Chapter 76:

Epilogue

Constantine:

So, bottling happiness. I think we started with it, did we not? I can tell you something, after such a big pause from the forum, I wonder how many of you remember me. There are many things that happened, after Daniel came to live with me. But the most important one is, that today, the two of us are getting married!

“Why are you doing human baiting on such a special day?” My mom asks. I chuckle uncomfortably at that, knowing I have been caught.

“They are friends, mom,” I say. She slithers next to me, and looks into the screen.

“You call a killyourself89, and someone called a moosyMcmoose friends?” It appears that she is ready to question everything about me. From my choice in forums, to my choice in conversation partners.

“They are both fun and snarky. Besides, it is not like they believe me. The two also follow the blog of a vampire,” I say, as my mother shakes her head.

“Vampires aren’t real, Tine,” she says in a drawl. I am just about to protest, when she just hands me my suit jacket. “Get dressed already. We have to be in the temple in half an hour.”

I nod, and log off the forum. After we get down from my room, I see my dad on the couch, speaking with Rodger.

“Is this what you are going to wear?” Rodger asks. I look down at my white suit.

“What is wrong with it?” I ask. I have red hair; Daniel has brown hair. It just made sense for me to wear the white suit.

“Nothing, you just look like a bride, is all,” he says, and I just shrug. I meant it, when I told Daniel that the people of the Cosmos don’t put that big of a deal behind gender roles. At least, I don’t.

“Well, are we going?” I ask.

“I have something for you,” my father says, as he stands up. He takes out his wristwatch, the very same that has been in our family since Atlantis, and holds it out to me. “Tony told me this used to be his, can you believe it? We are an old family, we are.”

“But, that is your watch,” I say. My father shakes his head.

“In our family, there is a tradition to pass on this watch to the first child of ours, who gets married. You are our only child, Tine. Today is the day that the countdown for you starts. A countdown that will hit zero, when your own son or daughter comes down a flight of stairs all dressed up, and ushering you to a temple,” dad winks at me, and puts the watch on my wrist. I take a hold of his shoulder, and give it a light squeeze.

“You are a great dad, you know that, right?” I ask him.

“Go on. A little flattery never killed anyone,” he says, and my mom moves in to my own line of sight.

“And you are the best mother out there, mom,” I tell her, and she kisses my cheek.

“Well, I have to go. I need to be there by Dany’s side, when you slither down the aisle,” Rodger says, getting up. He gets in my teleport, which someone has turned from a coffee table back into a capsule, and he is gone in the blink of an eye.

“We could,” I begin. A part of me doesn’t want to wait for the short ride to the temple, and wants to see Daniel right in this instant.

“Don’t you dare! You will wrinkle your suit,” mom says, as she takes a hold of my elbow.

It didn’t take us thirty minutes, but twenty, to get to the temple. We wait outside, for the music to start. The place is packed, and we even rented the meeting hall of Mirstone for the reception. The entire town is invited. Not that this is many guests, considering that Mirstone has only 1,500 people in it. But still, no one got left out.

The music starts, and my mother grips my elbow slightly harder. She will be there with me, while I enter the temple. We will slither together to the altar, and she will be the one to give me away.

This is usually reserved for people who don’t have fathers. But, seeing as I am marrying a man, I figured that it would be a nice touch, to be given away by my mother. Dad knows just how much this means to mom, so he didn’t argue.

We enter the temple, when the doors open. I notice familiar faces in the crowd. Ms. Parsons is here, with her grandson. She has been bringing him to meet Nathaniel for months now, but Nate has always tried to get away with meeting him. Maybe it is because, in Naga years, Dave is just a teenager?

Beth waves at me, one of her hands in Noah’s hands. The little boy was a little put off because he didn’t get to be the ring bearer, but he got over it. That happened when he found out he couldn’t be a ring bearer, and be next to Beth, at the same time. The honor went to Nathaniel instead. I wave at the children, and nod at their parents.

I can see Nahndor and Rhea with pouches in their hands, and I wink at them. They are so going to turn my hair into a rice field, but that is ok. I will return the gesture at their wedding.

Then, I see him. Standing proud, in the very center, right before the altar, is a vision of a man. With his salt and pepper hair, his caramel eyes illuminated by the soft glow of the candles, and looking sharp in his black suit with his red tie, Daniel is almost too good of a sight for my eyes.

Yet, I notice the problem straight away. His tie is not tied properly. I rush to him, almost leaving my mother behind. When I get to him, my hands go to his tie, and I fix it for him. When I am done, I pat his chest a couple of times, and then look him straight in the eyes.

“I should really teach you how to tie a tie,” I tell him, and he is reduced to a giggling fit.
