Ability-11

As the monster in front of me swung its halberd at me, I kicked off from the ground and leaped into the air. Using my Ability, I pulled together my blood, turning it white and materialising a massive, two-handed white broadsword which I gripped with my two hands mid-air.

Whilst its halberd was still down and its flank was exposed, I swung at him with a small grunt. The broadsword swung through the air before cleaving straight into its neck like butter. The broadsword went through completely from one side and out the other, and blood splattered all over as the monster's head came flying off. As I landed back onto the ground, I withdrew the white blood back into my form, and darted away.

The monster’s decapitated body dropped to the ground, and its head was flung off to the side. I wasn't going to take any chances. Once again drawing out blood, I spawned a white pistol in my right hand, which I took aim with. Closing one eye behind my shades as I aimed, I put in two shots to the severed head, and 3 shots to the headless body.

As the shots connected, they exploded into massive bursts of flame, enveloping and blowing up my two targets respectively. The dark meadows and forest lit up in a brilliant burst of light which receded soon after. No need to start a forest fire, after all.

It was just in case, but when I go in for the kill, I tend to make sure they're dead. I could have taken them alive, but I eventually decided against that during the fight. I still wasn't one hundred percent sure of the situation, although by now, even I had to admit the chances of this being an assassin Origin wasn't that high. There was still a lot I didn't know. Division Michael would be getting here soon anyways, and I wanted to check on the unconscious little girl still near the Crack.

I drew back my white blood before turning towards the little girl lying not too far away. I had made sure she wouldn't get caught up in the monster’s rampage during our battle, and wasn't in the explosion radius when I finished it off. She was still lying there serenely, as if the world around her hadn’t just gone to hell. Well my world certainly had.

As I was walking towards her, I looked down on myself. I had retained the previous male form I had been using in Thailand, but now my white attire had been splattered from that monster’s blood when I decapitated it. Great. Despite my Ability, it was little inconveniences like this which really pulled the rug under me.

Although as far as Abilities went, I suppose I couldn't complain.

My Ability, which I had simply taken to calling Blood Control ever since a long time ago, enabled me to manipulate my blood however I wished. To be more precise, I controlled red blood cells, although any liquids with a certain concentration of my red blood cells could also be affected. Although I was initially limited in what I could do, it wasn't long (Maybe a decade or so) before I realised it wasn't constrained by the laws of physics, or anything really.

Which made sense, when you thought about it. We had pyrokinetics and hydrokinetics capable of making fire and water move however they liked, even mid-air, as well as literal Psychics capable of moving things with their mind. If Abilities really were confined to physical laws, then they wouldn't have been so mystical, and the Origins would never have become this prominent despite our small numbers.

Anyways, returning to my Ability, I could do lots of things with my blood. I could shape it into solid or even gas, or manipulate it as a sort of liquid. I could also make it levitate and move mid-air, which was a trick I usually reserved for fights. One technique I had developed was also changing the shape and structure of my red blood cells, effectively mimicking other cells. Although a downside was that the cells eventually reverted back to normal after some time.

It had been a difficult technique to practise, but by a few decades, I had become so proficient in it that I could recreate human limbs or entire bodies with just my blood. I could even transfer consciousness between different bodies I made. Yeah. Crazy. Although the whole transferring consciousness part was really exhausting and limited. It was an “only once per several months” level of exhausting. A trump card for situations like these, really.

A true shame, considering such limits hadn’t changed no matter how much I had practised and trained in the past.

Besides biological matter, I could also shape my blood to mimic physical materials, by controlling its elasticity whilst solid, or electrical conductivity etcetera. I have several blueprints-worth of high-spec weapon designs I had learnt to model with my blood. A privilege of being an Overseer.

To sum it up, I could shape my blood into biological or artificial constructs  such as limbs and bodies, or guns and swords. I could also control my creations, including the bodies I inhabit, allowing them to move freely and even fly.

But despite all this, the worst part? I couldn't control other beings' blood. Now that was the real shame. That body switch, coupled with the intense flight had really drained a good bit of my stamina. After seeing that monster in action, I wasn't about to waste my Ability on a very-irritating-yet-not-life-threatening situation like being splattered all over, not when I didn't know if anything like that was still out there in the surroundings. In other words, I was effectively stuck being covered all over with that monster’s gooey green fluids until I took a shower.

Yay.

"Way to go me. Couldn't you have found a better method killing it?"

Finishing my thoughts, I had arrived in front of the unconscious little girl, who was still sprawled out on the ground face up. She showed no sounds of waking up, and wasn't even stirring. Only the continued heaving of her chest and her still-warm body confirmed she was alive and physically well.

She looked to be your typical, average girl, with no distinctive features whatsoever really. What was she doing here? Was it really just a coincidence? She looked Western enough to make me assume she was a regular Canadian. She wore a baggy grey jacket on top of an untucked, fitting light-blue blouse. Coupled with small, child-sized jeans, her attire alone was as ordinary as it could get. She had slightly curly brown hair that reached until the edge of her nape, and facial features which I could only describe as “adorable”.

I- It would feel messed up if I had just left her here for the Cordiale to nab. Even if she was just an unlucky victim, there would be those wanting to erase her memories and send her back where she came from, or worst case...... No, that shouldn't happen. Even if there were those calling for that, I wouldn't let my Inquisitors do that to her. Psychotic murderers or hostile elements were one thing. But I've always made it a point to be more lenient to those unlucky enough to be caught up in the crossfire.

Besides, looking at her defenseless form reminded me of my past self. Shit. Why was I so soft? I guess its been a long time since I've actively come into contact with children, besides occasional visits to Central. Still, I-

I don't know how kong I stood there contemplating, as I watched her figure laying in the ground. But I eventually grew tired of faltering in my decisions.

Ah, forget this. I'll do what I want. It isn't like me to waver. I'm an Overseer of the Cordiale, leader of Samiel and the Inquisitors. One of the most powerful and influential Origins walking this Earth. I could take responsibility for a single kid.
