DPM Chapter 45-Ambiguous Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

Ye Fan hurriedly ran out, finding Wu Xingyun sitting on the steps of the basketball court in the yard.

Wu Xingyun’s back looked lonesome in the darkness. The white mist had come again, shrouding him like smoke.

Ye Fan walked over lightly and sat beside Wu Xingyun. Ye Fan was worried that Wu Xingyun would act disgusted, but Wu Xingyun just raised his head a little, staring up at the indistinct sky.

Following Wu Xingyun’s gaze, Ye Fan saw nothing, just the fog that enveloped everything.

Originally, Ye Fan had wanted to explain, or cover for himself. Now he thought saying nothing would be the wisest choice.

Sitting quietly with Wu Xingyun, Ye Fan’s heart couldn’t help being uneasy. Soon he located an abandoned basketball in the corner of the court.

Ye Fan stood up and got the basketball, patting it twice to check its air.

“Yun, want to come and play?” Ye Fan shouted over.

Wu Xingyun told him: “You play, I’ll watch.”

Ye Fan started shooting hoops, first lay-ups, then working his way out to the three-point line.

He made almost every shot.

Courtside, Wu Xingyun observed the fuzzy shadow in the mist.

It felt like when he’d been a newlywed back on Yuanxing. He’d been horribly homesick, missing Wen Nuo, Marshal Shi Fei, the army, and so on.

At that time, there’d been a lot of people around Wu Xingyun, including some of his dowry team, yet he was always lonely.

Now, in this strange time and place, only Ye Fan was by his side.

No Federation. No Demon Army. Just an ordinary high school graduate and a soldier.

A simple relationship, without apprehensions.

Wu Xingyun discovered, even if Ye Fan did make that kind of attempt, he wasn’t angry.

Maybe because Ye Fan was the only person Wu Xingyun knew here.

Or maybe……It was because Mozun had already done more excessive things.

The shadow in the dense fog ran back to Wu Xingyun, stomping his feet and saying: “It’s so cold. Why did it suddenly get so cold?”

Wu Xingyun felt it too. The temperature had shifted, a chill pressing down.

“Let’s go back and rest,” said Ye Fan. “I don’t know how cold it’ll get tonight, will we……Burn the table to keep warm?”

Wu Xingyun could see the puff of Ye Fan’s exhalations in the air. This was the Earth’s summer, shouldn’t August be the hottest time?!

Unusual things were happening. Wu Xingyun told Ye Fan: “We won’t burn a fire, or turn on the lights. We need to be wary.”

Ye Fan immediately understand what Wu Xingyun was getting at. The odd climate meant—something must have changed.

Finding a suitable car, they loaded it with the ammunition, guns, and some dried food they’d found. Making sure the tank was full, they parked the car in front of their door. In case of an emergency, they needed to be able to leave at a moment’s notice.

Shivering, they entered the room and closed the door behind them. It became a little warmer, Wu Xingyun adding another blanket to the beds. Still, it was very cold.

Wu Xingyun wanted to watch the news again, only to find the signal gone again. Who knew what was going on?

They were both deeply regretting losing the fur and extra blankets in the rats’ tunnel. Even after raiding the entire barracks, they only had four quilts.

“This night isn’t normal. Let’s take turns keeping watch,” Wu Xingyun said.

Ye Fan countered: “No, I can sense stuff even when I sleep!”

Wu Xingyun shook his head. “After a rest, we’ll go to the provincial capital. The fighting skills I taught you should be enough. I’ll be driving, so you keep first watch.”

“Alright.” Ye Fan agreed.

Wu Xingyun went to sleep. Midway through, the biting cold disturbed him, but he soon felt warm again.

When he woke up later in the night, he found Ye Fan huddled in a corner, shivering from head to toe.

Of Ye Fan’s two blankets, only a thin one was wrapped around him, while the second was atop Wu Xingyun.

Looking towards the window, Wu Xingyun saw a layer of condensation on the pane, yet outside was white, faint light reflecting into the room.

Wu Xingyun turned over, and by the window’s weak rays, watched as Ye Fan opened his eyes.

They looked at each other. Wu Xingyun could hear the slight sound of snowfall outside.

In spite of everything, there was snow in summer.

Wanting to speak, but not knowing how to say it, Wu Xingyun simply threw the third blanket back to Ye Fan.

Ye Fan threw it back again.

As soon as Wu Xingyun opened his mouth to speak, Ye Fan said: “I’m not trying to show off……I, since I got bitten, you know I’m disease resistant……I can handle it.”

Wu Xingyun felt sullen, not replying. Already the situation had reversed, and Wu Xingyun had become the object of care.

Observing Ye Fan for a while, Wu Xingyun finally moved his body to one side and lifted up his blankets: “You’re not afraid of the cold? Come here.”

Ye Fan shook his head. Lazily ignoring him, Wu Xingyun lay back down to continue sleeping.

Then he heard Ye Fan say: “You……You saw it……”

“What?” Wu Xingyun stared blankly at Ye Fan.

“Otherwise you wouldn’t have gone out without packing up the medicine……” Ye Fan continued.

The room went silent. Wu Xingyun knew what Ye Fan was talking about, and it was obvious why Ye Fan would rather freeze than come over.

Wu Xingyun turned over again, his back to Ye Fan, his heart unhappy.

Old things from the past started making their way through Wu Xingyun’s baffled mind.

The wedding night, pressed against the door and forcibly kissed……Well, that had been Mozun’s dying revenge.

Being pushed down during that quarrel……Mozun had understandably been angry.

But that last time……Wu Xingyun’s clothes were nearly stripped off, his mouth bitten till it bleed. Faint scars remained on his lips even now.
