Episode 56

“Eutostea, you don’t remember me, but we’ve met before. That you’re injured like this stems from my involvement. The arrow my sister shot hurt you and though I managed to heal most of it, the pain hadn’t been treated perfectly.”

“…..”

Eutostea couldn’t understand what he was saying. She decided to listen, quietly. Her face was full of blankness, devoid of emotion.

“I brought you medicine that works well, even for me. This’ll speed up the healing records rather than Dionysus’ wine.”

Apollo took out a pouch containing a dried ring by grinding medicinal herbs from his hand. He laid it down on the altar where Eutostea sat.

“Are you able to walk?” Apollo asked.

Apollo looked down her feet and slowly took off her sh*es. As if living up to his expectations, Eutostea moved her injured foot. She flinched at his touch.

“The arrow ruptured the tendons and ligaments of your ankle. The muscles and bones have healed properly, but it’ll take time for them to fully heal.”

“I understand,” Eutostea responded coolly. “The wound will heal over time. Thank you for the medicine.”

Apollo’s red eyes looked up to her.

“…..”

“Walking is certainly inconvenient, but fortunately, Dionysus’ leopards follow me well. They allow me to use their backs. They’ve helped me out.”

Apollo stared at Eutostea with a surprise look, surprised that he had witnessed her speak more than one word.

“I’m grateful for your treatment and thank you for saving my life. It’s an honor to be able to live thanks to your treatment, though you didn’t have to.”

Apollo’s eyes twisted in agony as he listened to Eutostea.

“Honor you say? You’re bleeding to death in front of me and I’ve given you a good, honorable mercy? No… you’re misunderstanding.”

Suddenly, Apollo recalled that Eutostea didn’t know who he was. His heartbeat accelerated impatiently.

“I’m Apollo, the god of prophecy.”

He wanted to say it as a form of self-introduction.

“I’m one of the twelve gods of Olympus who rules over Delphi and Delos. My bow never misses a mark and the one who receives my protections is the winner and is entitled to use my laurel crown. I peek into the future through dreams. The prophecy I have always comes true.”

He wanted to say this and introduce all kinds of rhetoric that heightened his name, but he decided against when. When he looked at Eutostea, he felt ashamed.

“My name is Apollo.”

In the end, he dismissed the words he wanted to say and stuck to simplicity.

“Just remember that.”

“…..”

Eutostea wasn’t sure why he suddenly spoke in such a manner, but regardless, she nodded with earnest eyes.

“Apollo.”

When she called his name, Apollo sucked in a breath of air. She had only called his name once, but the word slurring in her tongue made him nauseous.

Was he lovestruck?

“Dionysus has gone to Olympus. It’s hard for me to greet a guest who had suddenly come to the temple while the owner is away. If you’ve finished your business, please head home.”

“…..”

Apollo had been asked to leave.

With discontented eyes he looked around. He could hear the roar of the two leopards, Mariad and Eoni, and the Moussa hiding behind the tree.

“I only say this out of concern for those who are wary of me,” Eutostea said.

It seemed that Eutostea had grown quite close to them.

Why was Dionysus’ lackeys carefully taking care of Eutostea with great care?

“Do they take care of you well?” Apollo asked, voice tinged with slight bitterness.

Eutostea nodded. “Yes.”

“Tell me if you need anything. I’ll get it for you when I come back to visit tomorrow. This place doesn’t look so good.”

Eutostea of Dionysus laughing and freely saying “I’m a destitute god.”

She immediately refuted Apollo and said, “I’m doing well. This is enough for me.”

Apollo sighed. “I’m glad to hear that.”

“I hope you don’t waste the medicine and use it well. Seeing that Dionysus dressed you up as his priest? it seems that he’s begun to finally work on this abandoned temple and do his job properly. But I hope he’s not overworking you.”

“Thank you for your concern. I’ll take care of that matter.”

“The hair…” Apollo trailed off.

“?”

“…The gift you gave me was well received.”

Eutostea suddenly discovered a change in Apollo’s head.

The brilliant golden laurel wreath was gone and now bound with a slender hair tie that was tied in three rows. The long stalks wrapped around him flew down to his shoulders like a divine thread divided into strands.

Eutostea looked closely. It looked like her own hair.

Apollo looked at Eutostea’s bare feet, lowering his eyes in embarrassment. He couldn’t speak about it openly. What was he to do if Eutostea didn’t recognize it?

Eutostea carefully looked at the hair wrapped around his head.

“Can I touch it?” she asked.

“!”

Apollo understood the meaning of her words and that was to touch him. He opened his eyes wide and gulped down his saliva.
