Chapter 78: He’s the only child who survived that tragedy at that time (part 1 of 4)

In a flash, it was finally the day of the funeral.

As a matter of fact, not a single person came to sincerely participate in the funeral. Most of them only came with the intention to form friendly relations with the Cheng family as well as to socialize. The second master of the Cheng family had been an idler in various ways when he was still alive. So, let alone making friends, it would already be good enough if he didn’t offend others.

As a stranger, there wasn’t any need for Gu Wuji to attend. But he had to be present at the funeral because of the task entrusted to him by Cheng Jia’s mother.

This was also his first time meeting with Cheng Qing, the current head of the Cheng family. But since the two of them didn’t have any friendly relations, on top of the other party being so busy. So the two of them didn’t even exchange any greetings with each other.

Gu Wuji didn’t place any importance to this as well, the other party was nothing more than a passer-by to him after all. On the other hand, Cheng Jia, as the son of the deceased, was naturally busy outside, and could only exchange a few words with Gu Wuji once in a while.

Gu Wuji also attracted the attention of the many people present here. They were all very shocked with Gu Wuji’s presence here.

After all, Gu Wuji’s scandal before had been blown out of proportion. Although it had later been clarified, but some people would always feel that there cannot be waves without winds. Hence, Gu Wuji must certainly have some sort of relationship with Cheng Jia that couldn’t be brought to light, so they felt a little contemptuous towards him. However, they never expected to see him here.

The even more shocking part was, Cheng Jia’s mother was actually conversing with Gu Wuji very happily. Could their relationship have possibly been recognized by the Cheng family? How the heck was Gu Wuji able to accomplish this!

But regardless of what was going through their minds, they still continued to maintain the basic etiquette on the surface.

But soon enough, something even more eye-catching appeared. The moment a woman came in from the outside with a child around seven to eight years old, everyone couldn’t help from falling into silence.

Everyone was naturally aware that this is the illegitimate child left by the second master of the Cheng family. The only unexpected thing was that they would actually enter the hall so openly, which was truly a shock. Of course, outsiders like them naturally didn’t want to be involved with this kind of thing, so they moved out the way, one after another.

Only Gu Wuji was stunned when he looked over. These two people were undoubtedly that mother and son pair he met when eating out some time ago. He didn’t expect for them to actually be the mistress and illegitimate child that Cheng Jia’s mother was talking about.

Mrs. Tang rage skyrocketed as she said: “Who allowed such a slut like you to come here! Our family’s door isn’t something any lowly person can just enter!”

The woman seemed a little nervous, that she couldn’t help from squeezing the child’s hand. A middle-aged man escorted by bodyguards, came forward from behind her soon after. He looked at Mrs. Tang with a smile, “There’s no need to be this angry, right? Everyone is a member of the Cheng family after all. I don’t think that second brother would also like to see this kind of thing happen.”

Mrs. Tang was instantly taken aback. The people around them also began to lively discuss among themselves.

It was only then did Gu Wuji learn that this middle-aged man, who’s considered to be from another branch of the Cheng family, was also the best in stirring chaos. This time, he presumably got in touch with this mother and son, with the intention of fishing for benefits in the midst of the chaos in the Cheng family.

To go so far as to continue stirring chaos even at this time, is really worthy of the gratitude and grudges of the rich and powerful families.

In the end, Cheng Qing still stepped forward, with a lukewarm and polite appearance. But he, in fact, refused from making any friendly interaction with this middle-aged man. Stating that if the other party was really the child of the second master of the Cheng family, then that would also be their family matter, so there was no need for outsiders to get involved in this.

A bit of cold sweat dripped from the middle-aged man’s forehead. He didn’t expect this young master of the Cheng family to really be as shrewd as the rumors had said.

The last group didn’t tarry too long outside as well, Gu Wuji also had no thoughts about their exchanges. In any case, they went in very peacefully.

That boy’s eyes instantly brightened upon seeing Gu Wuji. But the tight grip on his hand, by his mother, prevented him from running over there. But everyone also got to know that this child’s name was Cheng Qi.

Mrs. Tang fumed with rage between gritted teeth, “Who doesn’t know that the child in your stomach didn’t survive, who knows who’s child this is! Thinking that you can enter our Cheng family this way, is really a very good method!”

The crowd burst in an uproar, not expecting Mrs. Tang to go so far as to say such remarks out in the open. This action clearly demonstrates how enraged she was.

Under such situation, the boy named Cheng Qi continued to unconcernedly play with the Rubik’s cube in his hand, not giving the slightest care about all the things that were taking place around him, even if there were a lot of probing eyes aimed at him. He seems to have already been used to this.

The woman’s complexion turned deathly pale, but Cheng Qing was the first to speak: “Second aunt. I’m also well-aware how difficult this matter is for you. But this is indeed second uncle’s child. There’s no problem with the test result.”

He very clearly acknowledged this child with this attitude. So, the very dissatisfied Mrs. Tang immediately started to quarrel with him.

However, Gu Wuji noticed that the woman’s complexion seemed to become increasingly discomfited, as if she wasn’t just afraid of Mrs. Tang. Not only was it more similar with the situation he saw in the restaurant that day, it was also far worse than that day.

Not just this woman, even the bodyguards around the boy, had unknowingly become completely pale and somewhat unsteady on their feet.

“Something’s wrong.” Gu Wuji sensed the strangeness, “The Yin Qi here is getting stronger, what the heck is going on?”
