Why do someone experience their perception of time becoming slower?

The most logical explanation that a mortal could formulate was that a human's brain secretes high levels of dopamine and serotonin, which dilutes their perception of time.

However, KANSENs are not limited by human limits. What is it, then?

Despite not using any form of mystical power, time simply became slower in their eyes. Her dull grey pupils met his gaze, causing enough shock to 'crash' her operating system thrice. No thoughts entered Ash's mind as her body froze momentarily.

When he removed his hood, her eyes widened. The man's white-black hair swayed slightly to the sea's breeze. His amber pupils reflected everything that she needed for confirmation.

Surprisingly, someone acted swifter than her.

"You... Commandant..?"

During their travels, it was inevitable to cross paths with their different selves. That included the Commandant of these worlds. His sea-like pupils brought them back to the peaceful times, back to when everything was alright.

Unfortunately, it only served as a severe reminder of their loss. What kind of 'soldier' were they to be unable to protect their one and only Commander?

Thus, they could easily discern the difference between that Commander and their Commander. It was hard to describe, but they could do so.

The two of them saw his clothes turning into motes of white light, only to be replaced by a familiar admiral uniform. The dirtied white uniform spoke volumes of what he had gone through. Some of its edges are tattered by flames. It became especially clear for Illustrious, who lived her painful memories every day.

Undoubtedly—

"Fukushiro..?"

"Illustrious... It's been a long time."

Just as she was about to rush at him, Ash stopped her. Her eyes betrayed what she felt as she vigilantly pointed her bow at him.

"Move, Unicorn."

"Sister Enterprise!"

Hearing that name, Ash faltered briefly. It was the first time Unicorn called her as such. Everyone had implicitly agreed to not call her with that name, so as to not 'harm' her. Though, it is doubtful as to whether she could even feel emotions with her affliction.

"You can't be sure that he is him." She said. "That thing won't affect me twice."

Turns out, she had encountered a "phantom"—the source of leviathans—with Shiro's form. It had been too real, which led to her believing that it is nothing but an illusion. In the end, her hunch was true.

"Sigh..."

Knowing that her stance won't change, Shiro made a decision.

"I deserve this." He muttered. "I'll send you to your sister's side first, Unicorn."

"B-but—"

"Leave this to your big brother. I could handle Sister Enterprise's attacks."

After a while, Unicorn nodded before being sent into Illustrious' side. The moment he did so, swathes of fighter planes engulfed him.

BOOM-!

Upon their self-destruction, it formed a huge wave to the sea. Cracks of void occurred on the place of bombing as her META status was enough to enhance her capabilities to a terrifying degree.

Turns out, Illustrious learned the self-destruction attack from herself.

'Is it dead?'

Unbeknownst to the two, she felt complex 'killing' a version of him. Her affliction seemed to have loosened itself slightly in matters regarding her beloved Commander.

"Captain!"

"Didn't you learn? These illusions would only be used against—"

Her words were cut short as she saw the aftermath of her attack. There, the man stood unscathed. He gave out an apologetic look as he met her gaze.

"I deserved that one... No, not just that." He shouted. "I deserve this for leaving you alone."

For a moment, Shiro looked like a husband who was kicked out of their house due to his wife's anger.

"You—"

Surprisingly, Ash could not bring herself to continue attacking this man. Due to reasons unknown, she could not bear to point her bow at him anymore.

"Sister Ash! He is big brother Shiro! I am sure of it!"

"...How?" She asked the little girl with a look full of doubts.

"He knows our memories together. Those times at Azur Lane that only the two of us knows!"

Sensing her perplexed feeling, Shiro began coming closer at her. Of course, he did so while not rousing her unwanted vigilance.

"That time during Valentines... In your dorm—"

"..!"

"There's also the white chocolate that looked like a dark chocolate. I ate the entire thing in one go."

"..!"

"When your sister died, you only cried when there's only the two of us. You kept an unfazed expression to not affect the morale of others."

With each memories mentioned by Shiro, her doubts began dissolving. Similarly, her heart began beating quickly. Despite her affliction, she began feeling an emotion once more.

Ba-dump-!

Ba-dump-!

When there's only a small distance between them, everything bursted.

"Shi...ro?"

Ash's voice cracked as tears began falling from her eyes. Clear teardrops made a ripple as it fell to the ocean. Her entire body trembled as it could not contain her shock.

Shiro took the initiative to come closer and wiped her tears with his white handkerchief. It is embroidered with the letters "F.S.E." on its corner, supporting her guess that the man in front of her is none other than her deceased lover.

"While I do not mind your crying face, aren't you embarrassed about it before?" He teasingly said.

"...Idiot."

Her bright smile formed a sharp contrast to her previous cold face.

*****

"Miss Enterprise looks happy right now."

"That's right! After all, big brother is back!"

After their meeting, the first thing that Shiro did was to remove her affliction. It was very easy as he had done it already on Unicorn, plus he acquired more data when he copied everything from the Sirens' archives. Turns out, their META states are forced 'transformation' to the quantum state—a status where they could shift between higher and lower dimensions. Their lifespan becomes infinite as they did not need any physiological needs anymore.

They might bleed, but blood is no longer vital to them.

Simply put, it is the equivalent of the 'ascension' to 'godhood' and the materialization of the soul. Albeit, it is more flawed than the other two. As there is a chance for some of their data to not be included during the transformation, it turns into their afflictions.

"You reincarnated? But your data was completely overwhelmed by that attack. Even Doctor Anzeel said that you have no chances of resurrecting."

"I got lucky." Shiro replied before he was fed with a spoon. "Here, have this."

He twisted the spaghetti before feeding it back to Enterprise. The latter took it naturally, which earned the attention of the two.

"Big brother. M-me too..."

Unicorn's voice became lower as she spoke until it is barely audible. She might have been proactive before, but her embarrassment came over quickly as she realized that she was no longer a kid. She lived for hundreds of years, after all.

"Here. Ah~"

Seeing this, she has no choice but to take a bite while blushing. Her adorable look made him feel as if he is caring for his daughter.

*****

"—chi!"

The wolf girl's nose became itchy.

"Someone is thinking of me."

As a , the previously superstitious occurrences became real.

Bang-!

"This world is strange."

She shot down another Honkai Beast, the name of the creature that she gained from intercepting its information. Although injured and suppressed, she could still manifest some of her powers.

"There's a [Will] suppressing this world."

For the first time, she encountered this strangeness. [Wills] exist to protect their worlds, yet there is a [Will] that actively sought its destruction. That was something very hard to believe.

"Huh."

Swiftly, she pointed her silver pistol upwards. The holographic screen in her right eye zoomed in her sight, in which she saw a white-haired man descending from the sky.

Bam-!

His suit prevented most of the damage, enabling him to land with ease. Just like her, he wielded a pair of blazing guns.

"Strange."

His blue pupils stared at her.

"That amount of disturbance but you're not a Herrscher."

Meanwhile, Mana silently looked at his pair of guns before replying,

"That armament. What have you done to her?" She calmly pointed her pistol straight at him. "That amount of suffering is not something a mortal should feel."

At this moment, Kevin realized that the girl he is facing is just as strong as a Herrscher. With a wrinkled brow, he replied to her by pointing his guns at her.

"...Who are you?"

"Sakurai Mana. A traveler."

*****

A/N: Shiro's first name is Fukushiro while his surname is Sakurai. The reason why I wrote it as "Fukushiro Sakurai" is to conform to the English naming order (since I am using English to write this). Just wrote this to avoid the confusion :)

Anyways, meet KeBIN. The Herrscher of Binding (11th Herrscher) will descend soon at this timeline. For those who aren't familiar, she's the one responsible for wiping out most of the Mantises and reducing their count to 13 (soon to be called Flamechasers).
