In the moment, running to the auction pavilion seemed to be his best bet. The young master would no doubt be surprised to see Ken run away, after all, he probably expected Ken to turn around and confront him.

"Stop! Grab him!" The young master exclaimed from behind him.

Perhaps Ken wasn’t as slick as he thought he was, hearing people shout in their general direction. However, at the auction pavilion, he would be safe. No one would have the audacity to start trouble at the auction pavilion.

He managed to rush into the auction, stopping a few metres passed the entrance, gasping for breath. He looked around to try and find Jaina, but she didn’t seem to be around.

[[Mortal! Duck!]]

Ken did as his goddess commanded, ducking, and someone collided with him and toppled over. The pair of them fumbled to the ground.

[What the hell?]

“Grab him!” shouted the young master. “Quickly!”

Ken scrambled to his feet, crawling further into, before coming across someone with fine shoes. He looked up to see Ton Rivers.

“What’s going on here?” the older man asked, his lips curled into a scowl.

Ken quickly got up to his feet and brushed his clothing off. “You’re a sight for sore eyes,” Ken joked.

“Appraiser Ton!” The young master shouted from behind, flanked by a guard, with another near Ken, ready to grab him. “That boy there has caused trouble with my family and your pavilion. Allow this young master to deal with him.”

“You sure know how to joke, young master,” Ken said, words dripping with sarcasm. “What kind of trouble have I caused?”

Ton looked between Ken and the young master. One was someone with vague connections to some kind of alchemist, though he doubted such a thing. The other was a young master with a great family name, someone who would take a high position within the town.

"I should have known you were trouble,” Ton said, shaking his head. “The first floor pavilion master was blind to see the trouble you would have brought."

Ken snapped his head back to Ton. “What are you saying, Appraiser?” This was not how he expected this to go.

"Since you've troubled the pavilion, don't blame us for being impolite." Ton pushed Ken away.

"Appraiser Ton, you don't understand! You’re making a mistake!” Ken tried to urge him.

"Don't understand? What don't you think I understand? You punk!" He slapped Ken across the face. "You dare threaten me? What kind of mistake do you think I’m making?” Ton turned to the young master. “You were looking for the one who sold those pills, weren't you? It was this lucky punk!" Even now he didn’t believe that Ken knew such an alchemy master, and luckily for him, Yue wouldn’t help Ken at this moment.

Ken's eyes went wide, rubbing his cheek. How could Ton give up such privation information? That was confidential, and by giving up such information, it would bring a bad reputation to the pavilion. Ken hadn’t expected such behaviour.

"Oh he was?” The young master grinned. “This young master thanks you, Appraiser Ton.” He placed his hands together in respect.

“You!” Ken gasped, still staring at Ton, gritting his teeth now.

“Take his ring and break his legs!” The young master said, causing, Ken to face him. “We will show everyone what happens to the outsiders who mess with our family and the auction pavilion in this town!"

[Damn it!]

Ken's heart beat quicker. What could he do? He could try and fight his way out, but he wouldn't be able to fight against so many foes. He hadn’t expected that the auction pavilion would have been the place where he would have faced such trouble.

[Where are you, sister Yue?]

He could see one of the guards of the young master step forward, cracking his knuckled.

"Try it if you dare!" Ken exclaimed, facing the two guards. He clenched his fists, ready to fight. If he was going to go down, he would do it with a fight.

What he wasn’t ready for was treachery.

[[Mortal! Behind you!]]

He was too late. He gasped as pain filled his back, feeling his spine crack. He twitched as he fell onto his knees. He couldn't even turn to look back, to see Ton rub his knuckles.

"Since you have caused trouble in the auction pavilion, then it's only right that I must punish you." Ton’s words were obviously for those around to hear, since what he did was terrible regardless of what he said.

"You..." Ken coughed but was unable to say more, hissing from the pain.

"Don't stop at breaking his legs,” Ton said, turning to leave. “Cripple him and toss him out." He left the young master to drag Ken away with his guards.

The guards started to kick and beat him, focused on his legs. The pain was unbearable, and Ken couldn’t defend himself. One guard broke one leg, the other guard broke the other, shattering his knee caps and breaking his bones. Even if he could heal his legs, he’d never be able to walk again.

[[…]]

"You little bastard,” the young master said. “Since you broke one of my men’s jaw, I’ll break yours too.” The young master grabbed Ken’s jaw and then pulled it, but Ken grit his teeth. At least he could do this much.

"If you want to do it the hard way…" The young master then stombed on Ken’s jaw, who couldn’t stop him from his position. Again and again, until he finally broke Ken’s jaw.

The pain was too much. He could barely cough as he was beaten there, just a little away from the street.

[[Mortal! Live! Don't give up just yet! This queen promises you! The moment you awaken, this queen will give you your tools for revenge!]]

This goddess who had asked him to return to the auction, the same goddess who refused to assist him.

Yet, now she was promising him the tolls for his revenge. All he could do was hope that she would actually assist him.

How could he die like this? With these men beating on him like this because they wanted to rape his Emerald?

Being stabbed in the back by the auction pavilion even though he had tried to treat them well?

The guards grabbed his ring, even snapping his finger as they checked the treasure. "Wow. 10 low grade earth pills and 2 middle grade earth pills, just like the ones sold in the auction. He must have been really lucky to find these! 10 gold coins too!"

The young master kicked him again. “No high grade earth pills? Seems like your luck has run out.” He laughed like a howling beast. "Ten gold coins? No wonder you didn't want to sell off your wife to me! You must have sold her to someone else for 10 gold coins! Who was it?"

One of the guards laughed. “Young master, he can't reply because his jaw is broken!"

"What a silly mistake!" The young master fanned himself. "Hmph. Drag him away and piss on him. He needs to be taught his place."

The guards dragged him away, doing as the young master commanded. Ken remained barely awake, enraged by it all.

[Auction pavilion. Young master with the fan. Just you bastards wait! Before I deal with the families in my town, I'm going to deal with the likes of you!]

The rage boiled deep within him. He couldn’t find the strength to clench his fists, but he could still feel the hot anger.

[I just wanted to live peacefully with Emerald in this town for a bit, but it looks like I can't even do that! I let you go, you bastard, but you came back and did this?]

His rage accompanied him to unconsciousness, but he wasn’t the only one boiling with hot rage.

[[You think you can hurt this queen’s mortal in front of her?]]
