Chapter 72 Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die! by Harem-Fan
So it's Friday night and my buddy James was really bummed that his date with Ashley was postponed.
Though with the fact Fridays Business class was also canceled let others know the Long had issues.
Hana told me that most of the Long family branch members have stopped by for gloating, sympathy, or to say goodbye. Yes, many Long family members hate Laura for one reason or another, so stopping by to smile at her while she was in bad shape brought justice to them.
All branch families under the heads family are basically second tier in some noble homes, but it's not like that everywhere. For example, in the Feng, Jill and Tina get along very well. On the flip side, Helen and Scott do not.
Anyway, the bottom line is, Ashley asked James to wait for a bit, and he understood. I also received an apology call from Victoria...
She skipped her sister's condition all together and knew I didn't want her to take responsibility for Laura so she only asked if we could reschedule for next Friday, and when I told her yes, I actually heard her exhale in relief from her phone, but she tried to keep it quiet.
I had just wished her well and I would see her Friday.
And that brings us back full circle to my bummed buddy James.
So Mary and I are in my old white BMW to give it some use, and we are driving to pick up James and Akeno for a double date.
Mary feeling bad for poor James, Mary decided to squeeze a date out of me and make it a couples night. I actually like this initiative Mary is taking. So in the car she said to me.
"Akeno Minamoto sounds like a fun girl from what Hana tells me. She is 24 so we are in the same age range. Two older-sister types shooting for young boys, ha-ha."

I finally pulled up to James apartment-building. His is nicer than ours was and has three bedrooms so even with Akeno there it's no big deal.
Sending him a text we are waiting for them, I then hold Mary's hand before they get there.

Soon James and Akeno come walking to the car hand in hand. James is in bluejeans and Akeno is wearing a flower-print one-piece dress with a white-sweater. He opens the back door for her to get in and they both greet.
"Hello, thank you for having me and Jim. Right Jim?"

"So Mr Speed Racer, what will we do tonight?"
Mary saw my helpless face with this Akeno, she said to her.
"Hello James, and hello Akeno. Just call me Mary and we are going to the mall and to see a movie, if that is fine with you two."

I started the car and headed off, then I said.
"Alright, we will get the tickets, then eat, and watch the movie. If there is time before or after we can shop a bit."

Mary had me take them to the Super Mall in the northwest part of the city by the Hilton International that I killed the helicopter at. This is a 6 level mall.
Finding a good spot by the walkway connected from the parking structure that leads right into the Mall, we made our way in.

When we made it to the food-court, I passed James a bit of cash because I know my buddy is broke, and this mall is not cheap.
The two pairs of us split up to find the food we wanted and agreed to meet at one table. Mary told me she will save our table and to bring her food. Naturally I can see her from anywhere in this food court so it is not like some novel trope will land on us.

Jim, Akeno, and Mary are all sitting at the table and the two get their food, while I bring Mary and my Big Burger order.
But was it unexpected that Linda and her maid were standing talking to the three of them?!

"Hello Rick, I am happy to see you four here. I didn't expect you all to like this mall, due to it being far away."

"If you want, have a seat with us, and Mary wants to see a movie here in the nice theater. But between you guys and me, she only wants the BBQ flavored popcorn. I like traditional butter and salt myself."

Mercy and Linda sat but said they had eaten just before. Then Akeno with gossipy-eyes asked Linda.
"Hello Miss Linda, I am Akeno, Jim's fiancee, are you and Rick?"

"Rick and I are friends, study partners, and seatmates in University."
Akeno looks like she was let down.
"Oh? I thought it was like some Eurasia soap and you had a secret crush or something, then you and Mary would fight over Rick and we would laugh at him being used like a tug-o-war, fufu."
Linda blushed, Mary looked mischievous, Jim looked embarrassed, and Mercy had a look of 'Not on my watch!'
I think Akeno must be like me and a reincarnate of the god Loki! She causes mischief unintentionally. Linda then asks the group.
"So what movie are you guys going to see?"
Jim the nerd jumps in as the mood maker.
"A brand new foreign film from the UK of America called, The Princess Bride! They say it's really funny."

"Is that a violent or bloody movie?"
Mary speaks up and says.
"It is actually a movie even younger teens can watch and the violence is not the bad kind and has more comedy value to it. Actually, if you and Mercy are interested, why not join us?"
Linda did not even hesitate and said before her maid could open her mouth.
"I would love to, and if Mercy does not want to come, then she can leave and I can ride with you guys. Plus Mercy doesn't have to worry about my safety with Rick around, oh and a police woman."
Mercy only sighs and says.
"I would love to come, just let me put the bags in the car first, young Miss."
Linda only nodded to Mercy who had a defeated smile at Linda's actions.
Mary then grins and calls on her smartphone.
"Mei Xia, it's me, can you make it 7 tickets for the back-row now? We will have Linda Lang and Mercy Mu joining us. That is right, and thanks."
She smiled and said.
"She has been such a great help. She offered to wait in line for us ahead of time, fufu."
Yup, she was going to follow in secret if Mary didn't let her buy tickets as an excuse to crash. Mei is that clingy ex-girlfriend I never had!
James said in surprise.
"Your new maid is coming too? Dude!"
Akeno, looking at all the women, tilts her head and says.
"I will buy the biggest bucket of popcorn for this!"

Jim, Akeno, Linda, me, Mary, Mei, then Mercy is the seating order from left to right in the dark theater right now. Linda insisted that Mercy guards the outside while Jim guards the other.
Mercy suggested both maids take the ends but all Mei said to her was.
"I don't fight, only warm beds."
No, she really said that to her and I wanted to die of embarrassment, but Akeno just laughed her ass-off. I think it may be a China and Japan Empire joke or something?
I said to Mercy.

Mary flipped up the arm between me and her while holding her big bucket of popcorn. She leaned in to get comfy on my arm.
Linda looked at my bucket of popcorn then the armrest on my left and then said or asked me.
"Mind if we share some of your buttered popcorn? I can hold the bucket for you, Rick?"
While I contemplated it, Mary said to us.
"Great idea Linda, then Rick can hold my BBQ popcorn for me, Thanks."
So without my say, Linda lifted the arm and took my bucket and put it in her lap near me, then Mary put her bucket in my lap. I just look at this strange setup. My gut tells me I am being played somehow.
When I saw Mei looking she only rolled her eyes at me. And every time I reached for my popcorn Linda would tilt the bucket to me with happy grey-eyes.
When the movie finally started, I had an interesting realization. I had seen this movie on my last Earth but the actors are different with only some minor differences. Seems all of these Earths are connected somehow to have similarities.
Then another idea came into my mind. If the Yellow Emperor is one of five Heavenly Emperors, or three in some stories, does that mean there are others that transmigrate like me? And are they doing the same things in other worlds?
In the dark, while I was both watching this alternate movie and contemplating the Universe, I was unaware of the frustrated fisherman to my left.
Linda for the past couple of minutes had been trying to time an 'accidental' hand meeting while I got popcorn, but her timing had been off a few times.
But as the bucket neared the bottom, her prey had become more and more trapped as it had to dive deep for more popcorn. Why her struggle? For one I move fast, and the second reason, she has to look at the screen to not look obvious.

Then the big fight with the bad guy came and Linda found her opportunity. She held my arm like she was both frightened and interested in the fight...
Suddenly my right arm was also held the same way as Mary was excited for the good part! My both arms are now being embraced and I am trying to watch this movie at the same time.

If you never saw this film, this line gets used a lot and it ends up being memorable, in both lives.
Why is it memorable for me in this life? Because Linda really has a hold of my arm now and I am conflicted in my heart because I am not sure if this is just her security issues or she is just that close to me now?

Now the foe is running from the hero and at this point, Linda has interlocked her right-hand fingers with my left-hand, hidden under the popcorn bucket.

So just as I was going to say fuck it, she briefly rubs my hand with her thumb and pulled her arm out and I realized the credits are soon rolling. My mind had been so entrenched I lost track of time. And Linda is now acting like we never held hands.
I then saw Akeno still eating popcorn looking at me and Linda with a look of she was not watching the movie on the screen but the drama to her right, damn!
Mary then asked Linda.
"So how was the movie Linda?"
Linda said to her.
"I really enjoyed it."
I know Mary really well and she either saw it, or orchestrated that, I will have to use my powers of persuasion on her tonight to find out the truth here.

Our group of seven had made it to the car-park and was saying goodbye to one another.

"Will you still come over for tutoring?"
"Sure, unless something comes up. I will see you tomorrow then."
Mercy and Linda got in their car and left. Then Mei said to us.
"I will head back first while you drop off your friends. I will make a bath and food for Hana, see you later."
Then Mei took off in her car.
Now Mary, Akeno, and James climbed in our car and we were off to send them home.

"I have been in contact with Linda since we moved in with Hana, I knew about her when I became a detective, and I like that girl. I am not telling you to like her, but I did invite her to the movies tonight and the maid did not know."
I think about what she said before I respond.
"Rick, I know you're still hung up on the past, and you have done a great job forgiving her. But don't cut off your leg to spite your foot. Just spend time with her and see where life takes you. I won't push you but don't regret it later."
"Fine, I will at least think about it."
