As Steve was anxious to return to the army, after he sent Elizabeth home, he returned straight to his troop.
However, he was still a day late. According to the rules, he would be punished for his tardiness.
After the ranking battle, the recruits were to train with the veterans, the venue of which would no longer be the original training grounds. Instead, the training would take place at the real military base camp, which was at the junction between the Stanlos Base Camp and the Harbolo Base Camp. This also happened to be the frontline of the battle between the two sides, known as the Man Hani Battlefront.
On both sides of the Man Hani Battlefront, the Magical Beast Mountains towered. The the middle passage between the mountains, which was opened by the powerful being, was also the place where most of the serious fighting took place. At the same time, demon soldiers often sprang out and launched surprise attacks from the Magical Beast Mountains.
The terrain of the Stanlos Base Camp was similar to a U-shaped basin, the protruding parts of which jutting into the mountain ridges. On the other side of the passage was the Demon Camp.
Therefore, the Stanlos Base Camp was a frontline base camp, as the Magical Beast Mountains served as a protection and natural barrier, which isolated the demons from the other side of the mountain, thus ensuring the safety of the Stanlos Base Camp.
But, over the years, the Demon Base Camp had been trying to invade the Stanlos Base Camp. Therefore, the Stanlos Base Camp spent a lot of money to open up three battlefronts in the Magical Beast Mountains, thus allowing their army commanders to drive straight in.
These three battlefronts were extremely important, so were heavily guarded at all times. The three battlefronts not only connected the Magical Beast Mountains, but also encompassed air routes and ground routes. After all, it was necessary to have a full range of access to resist the invasion of the demons.
The Man Hani Battlefront was located in the northern part of the mountain's battlefront. Before Steve arrived at the base camp, he saw the huge Magical Beast Mountain. The mountains in the middle were broken off, as if they had been split in two, revealing a concave road.
In fact, Steve knew that this mountain had indeed been split in two. It was rumored that an ares of the demon clan had cut through the Magical Beast Mountain, creating the present Man Hani Battlefront. Steve had actually seen it with his own eyes, and had felt very shocked at the time.
Before he arrived at the military base camp, Steve was stopped by the soldiers on duty. He then took out his recruit's certificate to prove his identity.
"You are Steve, the recruit who came in at Number 1 and did not report back yesterday?" A veteran soldier took Steve's identification document, looked at him and it for a long time, then returned it. He then said, "I'm soldier number 29856. You can call me Kane."
"Okay, Sir…. Kane, where is the reporting office, please?" Steve inquired.
The recruits belonged to the third class of soldiers. As Kane was a first class soldier, this meant that his rank was higher than Steve's.
"The army does not look at a person's military rank, but at his strength and contribution. So, you don't need to address me as Sir. Let me take you to the reporting counter," Kane said with a laugh.
"Thank you! Soldier Kane!" Steve laughed.
Kane led Steve to the place where the recruits checked in. Because Steve was the last to arrive, he was the only recruit there.
Kane knocked on the door and a voice replied from inside, "Come in!"
Steve opened the door, walked in, and immediately saluted. "Recruit Steve, reporting for duty!"
Though his eyes were looking straight ahead, he was observing this surroundings. In the small conference hall, there were five people, including General Wendy, a woman, and three men, all of whom were lieutenants.
"You are Steve, who didn't report yesterday?" Lieutenant Terry looked at Steve and laughed.
"I am sorry for being late today. I am willing to accept any punishment for this!" Steve responded loudly.
"Ha ha, you're an interesting young man. It is no wonder that you are the Number 1 recruit," Officer Fanny said with a smile.
"Well, we already know the reason that you didn't report," General Wendy said. "You did a good job in destroying Collic's evil plot in the Magical Beast Mountain and calming the upsurge of magical beasts ahead of time, which saved tens of thousands of students and their parents!"
The incident of the Magical Beast Mountain had been widely reported by the media apparently. In fact, Steve was being hailed as a gentleman hero.
Many women, who saw the reports, were moved by such heroics. The army, who was the first to know the situation, had at first thought that Steve was dead. To dispel this myth, Steve had hurried back, expecting to be punished. But he was now being praised instead!
"You did a good job! Soldiers should fight like you to protect mankind!" The tall and magnificent Lieutenant Brown stood up, then laughed and patted Steve on the shoulder.
"Sir, I was simply fulfilling my duty!" Steve responded seriously.
"In order to recognize your deeds, the army will reward you with 1,000 contribution points," Wendy said calmly.
When Kane heard the amount of contribution points, his eyes were wide and filled with envy. After all, it would take numerous missions to earn 1,000 contribution points! Even many veterans earned less than that in an entire year!
"From now on, you are a regular soldier. Please take out your identification document." Lieutenant Brown took Steve's old identification document and added new ones to his smart bracelet, along with the information about the military base camp.
"This is your new identification document. There are also statistics on your contribution and details of the military base camp. Your authority status has also been changed. You can go through the details later on your own time."
Lieutenant Brown then turned to address Kane, instructing, "Soldier Kane, take him back to his new residence."
"Yes, Sir!" Kane said.
Steve did not have time to study the information on the new identification document before he had to follow Kane.
"What are the contribution points for?" Steve asked Kane curiously.
"The contribution points are to encourage and reward the soldiers for protecting the human beings. Every year, our contribution points are fixed at 100 points. Our contribution points can be used to buy many weapons that are not available outside the army, as well as resources for various training needs." Kane explained to Steve as they walked on. "But, the most important use of the contribution points relates to the amount of time one can spend in the Original Gravity Tower."
"The Original Gravity tower? What is that?" Steve asked, puzzled.
