Chapter 53:

Contacting Rodger

Constantine:

Getting a meeting with the Prime Minister of the entire Ursula Solar System is not an easy feet. Yet, Daniel managed, after only a phone call.

I don’t know what he told Mr. Deltona’s secretary, but we are to go to Paradise Hotel on the lower half of the moon today. We will have the entire afternoon to make our case, which is rather generous of the Prime Minister.

Then again, maybe, the entire reason behind him being on Ursula 589 might be because of us. Oh, he must also be having the time of his life, and treating this like a vacation, but that doesn’t change the fact, that he is linked with the mission.

I check my suit for any wrinkles. Then, I slither to Daniel, and take a hold of his tie. It, as usual, is not tightly tied. I fix it for him, as he smiles gently down on me.

“I love it when you do this,” Daniel says. I sigh.

“I have the feeling that you don’t put on your tie the right way on purpose,” I tell him. He chuckles.

“No, it really is something I overlook. Although, I don’t complain, if it gets your fingers on my neck,” he teases, and I might have tugged his tie up a bit too forcefully. He sucks in a breath, and I loosen it just enough, for him to be able to breathe.

“Do you have topics with which you can break the ice?” I ask him.

“I was thinking I can just speak from the heart?” He says. I blink at him, so, he is quick to add. “I think that R... the Prime Minister is surrounded by people who have practiced their conversations with him. A conversation that is given a way to grow naturally would be like a breath of fresh air for him.”

“Well, you are the one with whom he wants to speak. You know best,” I say, and he smiles at me.

“I thought that you will fight me on it,” he says, showing how little, he knows me. That is ok. We have centuries to get to know one another. What with us being imprinted on each other, and all.

“I will trust in you, Daniel, even when you don’t trust in yourself,” I tell him. His eyes get hazy for a while, and he takes a hold of my hand. He brings my hand to his mouth, and stares at my ring finger.

“Your finger is naked,” he says. I chuckle at that.

“I don’t really like wearing jewelry,” I tell him.

“If I get you something, will you wear it?” Daniel asks me. I bite my lower lip at that.

“Didn’t we agree that we are going to take it slow?” I ask him.

“With how the thief can simply enter our rooms as we sleep, do we have the time to?” My lover asks. That makes me think. Could the thief get violent? I mean, he is snarky, to be sure. More than a little condescending. But violent?

He is afraid. It is my duty to talk him out of this fear.

“I know you are not ready to hear this, but here it goes: It is all going to be fine. We will catch the thief, or, at the very least, make a deal with him, to stop the thefts. Soon, we will be in our 9 to 5, delving into a new dimension,” I tell him with the most reassuring smile I can manage.

“You have dimples,” he touches the ends of my mouth, and presses down on them. “And cheekbones sharp enough for someone to cut himself on.”

“And you have the most adorable laugh lines,” I run my thumbs under his eyes. He smiles at that, his adorable laugh lines showing with the movement. He has this soft feeling about him. Like he will be there for you, and give you advice, if you need it.

“Do you want to cuddle?” He wiggles his eyebrows at me. I huff, and begin to straighten his suit jacket. Honestly, did he even press it?

“Take that off,” I say, giving the suit jacket a tug.

“Oh, do you think we have time for...” he begins, as he moves to do as commanded.

“No, I will iron it. You look like you slept in the suit,” I say, and he sighs.

“I am confident that a couple of wrinkles won’t be that big of a problem,” he murmurs, but still takes off the jacket. I take it from him, and go to the ironing table. With a click, the clothing iron is turned on. As I wait for it to start producing steam, I give Daniel a once over. His shirt looks good enough, so do his pants. Yet, when I look at the jacket, I have to admit that it is a mess.

“The next time we go to an official meeting, you will iron your jacket,” I tell him, as steam begins to get out of the clothing iron. I take it in my hands, and go about my work.

“It is nice, seeing you like that,” Daniel commends. He shamelessly stares at my ass, as I move this way and that, trying to salvage his suit jacket. “Domestic tasks suit you.”

“Are you saying I am the woman in this relationship?” I snap. Daniel rubs the back of his neck.

“Nothing of the sort. We can both wear the pants. Well, you can’t, seeing as you have a tail, but you know...” I let him continue to tangle himself in his words, as I finish the ironing.

When I am done, I let the suit cool down, a little, and then take it, and go back to Daniel. He is still making excuses for nearly calling me the wife of the relationship. I huff, when he doesn’t immediately get inside the jacket.

“I don’t know how it is on Earth, with same-sex couples,” I begin, when he finally gets the hint, and puts an arm in one of the sleeves. “But in the Cosmos, both partners take turns with both roles in the relationships. When in Rome, do as the Romans do, Daniel.”

“That sounds admirable. How about this: when we come back home, I’ll cook us a full-course dinner? How do you feel about pancakes for a Sunday breakfast?” I know that he is trying to butter me up, but I can’t say no to a home cooked meal, cooked by someone else than me.
