“We’re recording live from 11 NEWS and today just in, a violent bombing spread has ravaged North and East Borough! The two suspects are currently residing in the Tristan Bank. A distinct-wide operation is currently underway! Stay tuned for more live information!”

____

Ten minutes before the incident in the Woodnor District Police Headquarters, a joyful tune played from the outdated radio.

Even with life's many hardships.   We persist and find happiness Today will be another day. A good day!

The room erupted in a chorus of applause as officers from across the district gathered to honor their newly promoted Police District Chief, Hans Minamori. Hans stood at the front of the room, a modest smile gracing his lips as he basked in the warmth of the congratulations.

"Congratulations on your promotion, Chief Minamori!" one officer called out, the sentiment echoed by the enthusiastic applause of the crowd.

Amidst the sea of well-wishers, another voice chimed in with a teasing remark. "You think you'll get that real estate you've been eyeing, Minamori?" The playful jab elicited a ripple of laughter from the gathered officers, the camaraderie of the moment evident in their banter.

Hans chuckled good-naturedly, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Well, let's just say I might have to start looking at some beachfront properties," he replied, his tone light-hearted.

A third voice joined the chorus of congratulations, accompanied by a jovial tease. "Haha! Takin' care of your kids will sting your wallet a little less now, won't it, Chief?" The lighthearted jest drew another round of laughter from the room, the officers enjoying the camaraderie and shared sense of humor.

Hans nodded in agreement, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "You bet it will!"

The applause swelled to a crescendo as Chief Minamori stood at the center of the room, his chest swelling with pride at the recognition from his fellow officers. He nodded graciously in response to the congratulatory remarks, his smile widening despite the playful teasing from his colleagues.

"Thank you, everyone!" Chief Minamori's voice rang out above the din, his tone filled with gratitude and humility. "It's been hard work, but even in this line of duty, there are moments that make it all worthwhile."

With a chorus of cheers and clinking glasses, the officers raised their own drinks in agreement, their spirits buoyed by the sense of camaraderie and shared accomplishment that filled the room. And as they celebrated together, Chief Minamori couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in the team he had the honor to lead.

However, the celebration was cut short as an announcement blared from the emergency speaker.

[AN EXPLOSION HAS OCCURRED AT THE TRISTAN BANK]
[WE HAVE 27 CONFIRMED DEATHS AND OTHER 100 INJURIES]
[MOBILIZE IMMEDIATELY]

The policemen hurriedly put on their uniforms before rushing to the scene, their blinding red lights and blaring alarms signaling their arrival.

Chief Minamori announced from the loudspeaker on the police car, “ALL CITIZENS, EVACUATE THE PREMISES! THE ROAD WILL BE BLOCKED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!”

The Woodnor district policemen formed a barrier around the bank with ambulances, a fire truck, and police cruisers. A red convertible had crashed into the entrance and blocked it off. At the demolished entrance of the bank, all of the glass walls and windows were shattered with glass strewn about the area. First responders rushed to the scene to rescue the victims of the blast, many of whom were barely grasping at life.

“It’s okay! Pull yourself together!” The first responder said as he carried the half-dead man to the ambulance, the man’s face swollen with glass logged in his skin.

They skittishly raced across the violent site.

“Hang in there!”

“There’s no fire! Rescue as many civilians as possible!”

“Hurry! Bring the car closer!”

“It hurts…!”

“Calm down! Don’t panic, everyone!”

Amidst the chaos, a lone man with disheveled hair and eyes as clear as diamond appeared on the roof of the bank with a confident stance. He looked down upon the chaotic masses and let out an animalistic roar.

“...!” Chief Minamori turned his head at the mysterious figure. “Make sure the media is getting this! Get his face!”

In response, a news helicopter swooped through the air, its camera trained on the mysterious man as he laughed in defiance. With each movement captured in crisp detail, the unfolding drama played out live for viewers across the city to witness.

[This just in from 11 news! We now have a confirmed shot of the target! He appears to be a young man in his early 20s with a firearm in hand!]

As the camera zoomed in, capturing the intensity in the man's eyes and the wildness of his expression, the tension in the air thickened. Who was this mysterious figure, and what role did he play in the chaos engulfing the city?

Chief Minamori said through his megaphone, “COME DOWN AND SURRENDER IMMEDIATELY! IF YOU RESIST, YOU WILL BE PERSECUTED WITH THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW!”

Suddenly, another young man emerged from the lobby of the bank. Dozens of people collapsed on the floor in fear as the man flashed his fully automatic Nakeroth rifle in the air.

“LISTEN UP SHITHEADS! WE’VE GOT ELEVEN HOSTAGES IN OUR POSSESSION! IF ANY OF YOU MAKE EVEN A STEP TOWARDS US, CONSIDER THE HOSTAGES DEAD!” He grabbed an old woman and pointed a gun at her head in hopes of selling his violent theatrics. “IF YOU HEED OUR DEMANDS, WE’LL LET THEM ALL GO UNHARMED!”

That should buy us some time…I need to get Cal back here! As long as those spirit disrupters are still active, we’re fucked!

Chief Minamori reluctantly picked up his microphone and asked, “…What are your demands?”

“OUR DEMAND IS DIRECTED TO THE CURRENT PRESIDENT OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF SANI. ANSWER ME THIS, WHAT GIVES THE GOVERNMENT THE AUTHORITY TO KILL?” His throat grew sore from yelling, so he grabbed a nearby megaphone and cleared his throat before continuing his speech.

“In a city governed by violence, crime, and corruption, what right does the government have above the common man? If we do not receive an answer within 24 hours, then all negotiations are off!”

The policemen looked confused.

“Is he an activist?”

“No, he’s just a random bomber.”

“He’s delusional! Does he believe he’ll talk with the President? Absurd!”

Chief Minamori calmed the unsettled masses and responded in kind. “Very well, we will try our hardest to meet your demands.

His subordinate, Lieutenant Ujin, looked at his superior in shock. “S-Sir! There is no way we can meet such ridiculous demands! Isn’t it better to-”

“Ujin,” Minamori interrupted, “call the riot squad.”

“Sir…”

“In this era of peace, these two men seek to disrupt and destroy the balance of society. If we don’t play our cards carefully, this incident will usher in an epochal development for Sani. As Chief of the Woodnor Police District, my duty lies in destroying such evil. Do you take issue with my methods, Lieutenant Ujin?”

Ujin shuttered at Minamori’s fervent resolve. In an almost docile manner, he replied, “Y-Yes sir…we’ll contact the riot squad right away!”
