Arc-1 Chapter-16: Arc 1 Epilogue

"Amazing, Daikichi-kun, it really is all over the internet!"
"Look, Yukiho, it says something like, 'As we come to the second half of the series, the ratings are continuing to rise! Will it ever hit the ceiling? or will it continue forever?'"
We couldn't stand it any longer so we did a lot of research on the internet about our show such as, ratings and feedbacks. This is commonly known as "Egosurfing"
"Looks like the President's assessment was spot on."
"That's right. This is so worth all the trouble they put me through!"
The most interesting part was the scene where the meadow saffron appeared, and the fact that I, a normal person, was explaining it with a serious face gave the viewers a "real scare," as the title of the program suggests.
Moreover, the star of the show is Takamine Yukiho, who is known as the number one young Idol, was in a harsh environment. Which got a lot of reactions like, "Oh NO!" and "I'm on the edge!"
Of course, not all the feedbacks were positive, there were some who claims that the whole thing is a "Hoax" and there're some idiots who just posted mindless words. However. such negative feedbacks were nothing more than back ground noise.
That's the kind of response the show got.
"The feedback on the Internet is mostly positive. That's incredible!"
"Daikichi-kun, look! look! There're also a lot people praising you!"
Yukiho showed me her phone.
The girls in my age group were all praising me saying I looked so cool protecting Yukiho and that how I'm very knowledgeable in survival. A famous model even said, "I wish I had a boyfriend like him." Even though I know it's all flattery I couldn't help but feel happy.
As I grinned, Yukiho pecked me on the cheek in annoyance.
There were even some Uncles who said that it inspired them to go camping. Though it's not on a deserted island, it's still practical and interesting to do.
*Brrr~!*
The phone rang and it was the President (of the program).
"Hello, this is Yoshikawa."
"As I'm sure you already know, this is a huge hit!"
The President is in an incredibly good mood, so much so I had to move the phone 30cm (11 inches) away from my ear cause of how loud he is.
"Your leadership has been very successful, thank you very much."
"Don't be silly. It's thanks to Daikichi-kun's good judgement. At this rate, it will be flawless at least until episode 4, which has already been edited. Keep up the good work! The guy who won Yukiho Takamine is no ordinary guy! You're the king of the ratings!"
I smile bitterly.
"I'll do my best."
"Oh right, lets go out for some steaks this evening, of course it's my treat. Please tell Yukiho know as well as she is also invited."
"All right."
The phone hangs up.
"Yukiho, the Preside--"
"Steak right? I heard."
"Yes that's correct"
"Then we should skip lunch so we could eat lots of food later! Otherwise, the boss's wallet won't be left empty!"
"Calm down girl, wouldn't that get the President mad at us?"
"What are you talking about, Daikichi-kun? In times like this, you lose if you hold back. That's the rule of the industry!"
"I, Is that so..."
"Yes! He'd be mad if we don't eat as much as we can!"
"Then lets eat till our guts fall!"
That night, Yukiho and I ate a lot of food at a fancy steak restaurant. The Chateaubriand was the most delicious part of the steak, and we ate it all. We ate as if it was an all-you-can-eat meal, and the bill came to over one million yen.
"What's with all this? That's cheap, you guys."
The president smiled as he handed the black card to the clerk. However, there were tears in his eyes.
Ah, I love to eat with other people's money!
One year has passed since then.
Yukiho and I have graduated from high school and started to live together.
I got into a famous university through an AO exam, but I didn't attend. My work went so well that I had no time for school.
The show is a huge hit with both men and women of all ages, and the popularity rating is at #1 constantly. Recently, there has been some talk about inviting junior members of our agency to be our guests. There are many celebrities who are willing to take the risk to appear on our show.
Meanwhile, most of the desert island programs started by other stations had been canceled. They couldn't keep us with us, it lacked both thrill and excitement.
The commercial work is also going well. Basically, Yukiho and I appeared as a set. She's a hit on her own, but she's even more so with me. It was proof that viewers all over Japan were celebrating our relationship.
However, there is a big difference in the performance fee. Yukiho's appearance fee is 50 million per performance, while mine is at most 10 million.
This was true not only for commercials, but also for TV programs. I guess that's the difference between Yukiho, who can stand on her own, and me, who can't stand on my own. The only exception was living on a deserted island, and that was the same amount.
"We go live in five, four, three, two, one!"
The countdown ends and the camera rolls.
This time, we are guests. For some reason, we were invited to be the MC for a comedian's show.
"Today's guests are these two renowned rulers of survival shows, come on in!"
The veteran comedian turns his head towards us.
"Good luck, Daikichi-kun!"
"Ooh!"
Yukiho and I appeared, hand in hand.
