The party eventually reached the village that was written on the quest they had registered with the guild. They noticed that the village was a slow climb because the village rests at the foot of an inactive volcano. The surrounding area is more lush than the forest they went through earlier because volcanic soil is naturally fertilized. The sun was right above their heads when they were greeted with a wooden wall as they slowly ascended the volcano. It was manned by guards dressed in half-steel, half-leather armor, wielding spears.

When they saw the party approach their wooden door, one of the guards yelled. "State your affiliation and business here!"

"We're adventurers from the guild sent to solve the fire salamander problem!" Yelled Ellie with her sword sheathed to signify to the guards that she and her party members do not want any trouble.

"Open the gates! I'll examine your guild cards before we let you pass through the village." The guard motioned for his comrades to open the gate. The gate is made of wood but reinforced with metal and has sharpened logs to deter anyone from charging headfirst into the village.

When the gate opened, they all pulled out their guild cards, and the guard from earlier checked them one by one.

He had no reaction when he checked the twins cards, but when he noticed Ameria's platinum guild card, his eyes opened wide and his skin turned white from shock. Ameria just made a gesture with her hand; she put her pointer finger on her lips.

The guard understood what she meant and continued to act normal even though he was still sweating profusely from the revelation that an S-ranker was in their small village.

"So? Where to?" Ellie asked as the three walked side by side with each other.

"Probably the farmers; maybe they can point us in the direction where the flame slamanders come out when they attack." Nirra voiced her opinions while she had a hand on Mofu, patting the small fox. The small fox on her shoulder also had his secondary colors changed to a light red.

"That sounds solid; let's do it." Ellie looked at Ameria for approval, to which she agreed with a smile and a nod.

The group then walked around the village to find a farmer. It took a few minutes, but they had found one that was tending to his field outside the wall.

"Um, excuse me!" Ellie shouted, waving her hands up so that the farmer could easily spot her.

He noticed her shouting, so he went closer to see why there were a group of three adventurers near his field.

"Yes? Can I help you?" said the farmer in a deep, raspy voice. He wiped away some dirt that was on his overalls before he reached them.

"We were wondering if you were attacked by any flame salamanders by any chance?" Ameria voiced her question; her face and golden blonde hair were still hidden under a hood.

"Are you three the adventurers that the guild sent?" he asked with a bit of anxiety in his voice.

"Yes, we are," Ellie answered.

"Thank the holy one, those monsters keep eating my crops. Harvest season is just around the corner, which means those things will just get even more willing to eat my crops." He then gestured for them to look at the crops that were eaten. They were all trashed; every single leaf was eaten, and what was left had bite marks on it.

"We need you to help us first," Nirra said as she stepped forward.

"What do you need, lady?" He asked with an eyebrow raised.

"We first need to know where they're coming from, so can you point us to where you saw them emerge?" Nirra explained.

"I saw them come running out of the tree line, just there." He pointed at a large line of trees that were a border to a forest that surrounded the east and west sides of the village.

"Thank you, sir; we'll handle it from here." Nirra looked at her party members with a nod, and without long, all three members of the party went into the trees to look for some flame salamanders.

As they walked through the forest vigilantly, Ameria took it upon herself to brief them on what they were after.

"Be on the lookout; flame salamanders typically burry into little burrows in the ground or keep each other safe by grouping up inside a small cave," Ameria explained as she stepped over a branch with her bow drawn, ready with an arrow.

"Got it," replied Ellie, with her sword drawn and each step careful.

"Copy that." Nirra kneeled down so that Mofu could jump off of her shoulder and onto the ground. "You know what to do, mofu." Nirra said to mofu, the latter giving her a loud "mofu!"

The small fox kneeled down on the forest floor and used his very sensitive nose. He sniffed the surroundings to try and get a scent. Eventually he managed to find the distinguishing scent of fire salamanders, which was burnt leaves and charcoal.

"Mofu!" He altered Nirra and the rest of the party.

"What is it, boy? Found something?" Nirra asked as she saw the small fox point a paw towards the north.

"Good boy!" Nirra said before she picked him up and placed him on her shoulder.

"Guys, Mofu said to go that way." Nirra pointed to where the small fox originally pointed his paw.

The group ran through the forest floor, dodging branches and other foliage that was in their way. Mofu guided them with his nose and used his right or left paw to guide Nirra, while Ameria and Ellie followed closely behind.

"I think this is it," Ellie said as they reached an open clearing with only a cave in front of them. "It smells like burned leaves and charcoal," she commented.

"Weapons out, let's take care of them." Ameria pulled an arrow from her quiver and placed it on her bow. Ellie unsheathed her crimson-red sword and prepared to throw knives.

"Since we're in close quarters again," Nirra unclipped her B25 Superposed sawed-off shotgun from her waist and loaded it with buckshot.

"Let's go!" Ellie said as she was the first to jump straight into the cave, followed by Nirra and Ameria. Mofu stayed outside to finish off any remaining salamanders that would try to escape them.
