"Wang Shao?!" Li Yifei and the other two exclaimed in unison upon hearing the familiar voice.

The three exchanged glances and swiftly ran towards the narrow alley where Wang Shao had left.

Lin Qiyue stood alone in place, frowning as he gazed into the dimly lit alley, his expression somewhat serious.

Though unsure of what had occurred, a foreboding feeling lingered in his heart.

In the outskirts of the old city, a psychopathic murderer, eerie stench, and screams...

Something was amiss.

After hesitating for a while, Lin Qiyue, resigned, sighed and picked up his white cane, heading towards the alley.

Under normal circumstances, Lin Qiyue would never get involved in such situations. He would rather run in the opposite direction as far as possible.

If someone was screaming, it definitely meant trouble.

Trouble meant danger.

Robbery, murder, or witnessing a crime scene... any of these, Lin Qiyue preferred not to be associated with.

He lacked a strong curiosity and had no desire to know what had happened. Neither did he possess an overflowing sense of sympathy to play the hero.

Most importantly, he couldn't fight. What if he ended up losing his life?

However, the current situation was somewhat different.

Though Lin Qiyue didn't want to admit it, Wang Shao's danger was somehow linked to him.

If they hadn't voluntarily escorted Lin Qiyue home, perhaps Wang Shao would have taken another route or returned a few minutes earlier, avoiding this situation altogether.

He genuinely disliked meddling in other people's affairs, but he disliked owing favors even more.

Regardless, he felt compelled to at least find out what had happened, a gesture of goodwill. If he encountered any danger, he could always make a quick escape.

Lin Qiyue, blindfolded, moved with surprising speed. As he approached the source of the screams, his brows furrowed tighter.

The stench grew stronger.

"Ah, ah, ah, ah!!!"

A second scream echoed from around the corner, this time a female voice.

Jiang Qian!

Lin Qiyue abruptly stopped at the corner of the alley, his senses detecting the figures of Jiang Qian and two others not far ahead.

In front of him, Jiang Qian was cowering on the ground, gaping at something with fear. Liu Yuan and Li Yifei, not far away, were similarly frozen, their eyes fixed on the same direction, trembling.

Further away... Lin Qiyue couldn't perceive.

He couldn't open his eyes, and his range of spiritual perception was limited to ten meters. An awkward situation unfolded where, within ten meters, he could see everything, but beyond that, he was truly blind.

What had they seen that terrified them so?

Although visually impaired, Lin Qiyue's hearing was sharp. He could clearly hear faint rustling sounds nearby, as if someone were gnawing on something vigorously and with relish.

Hmm... it sounded like Black Lai chewing on bones.

"What happened?" Lin Qiyue asked in a hushed tone.

Jiang Qian seemed startled by Lin Qiyue's presence. She nervously grabbed his clothes and shivered, her teeth chattering.

"Monster... a monster is gnawing on Wang Shao's face!"

Lin Qiyue's expression instantly changed.

"Run!"

Lin Qiyue and Li Yifei shouted simultaneously.

As soon as the word was uttered, Liu Yuan, like a mad dog, abruptly turned and sprinted back, colliding with Lin Qiyue's shoulder. After a stumble, he quickly got up and dashed away, screaming at the top of his lungs.

"Monster! Help! Someone, help! Monster!" He ran, shouting loudly.

Lin Qiyue was caught off guard by the collision, staggering. Just as he steadied himself, a dull thud came from a distance.

It sounded like a brown bear pounding the ground, charging towards him.

Jiang Qian's pupils contracted, finding strength from somewhere as she swiftly got up from the ground, screaming as she ran away.

As for Li Yifei... he had already run away after shouting "Run," faster than Liu Yuan who had pushed Lin Qiyue.

In this moment, it seemed like everyone had forgotten Lin Qiyue's "disabled" status. The classmates who had vowed to escort him home had completely left him behind.

Well, not entirely behind, considering Liu Yuan had just collided with him.

Lin Qiyue sneered inwardly.

But he had no time to dwell on these matters. Just as he took a few steps, something entered his spiritual perception range within ten meters.

It looked like a person, yet not quite like one.

To say it resembled a person was because it had four limbs and a head. To say it didn't was because it moved like a wild dog, using all fours to run on the ground, with a physique resembling that of a brown bear!

Most importantly, a ghostly face grew from its head.

Pale and contorted.

Its long and crimson tongue, like a snake, extended half a meter from its mouth, twisting agilely.

Lin Qiyue's expression instantly turned grim.

It was too fast. In a few steps, it had leaped from beyond ten meters to within his spiritual perception range, and it was rapidly closing in on him!

Lin Qiyue believed that even the world sprinting champion couldn't outrun it.

Calculating the distance from here to the end of the alley, Lin Qiyue's heart sank.

Given the speed difference between him and the monster, he couldn't run out of this alley without being caught.

Was there any other way?

Lin Qiyue's brain spun rapidly, sensing everything around him, trying to find something to block the pursuing monster.

Suddenly, his spiritual power focused on the backpack behind Jiang Qian.

"Throw the backpack at it! Delay it!" Lin Qiyue yelled.

Jiang Qian, standing beside Lin Qiyue, shook all over. A cold glint flashed in her eyes as she screamed and yanked the backpack off her shoulders.

She hurled it towards Lin Qiyue.

Lin Qiyue's pupils contracted!

He never expected Jiang Qian to turn on him!

When Lin Qiyue realized it, the backpack had already slammed heavily into his chest!

Through spiritual perception, Lin Qiyue could clearly see Jiang Qian's expression.

She was extremely pale, like a startled rabbit, her face filled with fear. Yet, her eyes revealed an unprecedented determination!

"You're Lin Qiyue, right? Your seat is ready, over there..."

"Lin Qiyue, I'm Jiang Qian, the class monitor. If you need anything..."

"Most impressive was your aunt that day. She stood here with a basket of eggs, giving each of us an egg, asking us to take care of you..."

"We promised your aunt to take good care of you, and we will do it..."

"..."

At this moment, the once shy and kind class monitor seemed to transform into a hysterical demon!

She stared at Lin Qiyue with guilt, madness, and malice in her eyes.

Yes, I am the class monitor;

Yes, I promised to help you in the future;

Yes, I promised your aunt to take care of you;

I can teach you, take you home, cook for you... all of that is

fine!

But now...

I want to live.

So,

Please die.

At this moment, time seemed to stand still. Lin Qiyue gazed at Jiang Qian, his eyes as cold and deep as the night.

Throwing a backpack wouldn't hinder the monster for more than a few seconds, but if she threw a person down...

The chances of surviving would be greater.

This was Jiang Qian's choice.

The backpack wasn't heavy, and its kinetic energy wasn't significant. However, caught off guard, it slammed into Lin Qiyue's chest.

Behind him, the rapidly approaching monster leaped into the air, pouncing towards the fallen Lin Qiyue.

In an instant, Lin Qiyue smiled.

A cold smile.

As if he had eyes on the back of his head, he anticipated the monster's trajectory, swiftly crouching down to avoid its pounce with precision!

Simultaneously, the white cane he had been holding in his hand swept forward like lightning, the tip striking Jiang Qian's ankle!

Jiang Qian exclaimed, losing balance and falling to the ground.

A heavy black shadow descended abruptly, crashing onto her...

The next moment, blood dyed the night a vivid crimson.
