DPM Chapter 72-Night Shard
Translated by Snowfall77

Of course Ye Fan had wanted to show off his new skills to his lover, expecting to get praise and encouragement. But Wu Xingyun didn’t say anything. His face grew rather depressed instead.

“Yun, you don’t like it?” Ye Fan asked.

“Your toy has radiation, doesn’t it?” Wu Xingyun asked in turn.

Ye Fan shook his head, thought for a moment and nodded his head, only to then shake his head again. “I don’t know.”

Wu Xingyun was unquestioningly confident: “It definitely does! I’m one hundred percent certain the radiation is very strong……” Sure his head was starting to hurt, and his skin about to drop off, Wu Xingyun begin patting himself all over, yet oddly his skin was still in one piece. Probably, it wasn’t that it wouldn’t peel off, it just needed a little more time.

No matter the darkness, Ye Fan could clearly see what Wu Xingyun was doing. Arching his eyebrows, Ye Fan inquired: “Are you anxious about your skin coming off? Like the last time?”

“No……No, I’m not.” Wu Xingyun answered, catching by Ye Fan’s tone that the mutant was up to no good.

Too late. Wu Xingyun was pulled by Ye Fan, and two big hands went groping into Wu Xingyun’s shirt collar. Ye Fan’s voice turned low and dishonest: “Let me examine it for you, I’ll be very careful.”

“Isn’t it early morning? Don’t you have to go give the holy water?”

“There’s still an hour. That’s enough time to help you check……”

“No……No, it’s not needed.”

“It’s needed.”

After that there were sounds of resistance and struggle, the slide of zippers being pulled, the soft rustling of clothes falling, and the rhythm of ‘papapa,’ accompanied by gasping breaths.

An hour later, having had his wished-for delicious breakfast, Ye Fan set off to his destination.

His footsteps were lighter than ever before. His hearing, his sense of smell, his sense of touch, all were unprecedently sharper.

If he wanted, even as far as the Furong gardens, Ye Fan could hear Wu Xingyun’s breathing and heartbeat in the sewer.

And, after he’d distributed the holy water, Ye Fan’s power was confirmed.

When he’d entered the park, he used stealth. When he left, he swaggered.

Many people were circled outside, some standing by Ye Fan’s side, others unaccepting of his newly acquired authority.

Everybody gathered was making a great racket, putting their hands on each other, and all in all creating a straight-up mess. Slowly rising until he was in midair, Ye Fan’s whole body was enveloped in a red, crackling electric light.

The crowd became stupified. They’d never witnessed such a dreadful ability before, like something out of a dark fantastical science fiction novel.

Ye Fan’s eyes fell on a big tree fifty meters from him. About ten people stood around the tree and watched in mystification as the tree was leisurely uprooted by some incorporeal means. Hundreds of feet of roots withdrew from the soil, and then with an ominous boom, the tree shattered in the sky.

Already putting to use the practices from the strange book, Ye Fan found his spiritual strength was indeed powerful. He was somewhat regretful though.

Originally, he’d planned to make the tree uprooting stunning and beautiful. Make the tree fly in the air before returning it to its spot. However, his control over his new abilities was still lacking, and the tree had blown up halfway through the demonstration.
Even so, his scene sufficiently stunned everyone.

Objections ceased. They’d been thoroughly convinced.

The expressions on their faces were like they were looking at a deity, brimming with awe, veneration, and idolization.

Ye Fan’s tone remained serene: “As I said, tomorrow is the last day. If you wish to leave, I won’t detain you. But whoever chooses to stay is my friend.”

Having said that, Ye Fan showed them his back and left.

No one dared to step forward and obstruct Ye Fan. Even more so, no one was willing to contest his leadership.

Humanity was an odd species. When a person rose just a bit higher, onlookers would be jealous and unconvinced. Yet when the growth was too great, and someone reached a completely different level, all that persisted was admiration and adoration. Not envy.

That same day, Ye Fan no longer needed to hide himself in the sewers. Bringing Wu Xingyun with him, he intended to go back to their place. However, as they approached, someone took upon themselves to step forward, saying: “Boss, we’ve already cleaned your new residence for you.”

Seeing that they were trying to guide him back to the park, Ye Fan shook his head: “I don’t like that place. It’s too big, and it takes too much manpower to maintain, particularly in these last days.”

The past two days, owing to the sudden upheaval, the plants of the gardens had already overrun the temple, the cement floors overturned. Having it kept up as a residence would be extremely wasteful.

“I’ll stay in my former place,” Ye Fan said.

There was no ventured dissent.

Ye Fan turned his head to Wu Xingyun: “Is it good with you?”

Wu Xingyun answered: “I have a little trouble sleeping, can we get a bunk bed?”

“Is there a bunk bed?” Ye Fan asked.

Ten minutes later, their room was outfitted with a bunk bed. An exceptionally ordinary room, almost identical to their old basement room on the base.

The next morning, Ye Fan stepped into the main temple hall for the final time.

Usurped by luxurious plant life, it was no longer suitable for habitation.

Ye Fan had originally assumed that many people would leave, but to his surprise, not only had people not left, there even a few new mutants seeking shelter.

“All of you have had time to think it over. If you don’t leave now, it means you recognize my leadership, and I do have rules.”

The rules weren’t complicated, still Ye Fan made sure to be explicit. Murder was prohibited, between mutants and anyone else. Any food procured was to be shared with the group.

When Ye Fan had finished, one of Wang Ruoxu’s old subordinates, who’d quickly switched his allegiance to Ye Fan, inquired: “Boss, other mutant chiefs have a code name, will you……Have a code name too?”

“Code name?” Ye Fan mulled it over for a moment. “Alright, let me think about it.”

At that time, people weren’t overly familiar with Ye Fan, and therefore didn’t know what to quite make of Ye Fan’s words.

Soon enough though, everyone came to understand that when Ye Fan said “let me think about it,” it meant—things depended on what the lover thought.

In fact, Ye Fan did consult Wu Xingyun about code names that night. Wu Xingyun was sitting cross-legged on the ground, and Ye Fan had one hand around Wu Xingyun’s waist and one hand pressed to Wu Xingyun’s lower abdomen, supposedly to help Wu Xingyun find the position of his dantian (core).

When Ye Fan himself practiced, he felt his dantian had infinite energy, and that he could make breakthroughs with his abilities at full speed. But Wu Xingyun, although trying for a long time, couldn’t feel anything.

Ye Fan’s hand rubbed at Wu Xingyun’s gut, asking: “You don’t feel it?”

Wu Xingyun went: “Mmm.”

“Have you tried here?”

“No.”

“Then……What about here?” Ye Fan’s unruly hand slid down further, immediately discovering that Wu Xingyun was even more restless than himself.

Nibbling on Wu Xingyun’s ear, Ye Fan murmured: “Yun, you can’t have distracting thoughts, hmm……”

“Hands off!” Wu Xingyun was resentful. Being rubbed all over down there, how was a man supposed to not have distracting thoughts?

Ye Fan’s hand quickly released, only for his body to immediately press the soldier down.

The evening’s practice turned into a demon fight. Wu Xingyun was done on the bottom bed until he wanted to cry—if he’d known earlier, he wouldn’t have bothered requesting a bunk bed. He’d only asked so that he could sleep alone properly. But the result was……they were both crammed onto one narrow mattress and could only sleep poorly.

After business was concluded satisfactorily, Ye Fan held Wu Xingyun in his embrace and they continued talking about practicing and code names.

“Yun, what’s a suitable code name for me?” Ye Fan resembled a big obedient dog, gazing at its master with two shiny eyes.

Wu Xingyun didn’t even think about it: “Night Shard. No bullshit.” As soon as the words left his mouth, Wu Xingyun was inwardly astonished—it turned out……it couldn’t be…… He was the one who gave the prestigious title to the fearsome Night Shard? Indeed—hahaha, Wu Xingyun’s grand Night Shard was back!

“Why that?” Ye Fan asked. “It sounds too pretentious, like I’m looking to get beaten up.”

Dissatisfied with Ye Fan’s objection, Wu Xingyun retorted: “Are you scared?”

Hurriedly shaking his head, Ye Fan started placating his other half: “I think this code name is very meaningful, you see, night……Don’t we exist in night all the time? Night Shard, um, of course means shattering the void, the highest state of desirelessness. It’s a little mournful, but powerful. Very good, I like it very much, I love it.”

Feeling contrary and doubtful, Wu Xingyun eyed Ye Fan. The legendary, madly ruthless commander Night Shard was this man beside him? Was it really true?

However, the Night Shard soon answered Wu Xingyun with action.

“Yun, should we try to find your dantian again?”

“No thanks……I’ll find it myself,” Wu Xingyun said, getting up and climbing towards the top bunk, only to be easily pulled back and pressed beneath Ye Fan again.

“What are you doing? Let me sleep.”

“Fucking you.”

“Get lost……Mmm……”

Wu Xingyun could no longer get out half a word. His lips were sealed, his mouth invaded. Ye Fan’s kisses had become extremely skillful and plundering, making a mess of Wu Xingyun.

Then came the deep piercing, the incessant thrusting, and it was no use begging for mercy.

Ten days later, Ye Fan had complete control of the area. He no longer restricted where people could dwell, and as a result, Ye Fan and Wu Xingyun quickly became the only two left in their neighborhood.

“Why did everyone move out so fast?” Wu Xingyun wondered aloud.

Quirking an eyebrow, Ye Fan shot Wu Xingyun a meaningful glance: “Probably because your voice was so big the other night? They were too embarrassed to keep listening……”

Wu Xingyun’s face brightly flushed: “No, just……I sensed a little bit that night, my head ached, that’s all.”

Ye Fan was standing down in the courtyard, Wu Xingyun was on the fifth floor, yet Ye Fan lightly jumped, easily grabbing the handrails, and then stood next to Wu Xingyun. After swiftly stealing a kiss, Ye Fan wrapped Wu Xingyun in his arms, resting their foreheads together, asking softly: “Would you like me to help?”

Wu Xingyun shook his head. He couldn’t find the lower dantian written about in the book, yet he felt a little energy between his eyebrows.

According to Ye Fan, the energy was scarlet when it was released. Wu Xingyun figured that was because he’d been infected by Ye Fan.

Wu Xingyun would attempt to control the energy, but kept finding himself incapable. When he’d touch upon it, his head would hurt like it was about to burst. And since there was no pratice method written in the book, Wu Xingyun could only give it up.

Therefore—it must be that he would die of radiation. Even better, it’d be the kind to make him brainless……
