e’ had finally arrived.

But while I felt nothing but joy when I saw him, Trom-Well didn’t seem as pleased. Rather, a strong baleful aura surrounded him.

“… Are you alright, El? I’m sorry I was too late. Locating you took too long. A strong aura was misdirecting my senses, so I couldn’t find you so easily.”

When his gaze turned to Lapis Lazul, his eyes turned murderous. When I saw his gaze, even I who saw him as family, shuddered from fear.

No matter what the Dragon had done, he was badly exhausted and was in no condition to take on Trom-Well. This match was far too unbalanced. So I shook my head as if to refute.

“I’m fine Trom-Well. But before that, why do I feel so much stronger?”

“You seemed to be tired, so transferred some of my aura to you. Can you move? According to my Spirit, it sounded like you were locked inside somewhere but it doesn’t seem like it. Did escaping exhaust your supply of aura?”

“Ah, yes. I was throwing out commands in the Spirit Language. Fortunately, everything went well. The mercenaries must have awoken by now. How was it over there?”
I asked because I was worried that there would be needless problems but Trom-Well reassured me with a smile.

“It’s fine. I told them that you met an acquaintance by chance and that you’ll be back before breakfast ends, so there shouldn’t be any problems.”

“Haa, really? That’s a relief. Then let’s go!”

“Yes, we should.. But wait a moment.”

“ …..? ”

As if he had predicted I would press him to leave, he slowly walked toward Lapis Lazul and stopped once he was in a arm’s length. Then, without warning, he carried out a perfect textbook strike that connected perfectly against the Dragon’s chin.

-Crack!!

With a loud noise, the Dragon flew backwards before I could even react. How could Trom-Well use an attack that could kill monsters with a single blow on a person’s face? Wouldn’t this make the problem worse?

However, Lapis Lazul didn’t seem angry and only rubbed the area that he was hit while solemnly staring back at Trom-Well.

“Think of it as a miracle that I’m ending this here Red Dragon Lapis Lazul. If it was the previous Elqueeness, he would not have allowed you to live a second longer. A contract depends on the Spirits’ will, so you cannot use force. The will of the Spirit King comes first in any contracts. Your actions today have offended every Spirit in existence, and I shall ask your Lord to sentence the most severe punishment for your crimes.”

“ ….. ”

“I thought you were being too calm. To think you would cause such a ruckus like this, think why the previous Elqueeness so adamantly refused to make a contract with you. If you touch El ever again, don’t expect any mercy. You will not receive another chance. I’m holding back because of El, not because of you. Keep that in your heart.”

Even with the appearance of a youth, no one would be able to ignore the steel in Trom-Well’s voice. Lapis Lazul only meekly nodded.

“I understand. I admit that I went too far this time. I lost my mind for a time when I learned that Elqueeness was summoned to this world. I promise that this won’t happen again.”

“When you summoned Elqueeness for the first time, he was already over 17 thousand years old. It’s not like you to lose rationality.”

Seeing that he had admitted his faults, Trom-Well’s face softened. But what did he mean ‘It’s not like you..’

Do they know each other? The mood seemed to have improved somewhat. Then, the conversation quickly heated up.

“Is it really not like of me to do that? I am dragon that is easily swayed by emotions. The reason why I’m like this is because of that arrogant Elqueeness. “

“You should have just given up when you first failed to form a contract. You couldn’t yield your desires and only made matters worse.

Your actions was not something that would work on someone like Elqueenesss. Now you earned the malice of the new generation of Elqueeness as well, just what are your planning to do?”

“Be quiet. You’re only 2000 years older than me so why are you acting so bossy. Don’t lecture me, Trom-Well. There are things I just can’t control. Is it wrong to want something? It’s driving me crazy!”

“…”

This scene was almost like a younger brother complaining to the older sibling. (Although their appearance suggested the opposite.)

How did they go from looking like they would go after each other’s throats to such a mundane bickering?

“Are you guys… acquainted?”

“Hm? Ah, El. To tell you the truth, this runt is my current contractor’s son. I knew him since he was a hatchling.”

“What? Really?”

As I stared in shock, Lapis Lazul who looked like he had eaten a bug continued on.

“Chet. If this is what you plan on saying, just hurry up and leave. Don’t stab at my conscience.”

“Hm, looks like you really have given up. By the way Lapis, what happened to your break? I heard that you took on the appearance of a teen, but your current appearance doesn’t fit the description.”

“I ended it after I learned that Elqueeness came here. I was getting bored and annoyed anyways, so it worked out well for me. Go, I’m heading back to my layer to rest. After a good sleep, the strain in my body would lessen somewhat, I’m sorry about our first meeting Elqueeness.”

As if he had thrown away his old arrogant self, he now seemed like an abandoned child and mumbled bitterly. Shouldn’t he teleport in such a situation? Just where is his lair that he intends to walk?

Trom-Well seemed to have similar thoughts as well.

“Lapis! Your lair is nowhere near here! Are you planning to walk?

As Trom-Well shouted, Lapis looked annoyed but only meekly nodded. Before Trom-Well could say anything else, he casually explained.

“Did you think that imprisoning a Spirit King was easy? Furthermore, because he shattered my spell, I took severe internal damage as well. The vitality of my Dragon Heart is currently empty. In this condition, there is nothing I can do.”

So in the end it was my fault… Just like how it was hard for me to break the formation, he had also received great backlash in the process. Didn’t he also vomit blood as well?

Flustered, I ran to him and grabbed his arm.

“…What are you doing?”

Even though he seemed surprised, he didn’t look displeased. Because he seemed to know his faults, I felt quite satisfied inside. So without any further explanation, I stared the healing.

“【Recover!】 ”

-Shine

“ !! ”

Even though I should have been dissatisfied even if I had beaten him within an inch of his life, I still decided to heal him. The Dragon himself seemed amazed.

Perhaps because he had noticed his body making rapid recoveries, he blinked his eyes, confused on what just had happened.

“Impressive, I had heard that Elqueeness’s healing skills were beyond what anyone could comprehend.”

“Spirit Kings of Water are able to completely heal any injury. The healing ability of Elqueeness is not something that can be compared to the likes of the humans. You better express your gratitude Lapis.”

But that damned Dragon only eyed me carefully and ignored Trom-Well.

“Do you really not want to make a contract with me?”

“What?”

“I admit that I troubled you to the point that it brought harm, but this is just how I live. This is just who I am. If you don’t like the way I express myself, I can change it. Won’t you give me a chance?”

Unlike before when he arrogantly demanded and barked out orders, he actually seemed polite and even….. likeable! The sudden change stole my words as I became clueless on how to respond. I wanted a second opinion, but Trom-Well always insistently stated such problems were only between the Spirit and the Summoner.

“The contract alone isn’t a problem. I also have no intention of letting go of the journey I am on. So even if you call me, I probably won’t answer. Is that still okay with you?”

“Then the contract is meaningless. Unlike my family, I’m not making contracts to brag or assert my status, I only want to be with you….”

Ugh. I felt like I had an itch inside that I wanted to scratch. But I assured myself that this was a lot better than his threats earlier on.

When I hesitated to respond, the Dragon’s face suddenly brightened up as if he had thought of an idea.

“Ah! Then how about I join you? Why don’t I come with you as your companion in your journey? That way, we can be together.”

“Eck… The journey I am on is not as relaxing as you might imagine it to be. Also, I’m not sure how my contractor will react to a new comrade. So that’s….”

“But there’s no other way. You’re saying that you won’t come even when I call you. If you can’t come to me, then the only option I have is to come to you. I’m giving up more things then you know for this.”

True… For a contract between equals, it would be unfair if only one side was overtly living in leisure. Like Lazul, I disliked Isana when I had first met him. In that sense, perhaps this will not be as bad. Also, a dragon in our party would help Isana on his mission.

After pondering on what to do, I finally reached a conclusion.

“Um, Lapis Lazul?”

“Just call me Lapis. Just Lapis is fine.”

“Ah alright, Lapis. Fine, I’ll make that contract. But I have a condition.”

He immediately brightened up when I had agreed to the contract, but instantly became wary when he heard the word ‘condition.’ However, he nodded and decided to hear me out.

“ ……? ”

“1 month. From now on, I’ll give you 1 month to find my contractor and me. You can’t summon me and you can’t request the aid of others either.  You can only use your own strength. If you do, I’ll accept you and let you join as well.”

“ !! Are you being serious? ”

“I don’t lie unless the situation calls for it. If I had no desire to make a contract with you, then I would have just rejected you. I am trying to say that I have no need to lie.”

My blunt comment drew a smile in the Dragon’s lips. As if he was worried I would change my mind, he quickly nodded his head.

“While it might be unheard of, it’s definitely not impossible. You said a month? Fine. Just you wait, I’ll definitely find you. Don’t sing a different song when I find you.”

“I said that I’m not lying. If you fail, forget about begging for another chance.”

As if something was funny, he began to laugh. Looking refreshed, he mumbled under his breath.

“I don’t think there’s anyone in existence that will be able to hate you.”

“What?”

“Nothing, I’m just saying it’s cute. I think I can understand why Trom-Well, who never cares about others, is so concerned about you. Honestly, I was surprised. The rock man came out of nowhere and hit me across the jaw.”

What he had just said was not something I wanted to respond to, so I scoffed and stared silently. I don’t think my mental health will last if I stay with this guy any longer.

Furthermore, I shouldn’t keep the mercenaries waiting.

“Trom-Well, let’s go back. The humans are waiting.”

“Ah, right. I got it. Since everything has concluded smoothly, I’ll forget about what happened today. But if you do anything that harms El, the ending won’t be as peaceful as this one.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

Afterwards, Trom-Well and I constructed a portal spell with the Spirit Language and teleported to a nearby forest. I was worried that they had already left because I was gone for so long, but fortunately, they didn’t seem to have finished their morning meal.

The Champagne Mercenaries who were also in middle of their meal waved their hands as they saw us emerge from the wood.

“Hey El, Matthew! You’re finally here!”

“I’m sorry Iale. Did you wait long?”

“No, it’s fine. But who did you go see? Did you finish your business?”

Seeing how they believed Trom-Well’s lies without a hint of doubt, a guilty conscious gnawed on my heart. They didn’t seem curious on what this business was about either.

But according to the Mercenary Codes, prying onto a person’s personal life was a taboo.

“Did you eat?”

“Yes, I had a light meal along the way; you don’t need to make my portion.”

“Same here.”

“Really? Then the leftovers will go to those pigs. Here, eat!”

Harol and Matey who had just been labeled as the piglet duo fussed and complained about the ill treatment but no one spared a glance. The term ‘pig’ was somewhat fitting since they ate anything and solely concentrated on the food in front of them.

Laughing, I looked around to see Isana sitting in a corner while munching down a loaf of bread. I walked towards him and sat down. Even though the mercenaries showed little interest, Isana would have some curiosity and as my contractor, he had the right to know.

“Rai, did you eat a lot?”

“Yeah. But where were you? Tr.. I mean, Matthew seemed furious about something so I was worried.”

“Ah, I ran into a headache.  Anyways, after a month, we might have a new companion. Is that fine? I don’t think he’ll interfere in our plans anyways.

“It doesn’t matter for me…. Who is it?”

I had already planned to tell him so I whispered in his year.

I didn’t think that it was anything amazing but Isana thought otherwise.

His jaws dropped like a slab and his the loaf in his hand fell out as he stared in unprecedented shock.

I was just as surprised by Isana’s seemingly exaggerated expression.

“Uh.. Rai?”

“Are you serious? A real dragon? The ones whose number is no more than 50 and is called the Supreme Beings? That Dragon?”

“Hm. I don’t know about this Supreme Being crap and I don’t know about their exact census, but it is a dragon. Anyways he’ll join us after a month. I don’t think it’ll be too bad on your side so I said okay. Is that fine?”

When I carefully asked, he awkwardly gave his approval. It was only now that he had noticed the bread that had fallen from his hand. He stared at the loaf with a look of regret.

Seeing how weakly he was acting, I started to worry what would happen to him when he met that domineering lifeform.

Trom-Well, who approached without my awareness, jolted my shoulder.

“Will it be fine? You saw how he is, it’ll be difficult to restrain him.”

“Hehe. Well, I don’t have a choice. I know that there are many things I should be prepared for. Anyways, I was really surprised, Matthew. Even though you worried me so many times, I still let my guard down and got captured. It’s really embarrassing for me.”

“Don’t say that. If only I had noticed earlier, then you wouldn’t have had to endure that humiliation. And even if I warned you, prophecies are impossible to understand and the only thing I told you was to return to the Spirit World if you ever became separated with us. Even that small advice turned out to be worthless since nothing would have changed.

It is partly my fault that I didn’t give you any proper instructions, El.”

“Eh? No! What are you saying? I’m the one who’s at fault.”
