Chapter 51:

Coming to terms

Robin:

I pull Ferenc into an empty room, and force him on one of the chairs.

“You are behaving like a child,” I snap, when he glares at me.

“Like a child? You are not the one with a chip in their brain,” he yells at me. I take a step back. “You don’t know how bad it gets, at times. At all times, I have to be careful. Because, if not, then I’ll end up drugged!”

“And whose fault is that?” I ask him. Honestly, what happened to him is not exactly sunshine and rainbows. Still, he was a danger to society.

“My own,” he screams, getting up. “I can’t even blame you. Is that what you want to hear, dear heart?”

I make as many steps back, as he does forward. Until my back hits the door, and I have no where left to run.

“What are you...” I begin, when he takes a hold of me, his hands clutching at my shoulders.

“What I want to do!” He growls, and then smashes our lips together. There is nothing gentle about this kiss.

I think he wants to bite me instead. Since he can’t, he is going for the thing that is going to hurt me the most. I push him away, but he doesn’t give up. He wraps me into his arms, and then actually kicks my legs from under me. We tumble to the ground, and his lips are on mine again.

Why isn’t the chip activating?

I don’t want to hurt him, I really don’t. Yet, I’ll be damned if I have sex forced on me. I wiggle in his hold, as he bites my lower lip, almost gently, without breaking the skin. I take out my taser, and give him a taste of the fact that I am not the man I was, 200 years ago. He jerks back, and yelps.

As soon as his arms let go of me, I scramble to my feet, and all but run to the other end of the room. We both breathe heavily, and I clutch the taser in front of me as if it can actually protect me from a dark elf.

“You are still the same as before,” Ferenc murmurs, as he slowly stands up. “You start things, then don’t finish them.”

“I beg your pardon?” I ask, still trying to calm my racing heart. He is advancing on me again. Slowly, each movement like flowing water. I have to remember that, before that fateful party, he used to be the last thing some criminals saw, before they ended up with chips in their heads.

I could scream. Not only that, but I should scream. Why aren’t I screaming?

That question catches me unawares. Why aren’t I screaming for help? The cameras must have caught everything. If I simply scream, I would have enough proof, that he attacked me. Except.

If he had attacked me, back then, he would be on the ground right now. So out of it, that he wouldn’t even know his own name.

He stops before me, and slams his hands on both of my sides. The taser presses to his stomach, yet, I don’t turn it on.

“I still love you. That is why I am so angry,” Ferenc whispers. I blink at him. “I won’t hurt you. Just...let me...”

“Hell no!” I yell, when he moves his face closer to mine. “You are insane!”

Ferenc’s eyes turn black. I pale at that.

What is quicker? The chip’s reaction time, or Ferenc?

“I...” Ferenc begins, but then the door opens with a slam. Frederik barges in, and wrestles his brother off me.

“We are going to end up in jail again,” he yells, when Ferenc tries to get out of his hold, and back to me.

“We were just talking,” Ferenc protests. His brother throws him against the door. My heart lurches, when I hear the crash.

“When this is over, you are going into anger management. I can’t keep on doing this, Fer! To pretend that, I am so obsessed with the thought of having a twin to the point of being your keeper,” Frederik yells. I can see Ray hovering in the doorway. Just when did he come in here? “We are on a case. Tine and Dany’s safety is in our hands. You cannot act like a wild animal.”

Something makes me look into Ferenc’s eyes, then. There it is, the look that I have seen during more than one homicide case. When he couldn’t catch the killer after months, sometimes years, of searching. This soul crushing feeling, that tugs at my heartstrings.

My legs move on their own accord. Soon, I am kneeling by Ferenc, and hugging him tightly.

“We’ll be fine here, Fred. Take Ray, and secure the corridor,” I tell the red-head.

“Fine? You can get your throat bitten off,” Frederik tells me. He should know. If there is anyone in this room who knows Ferenc like no other, then it is him.

“We’ll be fine,” I repeat. He sends his brother one last withering glare, and storms off. I begin to rub gentle circles on Ferenc’s back. Just like I used to, when he would come back after work with just a bit less faith than the day before.

“I screw up everything,” Ferenc murmurs, as he nuzzles into my nape. I shiver at that. His mouth is at my weakest point. If it suits him...

If I treat him like a monster, then that is how he will behave.

I do my best to relax. Slowly, I take him into my arms, and lift him up. He has gotten heavier, since the last time I carried him. All because of muscle, I am certain. I just can’t imagine Ferenc ever putting on fat on his hips. He practically lives in the gym after work hours.

I carry him to the bed in the middle of the room, and lay us both down on the bed covers.
