"Are you expecting someone?"

They both looked in the direction of the door but none of them stood up to open it.

"Should we call the police?"

"And what should we tell 911? Hey, someone is buzzing our door and we don't know who it is because we didn't bother to get up from the couch to check it out," she said in sarcasm.

"Tch, smart ass. Let's go together," he said but didn't get up.

"What are we doing, Luke? Why are we whispering and worrying about a buzzer?" She laughed nervously at the foolish nervousness of Luke.

"I'm also asking myself that," he whispered.

Jess grabbed the decorative pillow on the armchair and hit Luke on the face with it.

"Stop it. It's not funny at all." She stomped her feet and went to get the door. "Stupid." She muttered under her breath.

Pressing the screen panel on the right side of her door, she heaved a deep sigh. She has never felt the need to check her camera outside her door since she moved into this apartment.  She remembered Noah nag her about it before.

She does not typically check her door before opening it as she trusts the security of the building. The efficient security measures of the management were one of the reasons she moved into this building.

Also, it has been ages since she received a threat.

Now, she has to live her life looking over her shoulder. She hoped the people Ellise employed would be able to find the assholes who sent her the threat. Constantly checking your back can be exhausting.

She saw two men standing outside her door. The young man was wearing a light blue polo shirt with the well-known logo of a flower shop. He is holding a bouquet of roses in his hands.

She recognizes the other man quite well. He is wearing the building's security uniform. He is one of the security officers who patrol her floor.

Seeing her floor security, she felt safe opening her door.

"Good afternoon, Miss Zimmerman. We have a delivery for you." he opened his hand towards the man holding a bouquet of roses.

"Good day, Miss! We have beautiful flowers for you from Mr. Tiefenbacher. Would you like to accept these flowers?"

Her face heats up as she sees the security guard out of the corner of her eye, flinches when the delivery boy says Noah's name. It is well known to the building security that Mr. Tiefenbacher is her neighbor.

Feeling utterly embarrassed, she accepted the bouquet of flowers, signed the delivery receipt, and bid the young man goodbye.

She nodded at the security personnel and quickly closed her door in front of them.

"What was it?"

She was startled by Luke's question. "Uhm, Noah sent some flowers," she replied, biting her lower lip.

"It looks lovely but I now have trauma with a bouquet of flowers," he commented with a sneer.

She turned around and yanked her main door and peek her head in the hallway, "Felix!" she called the name of the floor security.

From the blind corner of the floor leading to Noah's apartment, the man replied, "Yes, Miss Zimmerman."

She waited for the man to show himself. She did not wait long for Felix to come out from the corner within a minute.

"Please make it clear to the building management that from now on, I do not want anyone but myself and Mr. Raveport to enter my floor," she waited for Felix to acknowledge her request before she continued, "...also, I want all my deliveries to be checked at the concierge desk in the main lobby before they are delivered here."

"Duly noted, Miss Zimmerman."

"Thank you, Felix," she replied politely before closing the door behind her once again.

"How and where should I record my voice for the added security measures?" Hearing Jess gave out a request to her building security, Luke felt the necessity of being extra cautious.

"Hmm," she replied with her eyes glued to the bouquet of coral roses in her arms. A smile was playing at the corner of her lips, completely ignoring Luke's important question.

"Hello, Jessica!"

His questions and calls fell into deaf ears. Little Miss Jessie stared at the flowers on her arms as if it were the first time she had received one.

He clicked his tongue at her. He should have given her the bouquet with the bloody card, then she wouldn't look like a dumb lovestruck teenager as she does right now.

"Just record it in a quiet environment, then email it to me so I can save it in the security system. Make sure to also give me the recorded greetings reply," she said, placing the bouquet of flowers gently on the dining room table.

"Okay, copy. "I'm going to record two now," he said, rolling his eyes at Jess who was arranging the flowers in the vase.

He went to his room and was amazed to find it still clean and arranged the way he likes it. A warm feeling overtook his irritation that Jess ignored him just because she received some flowers from Noah.

Meanwhile, in the dining room, Jess was still over the moon. She carefully arranged the flower in the crystal vase and brought it to her bedroom.

She placed the flower vase on her study table so that she could gaze at it as she lay in bed. She decided to take a photo of it for the shadow of the afternoon sun gave it such a dreamy feeling.

'Coral roses signify enthusiasm and desires.'

When she shared the picture on WeChat Memories, she was grinning to herself. Her friends sent her messages not long after she posted the photo, just as she had expected.

Dana sent a single word 'what' but with enough exclamation marks to break someone's eardrums if it wasn't just a text message while Ellise sent an emoji of a girl rolling her eyes.

She received a third message from someone she didn't expect. The message read, [I helped Papa choose those flowers.]
