Chapter 35

The sky was blue.

Even after all the friendships, romances, and secret relationships that had been going on for a long time were so easily broken, the sky was still there, unchanged.

A picture was added to something that had no form, but because of that, the original form disappeared.

But it didn’t disappear, it was just a misunderstanding of what it had originally been.

The thought that had been going on for a long time finally reached a dead end. I can’t come to a conclusion on my own, because the future lies with my partner.

So there was nothing more for me to do. I was in a daze.

I looked out the window, but I didn’t see anything, and I didn’t hear anything. I rested my cheek on the window sill and was not thinking about anything.

Suddenly, a soft touch stuck to my back and made me stiffen.

I heard a giggle and knew who it was.

“H-Hiria-chan?”

I couldn’t help but call her by that name and then turn pale, thinking that it must be Saionji-san.

“If I don’t look at your face like this, you’re still Nekura-kun huh…”

Saionji-san said and hugged me with more and more strength.

“Eh, but I’m Sakura.”

“But you’re Nekura-kun, right?”

“Yeah. Th-that’s fine, but this position is…”

“Is it bad? I’ve always wanted to touch Nekura-kun… It’s like you really exist…”

“B-but…”

“I, after all, still like Nekura-kun huh…”

In contrast to the first part, which she said to cover up, the second part was very slow and calm.

There was a slight pause, and then a smaller, somewhat unsure voice asked, “…What about Nekura-kun?”

I know the answer, of course, I do.

After a long period of thought, I arrived at the answer, which was still the same as the first. I was relieved by that.

I knew that I still liked her, even though she had taken out the parts that were convenient for me.

And even if she didn’t have the imperfection that I needed as a reason to be accepted, the fact that she had accepted me back then didn’t change.

“I also…”

When I finally said that and exhaled, I heard the sound of another exhale behind me.

There was a silence as if both of us were trying to catch the ball of conversation. She realized that there is no further to my words and opened her mouth.

“What about the remaining parts of.. ‘I also’?”

The voice blew into my ear, close enough that I could feel her wet breath on my earlobe as if she was standing tall.

“I, also…”

My thoughts stopped, and the words didn’t go on for any length of time. The warmth on my back, the slight tickle of her hair and the scent in my ears, and the feel of her breath almost caused me to forget what I was going to say if I wasn’t careful.

“For the time being, move away from me…”

“Eh, since we both have feelings, isn’t it fine?”

“That’s not the problem…”

“Don’t wanna.”

“H-Hiria-chan…”

Instead of loosening her arms to hug me, she leaned even closer to me as if she was trying to be indulgent. So our bodies remained exactly at a distance of zero centimeters. My hand was gripping the window frame tightly as if it was fixed there, holding on to something.

I heard another giggle from behind me.

“It isn’t Hiria-chan anymore…”

“Eh, Saionji-san? I get even more nervous when I call you that.”

“Yeah, well, let’s go with the middle point…”

“What do you mean ‘middle point’?”

“How about Yuria-chan, named after Hiria?”

“…”

“Nekura-kun. Try calling it, try it.”

It’s only a matter of changing “hi”  into a “yu”, but I’m so nervous.

“Yu..ri, a-cha…n.”

“I feel like I’m being called by a cursed doll…Bufu~”

Saionji-san put her face on my back and burst out laughing. Her arms were still holding me, so we swayed together. I couldn’t see her face, but her laughing atmosphere was very much like Hiria-chan’s.

“Wh-what about me?”

“You’re Sakura-kun, after Nekura-kun.”

“…”

“Huh? Do you have any complaints?”

“It’s not fair, is it…?”

“I wonder. Well then… Souji-kun!”

“… go, ri gabu,gugu fu”

“Uwa, what’s wrong? You’re mixing up the characters.”

You expressed your own frustration, but you were unguarded by the shock that followed. It only takes a little imagination. Idiot! Me!

“…Calling me Sakura, or Nekura, or Taro the garbage bag, or anything is… fine.”

“Sakura-kun, you really are Nekura-kun, aren’t you?”

The way she giggled easily was very familiar to me.

“Hiria-chan also …really was Saionji-san huh…”

“Yeah. Hey, if we can’t see faces, we can get a pretty good sense of what it was like before right!”

It’s true that the voice alone makes me think that it’s really only Hiria-chan who’s there.

“I guess so…”

“Let’s always talk like this from now on!”

“Region switch!” (TN: Don’t ask me… “理ギォっ市ュ!”)

Absolutely impossible!

I slammed my head against the window.

“Uwa, are you okay?”

It wasn’t enough to bring me back to my senses, so I hit it again, and again, and again.

“Nekura-kun?”

It was a good thing she had accidentally changed my name back.

If she had called me by my real name, the glass would have broken. Then, the consciousness from the breaking glass would have been released, and Buddha would have come into existence.

“Hey… do you want to talk to me face to face?”

I knew I would be nervous if I saw her face.

“…It’s okay.”

“Then, let’s talk like this.”

“Eh… like this?”

I heard a wicked laugh like ‘Ishishi’’ as if she knew what she was doing. Then, as usual, she laughed again, triggered by her own laughter.

When she finished laughing, she let out a breath.

“I’ve never really tried to make people understand me. I am who I am, and it’s the fault of people to misunderstand me.”

“…Yeah?”

“That’s why I’m going to talk to people a little more, and show them who I really am.”

“Mm.”

“You’re afraid of ruining your image, aren’t you, Sakura-kun?”

“Yeah.”

“Then, why don’t we destroy it together? It’ll be a lot easier.”

“How?”

“You know…”

I was jolted out of my thoughts by a cute little whisper that came out of her mouth, so close that her lips almost touched my ear. Uwa, I think her lips just hit my earlobe for about a millimeter for about 0.2 seconds.

“…How about that?”

“I’m sorry, it didn’t register in my head at all because of our position.”

She said, “It can’t be helped” and I was hoping that this sweet torture would finally be over. But then she started breathing on me again, in the same position.

Like I said, no matter how many times I tried, the language would never reach my brain. In the first place, there was no need to whisper at all in this small room where there were only two people.

With a slightly frustrated “Mu~” groan, my body was finally released from her arms.

“Well, as I said, we should hold hands and go back to class.”

My body swayed and I fell to the floor. As if in slow motion, the ceiling became distant.

There was a ringing in my ears above my head, and I realized on the edge of my consciousness that it was the chime that signaled the end of the lunch break.

“Sorry, it’s impossible…  you can go back first…”

When I finally said that, Saionji-san crouched down in front of me.

“Hmm, it’s no good, Souji-kun.”

“Saionji-san does not understand…”

Both Sakura Souji and Nekura were standard disgusting high school boys, but they both did their best to hide that fact. The incomprehensible beautiful girl here is even violent.

“If I don’t understand, tell me about it.”

“It’s not possible.”

“What I expect is for Sakura-kun and Nekura-kun to be exactly as they are.”

No matter what she says, if I expose this part of myself, I feel like I’ll get beaten up anyway. I can’t. This person is definitely not immune to that kind of thing.

Saionji-san stood up and stretched with a huff.

“I’ll give up for today, but don’t think you can get away with this!”

Saionji-san spat out the bad guy line in a cute voice, chuckled, and walked out the door.

I think I’ve fallen in love with some crazy girl, but maybe it’s just my imagination.

I hope it’s just my imagination.

TN: Finally it’s resolved… Nekura-kun is gonna have it tough. it’s not your imagination.
