Chapter 65: 6th instance: His simply scarier than a ghost (part 4 of 4)

Qi Yunxiu then saw how Gu Wuji did…… good deeds everywhere in this village afterwards.

Gu Wuji would even voluntarily lend a hand to repair the walls of other people’s houses that had been in disrepair for a long time. Not to mention harvesting vegetables, farming the land and other general work…… The other villagers obviously treated him with indifference, but this didn’t hamper the slightest bit of Gu Wuji’s enthusiasm.

More importantly, he really couldn’t see the pretense in this enthusiasm of his, as if he was really sincere in doing these good deeds.

A bit of carelessness will obviously lead to death in this instance, and investigating is the most important part. But this guy was actually spending all this time to do these things!

Qi Yunxiu walked over and said: “There won’t be any use even if you help these NPCs. By the time this instance ends, it would be good enough if they do not bite the hand that feeds them.”

He had no idea why he had to say such a thing. It might have probably been because he couldn’t stand by and idly watch anymore, right?

Qi Yunxiu had even thought that Gu Wuji was a person with deep thoughts at first. But only after a long time of interaction with him, did he realize that this guy was purely a fool!

“I just want to help that’s all, and had never thought of getting something in return from these people.” Gu Wuji expressed, he was originally a person who respects the old and cherishes the young.

“This is just inside an instance.” Qi Yunxiu inexplicably felt angry upon seeing him like this, that he couldn’t help but say: “These villagers may more likely be ghosts. Do you actually want to help these ghosts?”

“What’s wrong with this?” Gu Wuji said with a bit of confusion: “The worlds in these instances, are also a world. Besides, does doing good deeds need to discriminate against ghosts?”

Being looked at by Gu Wuji this way, unexpectedly made Qi Yunxiu feel a bit ashamed for a while, feeling that he really shouldn’t be discriminating against these ghosts-….. No, who the hell would want to help the ghosts in the instances, ah?

The two then went back like this without having done any investigation.

When passing by that structure they had passed by last night, Gu Wuji felt someone’s gaze on him again, he immediately turned around, but only saw a window that was swiftly closed.

The two of them eventually went back to the residence that the village chief had arranged for them. Just as the sky had darkened, everyone had already returned to the house. There weren’t even any lights that could be used, only the bright red glows of lanterns could be seen in the whole village.

This was truly a new house, which looks completely different from the other old and run down houses. Even the furniture inside were relatively modern, but there naturally wasn’t any electricity.

But for some inexplicable reason, the layout of this whole house felt stifling, which constantly made people feel that something was off.

Facing the gazes of ‘you must have learned a lot’ by the other people, actually made Qi Yunxiu feel the long lost feeling of bursting into shame. He hadn’t done any investigation today at all.

Due to this subtle feeling, he eventually took a seat at the corner of the living room, and didn’t directly enter the room like last time.

This was just the second day after all. So, the others were unable to investigate a lot of things as well. They basically just took a walk all around the village.

As for the villagers watching over the cave there, they also didn’t dare to shed all pretense of cordiality at this time, so they could only walk around.

""

“Although I couldn’t go to the cave, but not far back from the place we lived before…… is actually a mass grave” A person fearfully conveyed, “There were quite a lot of lone graves without inscriptions. We didn’t dare go over, and decided to return first.”

The others gasped in shock. They actually slept near a mass grave last night, they also felt lucky enough that only one person had died.

“I actually don’t think that this place is any safer than being next to the mass grave.” Qi Yunxiu said with a slightly mocking tone.

“There’s no need for everyone to get that nervous.” Xiao Cheng hurriedly said: “Let’s all sleep together in the living room tonight, then find someone to keep watch at night. I’m sure it’ll be alright.”

“Just do whatever you guys want. But from the looks of yesterday, I don’t think these ghosts will kill all of us in one breath. It will probably only kill one or two per day.”

Qi Yunxiu sneeringly dropped such a frightening statement. He the took another look at Gu Wuji soon after, only then did he go in the room on the side.

Gu Wuji didn’t understand it at all, and also had no idea why Qi Yunxiu looked at him for.

Everyone, on the contrary, sighed of relief. How could they dare to let this person be on night watch? They may even wake up with everyone dead.

Gu Wuji decided to stay outside, which made him come across Qi Yunxiu’s cold expression while washing up.

Gu Wuji was at a loss again. But Qi Yunxiu was originally a person he had a hard time guessing, so he simply didn’t think of what he actually meant to convey.

After washing up, everyone took their bedding and laid it down on the living room.

Since Xiao Cheng still felt very wary of Gu Wuji, he immediately arranged his vigil during dawn, for fear of being treacherously struck by Gu Wuji while sleeping at night.

Gu Wuji felt very moved by this, feeling that Xiao Cheng was very kind by letting him have a longer sleeping time.

Facing Gu Wuji’s words, Xiao Cheng only smilingly haha’d a few times.

Unlike the other people, who were still at edge and couldn’t sleep at all, Gu Wuji was able to fall asleep instantly, and immediately fell into a deep sleep after a few short breaths. Making the others, who saw this, feel envious.

…………

……

In his dream, he once again stepped into this village from outside.

It seemed to be nighttime, with the first blood moon phase hanging on the sky. There were also the red glows of lanterns in this village, as Gu Wuji walked along a path in the village.

The mist had unknowingly gathered around him, and he seems to be in a long procession with a lot of people in front. But he couldn’t make out who they actually were, and could only see their slightly fuzzy silhouettes.

""

Gu Wuji couldn’t remember what he came here for, or for what reason he was lining up here for…… he only felt, that he should do all of this.

But at this moment, an ice-cold hand suddenly appeared on his shoulder, waking Gu Wuji from this state.

That female ghost dressed in red traditional wedding dress had suddenly appeared behind him.

Gu Wuji turned around. The two were obviously very close to each other, but the other’s appearance couldn’t be distinguished as if covered by a layer of fog.

The other side leaned closer, that fog at this time seemed to dissipate a little.

Gu Wuji finally saw a pair of extremely clear eyes with a bit of bloody tinge.

The female ghost whispered a few words to Gu Wuji, as if reminding him.

…………

……

Gu Wuji abruptly opened his eyes, and felt a gust of cold wind from outside the window on his face. He then instantly laid eyes on a shocking scene.

The others in this living room had unknowingly fallen in a dead sleep. That person, who was originally suppose to be on night watch, had also fallen unconscious on the table.

The scary part was, a withered and skinny hand had actually reached in from outside the window which had unknowingly been opened widely. This didn’t look like a living person’s hand at all. It was long and disfigured, and was reaching towards the body of the player lying nearest the window.

It’s body had practically blended in the darkness outside the window, and was completely indiscernible. Even the red light from the outside couldn’t reveal it’s body. Only a mind-numbing pair of scarlet eyes could be seen.

It’s obvious that if this player was really to be caught by this dark shadow, the outcome would certainly be like that player who died yesterday, with all the blood in the body drained, leading to an immediate death.

Gu Wuji directly got up without a second thought at this time, and took out the kitchen knife that had been useless for quite some time. He then quickly rushed over, and immediately slashed at that hand.

The dark shadow outside the window was taken aback by this person, who boldly rushed over abruptly, that it’s movement froze. By the time it thought of withdrawing it’s hand, Gu Wuji had already ferociously slashed it’s arm with a knife.

A mournful blood-curdling wail immediately sounded outside. That dark shadow was thunderstruck, then ran away without a trace after fully withdrawing it’s arm.

The rest of the players were awakened by this mournful wail, especially the night watchman, who was so frightened, as he didn’t know when he had fallen asleep.

Everyone happened to catch a good look at that last scene, where Gu Wuji was holding a bloody kitchen knife, while a dark shadow outside seemed to be running away with a sorry figure.

Under the illumination of the lantern’s red glow, Gu Wuji in this scene, became way scarier that the ghost itself.

Everyone looked at Gu Wuji with fear and trepidation, “???”

What-, what is this?! Didn’t they just sleep for a while?

“Sun Shi, what the hell is going on?” Xiao Cheng couldn’t help wipe the cold sweat off his forehead upon laying his eyes on that ominous kitchen knife, then subconsciously softened his tone further, “What was that thing that ran away?”

“I have no clue at all.” Gu Wuji shook his head, “I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night, and saw a withered hand reach in from the window, which wanted to grab him……”

The player, whose sight Gu Wuji had landed on, was already pale, feeling that he had only been a hair’s breadth away from death. The feeling of gratitude filled his eyes soon after. So long as he still had a normal way of thinking, he would understand that his life was saved by Gu Wuji, .

“Then I stood up, and tried to see if I could cut off that hand. But that fellow unexpectedly had a timely reaction, and finally ran off after just a single slash at the end.” Gu Wuji said with a bit of regret.

Everyone: “???” What’s up with this tm tone of yours, ah? That sort of existence which is suspected to be an evil spirit, seems to be as simple as killing chickens with the way your speaking.
