"And you let Nicole get Lucille?" Jess couldn't help but furrow her eyebrows. How could Noah give his ex-wife full custody of Lucille after what happened.

He gave her a small smile. "When I said that, I drank a little. It was actually really bad. Even after Jin told me that Nicole picked up Lucille at her school and moved to a different house. I didn't do anything. And there wasn't a day that I wasn't intoxicated."

Seeing the guilt crossed Noah's eyes. Jess's heart melted and grabbed his hands. "But you understand that what happened with you and your ex-wife can't be used as an excuse for what you did with me.."

Noah nodded like a boy that got called out for his mistake. "I know. Believe me, I know." He brought her hands to his lips and kissed the back of her hands. "I know. I'm so sorry, baby."

Jess sighed. "I'm curious why you let Nicole get full custody of Lucille." She still couldn't believe that Noah let his ex-wife have full custody of their daughter.

"Nicole sent her lawyers, with documents showing how I'm not capable of being a father to our daughter because of my alcohol problem. She was ready to drag Lucille into our divorce and it was something I can't allow to happen." He squeezed Jess's hands and averted his gaze. "At that time, I thought I was doing the best for Lucille...I still believe it was all for Lucille's sake but of course, there are times that I regretted and questioned my own decision to have Nicole the full custody of Lucille. But even when I was barely functioning because of alcohol, I don't want Lucille to know what happened between me and her mother. I sent Nicole and Lucille away.

You see, I know to myself that I'm not gonna win the best husband awards, and somehow I felt responsible for how Nicole turned out to be. But the biggest reason why I let her have full custody of Lucille was, I know I needed help. And also because Nicole was... is a bitch but she's Lucille's mother and her flaws were with me, not to our kid. She's a good mother."

Jess clicked her tongue inwardly. She felt annoyed that despite everything Noah still doesn't say anything really negative to his ex-wife. A pang of jealousy slowly crept into Jess's heart. But she kept her tone and expression neutral. She's not a part of Noah and Nicole's life. She has no right to put her nose into their personal business.

"How about now? Lucille will be staying with you."

"Yes. She will." For the first time, a smile spread across Noah's face. "Nicole will be doing some research in Switzerland and she doesn't want to take Lucille with her because she would be busy. Thus, she decided to let me have Lucille while she's in Switzerland."

The excitement in Noah's voice was contagious if only he didn't sound so proud of Nicole's decision to let him have their kid while she's away.

Jess grimaced with the emotions that were swirling in her chest. If she's not trying to keep her mouth shut and trying to keep herself in check. She would have blurted out that letting him have their kid wasn't something that he should be thankful to his ex-wife. He has every right to be with their kid.

But it's a family problem. And she is no one but an outsider. She just felt that it was so unfair for Noah not to have fair custody with his daughter.

"It's fine. Now, the situation is different from what it was before. I was actually ready to battle Nicole to get half custody with Lucille if she chose to bring her to Switzerland. But, I'm glad she didn't. I still don't want Lucille to be dragged with our shits. She doesn't deserve to have shitty parents." Noah said as if reading what was on her mind.

She smiled. She has nothing left to say. She's just glad that Noah will be with his daughter.

And because she didn't say anything more. An awkward silence ensued between the two of them, yet when Noah pulled her closer, she let him. She rested her chin on his shoulder and fell into deep thoughts.

She meant what she said a while ago. What Noah did couldn't be an excuse for how his ex-wife betrayed him. Yes, she understands that he has some trust issues because of what his ex-wife did, but just like she can't freely give her opinion about Nicole and his choices because she wasn't part of it. It's also unjust for Noah to distrust her just because of what his ex-wife did.

But now, she's too tired to be angry at him. And to be honest, she's not really angry at Noah. A part of her understood him and a bigger part was just in love with him, she could let things go.

Well, not exactly let things go. She was still mad at him. But she's not going to be angry at him forever. That's for sure.

"Baby," he softly called her as he rubbed her back.

"Hmm, why?" She mumbled. Her thoughts were disrupted when he called her.

"I'm sorry and I promise to make things right." He continued rubbing her softly and pressed a kiss on the side of her head.

"Hmmm...if you wanted to make things right. Can you tell me about what happened to us at the Midland hotel?" She said in a small voice. She lifted her chin from Noah's shoulder and pushed his chest away. She was scared that Noah would hear the wild thumping of her heart.

"Midland hotel? Oh, you mean the first time we met?" He chuckled lightly.

With the way Noah was acting, Jess has a sinking feeling that she won't get the answer she wanted to what really happened that night.
