Despite the fact that Dudu still felt vexed inside, he didn’t want He Han to leave at all. Ye Fan lowered her head and placed a kiss on Dudu’s cheek.
“Let Papa hold Dudu now, alright? Papa will coax Dudu to sleep.” Ye Fan tried to get Dudu to comply.
After a few seconds, Dudu shook his head. Ye Fan asked tentatively again, “Then, should Mama sleep with Dudu tonight?”
Dudu did not answer that either. He just rubbed his head against Ye Fan’s neck.
Ye Fan, “Then Mama and Papa will coax Dudu together, alright?”
Only then did Dudu nod his head, agreeing to Ye Fan’s suggestion. Holding Dudu, Ye Fan stood up from the closet. Still, Dudu was holding onto He Han’s finger, refusing to let go.
He did not think of going against Dudu’s wishes either. So, maintaining such a posture, they walked into the bathroom.
“Can you help me wring a warm towel?” Ye Fan was holding Dudu and unable to free her hands, but He Han had one of his hands caught by Dudu as well.
Grabbing a basin with one hand, he fetched some warm water and put the towel in.
He touched Dudu’s head. “Let me help Dudu wipe his face, okay?” When he heard He Han’s words, Dudu slowly let go of his finger.
He Han wrung the towel dry and carefully wiped Dudu’s tear-streaked face. He had never done such a thing before, so his actions were very careful.
For both Ye Fan and He Han, this was a completely new experience. But they will feel their way forward together and take good care of Dudu.
Dudu tilted his face cooperatively so that He Han can help him clean it. As soon as the towel was removed, he immediately buried his face back into Ye Fan’s neck.
Ye Fan carried Dudu to the crib while He Han went around the other side, taking the initiative to take Dudu’s small hand.
Dudu’s other hand was holding Ye Fan tightly. Still upset, his eyes were tightly closed and he was unwilling to open them, but his grip remained strong.
He Han and Ye Fan opened their mouths at the same time.
“Good night, Dudu.”
According to Ye Fan’s usual practice with Dudu, both of them would say good night to each other. Eyes closed, Dudu turned his head in Ye Fan’s direction. “Good night, Mama.”
After a while, Dudu moved his head a little towards He Han’s direction.
“Good night, hmhm.” The last two words came from Dudu’s nose. He had deliberately blurred He Han’s name, making two humming sounds instead.
Dudu’s eyes were tightly shut, but his lashes were quivering faintly. He was clearly still upset and was unwilling to call He Han “Papa” immediately.
But a smile surfaced under He Han’s eyes. “Good night, my Dudu.”
Dudu was already exhausted from crying. Plus the fact that being able to hold onto both He Han and Ye Fan’s hands at the same time gave him a sense of security, his breathing soon calmed and he gradually fell asleep.
The moment before he fell asleep, Dudu thought in his heart that even though both Papa and Mama kept this fact from him for so long, he still liked them very much.
Right now, he was probably the happiest child in the world.
With the three of them together, even the nights became more peaceful.
Both He Han and Dudu were asleep in her room, but Ye Fan went out.
After cleaning up the living room, she brought out a fresh blanket. By the time she lay down on the bed, it was already late into the night.
Curtains undrawn, the cold moonlight shone through the windows.
Under the dark tones, the entire room looked even colder. Ye Fan did not fall asleep. Raising her eyes and looking at the bright moon outside, it felt like the only light in this darkness.
Somehow, her memories suddenly drifted away, and a scene flashed before Ye Fan’s eyes.
She suddenly thought back to her previous life.
Ten years have passed since that great change in Ye Fan’s life.
When she was in junior high, there was an accident in the family which caused the death of both of Ye Fan’s parents. The Ye family’s business was divided up among the closest relatives. A few months later, her grandmother could not endure the mental torment of the loss and passed away due to illness.
Only Ye Fan was left alone.
