Chapter 70:

Getting back to Ursula 590

Constantine:

My grandparents decided to come with me. They have their citizenship renewed, after it was proven that they are indeed from Ursula 590. Now, I really need a family reunion, but that won’t be right now because life goes on, and I must go back to doing my jobs. Both the one at Manacom, and bottling happiness.

The office looks the same. As soon as Daniel and I enter, Agafia flies to us.

“Come on, show me the Dust-co!” She demands.

“It is nice seeing you too, boss,” Daniel says, seconds before transforming into his shadow self. I lament the fact that we didn’t have time to do a moon walk. I wanted to go, but Rodger told us that Agafia needed us, and that we spent too much time on the moon already.

“Oh, this is so cool!” Agafia squeals, showing that she doesn’t mind the back talk. “Tine, go on! Do it too.”

I chuckle, and transform. Just as before, I feel as if there is a shield around me. The feeling is not unpleasant, but it is also not something I can get used to, either. Still, this is my job, so, I don’t protest.

“We must begin to get more of the Dust-co. I mean, we must recruit more people. Preferably, from Earth,” she says. Daniel and I share a look.

“Isn’t that human baiting?” Daniel asks.

“They will be delivery people,” Agafia says, as she gushes. Clearly not listening to us at all. “Daniel, Constantine, you are responsible for recruitment.”

“I don’t know all that much about humans,” I protest. Agafia just swats me on the nose. Or, tries to. Her hand goes through me. I can practically see the stars in her eyes.

“Oh, just think! If we manage to get a couple of dungeon cores from Dimension Beta, we can restore our ozone layers, and our mana!” Agafia exclaims. I stare at her.

“You want something that can turn into a murder dungeon in here?” I ask her.

“We will clear it from, Dany, what was the term again?” She asks Daniel. The two of them must have been talking behind my back because this is the first time, I am hearing about this.

“Mobs. Agafia, I am not certain, if getting a dungeon core in here is a good idea,” Daniel tells her. “In all the stories I have read, they turn murderous.”

“Stories, not the truth,” Agafia says, and then snaps her fingers. “Come now, you must document everything for our new book: Dimension Beta Uncovered. Get the suits off, and to your desks.”

We comply, and start up our laptops. I can see that there is one change in the office, that I didn’t see when I first came into the room. Nahndor and Rhea are sitting close to each other. Although, Agafia’s desk is still on top of Nahndor’s.

“Hey, how has it been?” I greet them, and they smile at me.

“So, the spirit around the Caltea was your grandfather?” Nahndor asks me. I nod at that.

“Yes, and there is no one as sorry as he, for the scare you went through,” I tell him.

“Fun guy. I would really like to meet him, sometimes. Is he in town?” I am glad that Nahndor doesn’t feel slighted with the whole trick that Tony played on him.

When I asked my grandfather why he pulled the whole tantrum, he told me, that it was because of the leaves. When he admitted that he left a bottle from a happiness potion on the ground, I gave him the chewing out of the century. Something that Thea was more than happy to take up, once I stopped.

“He is. Do you want to have a barbecue later tonight? Rhea is also invited,” I say, nodding to Rhea. “And so is Agafia, of course.”

“Not Frederik and Ferenc?” Agafia asks, getting on her desk.

“They don’t like grandpa because he stole potions for ten years, and started a mess, that could have been resolved with a half-hour-long conversation,” Daniel says. I am so glad that he thinks of my family as his own. I just wish that I could have gotten to know his family, but they are on Earth. Wait a second!

“What are the chances that, seeing as Daniel is a shaman, there might be more shamans in his family?” I ask. Daniel looks to me.

“It could be possible. I have a cousin, who used to do the most convincing card tricks ever,” he tells me.

“Screen them! Screen them all!” I have never seen this side of Agafia before. She almost sounds like a dragon on the prowl for more gold. “We must have them in our team, if they are like you.”

“More people than just Daniel’s family will be shamans on Earth, but repressed. How about we test them, in big numbers?” Rhea asks. We all turn to stare at her. It is unusual that she makes a suggestion, and it shows. Her cheeks color. Yet, Nahndor reaches out, and takes a hold of her hand, giving her courage. His glare also helped keep us all silent, so she can say her peace. “We can make a reality show format? Lower the shields on Earth for just a little while. People are ready to do anything, for their fifteen minutes of fame.”

“And we won’t actually film anything,” Agafia says, tapping her nose. “I mean, we can film the whole thing like this Survivor TV show, which is so popular. On a deserted island, I mean.”

“That will take more funding,” Nahndor says, but one look from Rhea, and he is all smiles. “But we are lucky that Constantine’s new grandmother is such a big shot.”

“Think about it,” Agafia says, as I waver. I just got to know Thea. I feel bad about asking her for money.

And this won’t be twenty scales, which I will return next Sunday. But a lot more, probably never to be returned.

I nod, and busy myself with my report. Still, the stares of my coworkers follow me, as I begin to type. Only Daniel is frowning at this turn of events. I can’t help but love him even more because of that.
