with what they have.

Cleaning without an assignment is a great way to show independence and good technique. I was not very good at finding a job.

The easiest jobs are the most popular and fill up quickly. That’s why I tried to pick the most troublesome or dirty places to go and help out. Each time, I would be told, “Don’t worry about Saionji-san,” and I would stand at the end of the hallway aimlessly. This was always the case, and it was rather painful.

The principal walked by, saw me, and beckoned me over. Sakura-kun, who was wiping the windows in a nearby corridor, was also called over and taken to the umbrella-lined corridor on the way to the gym.

“Around here.”

“Ha~a.”

“There’s dust. ……!”

“Okay.”

“And there! Some few leaves.”

“Got it.”

The principal nodded, “Mm-hmm” and went away.

At any rate, I did as I was told and did a quick sweep of the area.

He was wiping down the area with a rag when he suddenly looked far into the sky and sighed, “Ha~”.

By this time, even though I was not familiar with him, I somehow began to think that he was in love. There are times when his eyes seem to fit that description. I don’t like Sakura-kun, but I know that most girls would be thrilled to see him with eyes like that.

However, a wave of sullen anger also welled up in my heart.

If you have a girlfriend, tell everyone you know!

If you’re not in a relationship, get one!

If you had done that, I wouldn’t have been in such an awkward situation with him.

Well, maybe the princess of a certain country has a lot of difficult circumstances.

Suddenly, I thought of something. There aren’t many people around here, so even if I have my phone out, they probably won’t notice. If I’m caught with my phone out, it’ll be confiscated until after school, but there’s no teacher nearby.

Gently pulling away from Sakura-kun, I wiped the edge of the umbrella pole and secretly took out my phone and popped it on.

[I’m cleaning now. I’m sleepy.]

After sending the message, I scanned around, but I could only see people in the distance. I looked at Sakura-kun, who was the only one in the vicinity, but he didn’t seem to notice my movements since he was looking at his phone.

[I’m tired of cleaning. I’m sleepy too.]

My phone shook in my hand. The reply was short but very quick. Nekura-kun is cleaning somewhere, too.

[It’s a beautiful day! I think I’m going to sleep after this.]

I smiled and flicked my phone again. As I was vigorously wiping the pillar with a rag, he replied again.

[Can’t help it if we fall asleep.]

Short, empty, really crappy words. I grinned in front of my phone.

I glanced at Sakura-kun, but he was still engrossed in his phone under a pillar at the other end of the aisle. Okay, he hasn’t noticed me.

This is happiness.

[That’s right. Can we meet after the closing ceremony? ($唇€) ] (TN: One of the emojis he created and sent with character for eye in middle)

[Sure. But don’t make that face again!]

As I was laughing out loud with a small giggle, I saw the principal in the distance and hurriedly dropped my phone into my pocket to wipe the railing.

The principal looked around, saying, “Are you done? “

With a difficult look on his face, he groaned, “Nn …… nn” and checked the area.

Then he nodded his head.

“Good job!” He smiled and beckoned me and Sakura-kun to join him, so we, who were at the other end, gathered at the principal’s side in the center.

“This! Eat it secretly”

In a cute tone of voice, he placed one milk candy in each of my and Sakura-Kun’s palms. It’s a product in a cute package that may or may not taste like mom’s cooking.

I looked at Sakura-kun without thinking, and he looked at me for a moment, but I felt that we should not make eye contact, so I looked away at the same time and locked my gaze on the principal’s face.

“Thank you very much!”

“nn~mm?”

“I’ll sneak a taste!”

To cover up the awkwardness, I thanked him vigorously, and Sakura-kun also piled on with vigor.

“Then, please excuse me”

We returned to the same classroom. But of course, we went back separately.
