“Is, is that so?”

Well, once he was struck by a sword, it would be hard to avoid suspicion of not being a human if he did not receive a single common wound or not bleed a single drop of blood. Except for not being able to eat, the body of a Spirit was perfect. While he made an expression of admiration, he touched his arm, which was no different from the skin of an ordinary person.

Would anyone believe him if he told them that the flesh-colored skin was actually water? Even he thought it was an outrageous statement.

“Ah, jeez. El, take this.”

“….?”

As if he thought of something, Tromwell passed him a long sword, which held a fairly sharp edge. Unlike its outer appearance, once he picked it up, it wasn’t that heavy. He looked back with a quizzical look, and Tromwell gave a short explanation. A weight lightening spell had been cast on it. Originally, one would usually make the practice sword heavier. However, it was a situation where he was a novice in swordsmanship, so a magic of convenience was cast. He made an expression of thanks at his words. He looked back with round eyes, and he couldn’t help asking a question.

“Did you cast it…Tromwell?”

“Yeah. I know how to cast a simple magic. I told everyone I met a magician by chance, and I received it from him. El should also be aware of this.”

“Ah, I understand. Also… Do you think I can also learn magic?”

Tromwell nodded his head as if it was a given, when he heard the carefully spoken words. However, the following words dashed the hope I had.

“There is a limit on the amount of mana a spirit can control in the human world. Therefore, even if you know the theories, the domain that can actually be used is up to the 4th Circle. Also, you are borrowing the mana from the summoner, so it would be hard for the current El. You are better off using an incantation that has no restriction.”

“Ha-ah. I guess so. If the effects are similar, then it would be much better for me to use my own powers instead of using the incantations. Is it possible that the mana used in this place can only be handled through a Summoner?”

“Yes. The mana in the human world is too erratic. Don’t you know that the mana here isn’t compatible for a Spirit to use? That is why we the medium of a Summoner’s body is essential. This is the reason why non-contracted spirits can’t materialize their body. It can’t be helped.”

Trowell spoke up to this point before he started explaining how one should react to a monster attack. He also explained how to swing the sword. Then he started to repeatedly ask him to avoid dangerous situations.

“Do you understand? Don’t ever step in front of a monster. It is already difficult enough for El to send energy to Isana. If such an event happens then it would be difficult for you to properly escape.”

” Kook kook. (TLN:chuckle) I understand. I’ll be careful.”

As they were having this conversation, the party had increased after an unexpected person was added. After he had heard about the news of the monster subjugation, Kai showed interest in joining them. They were taken aback, but he started revealing his reason for wanting to travel with them.

“I’ve heard the Cerberus is vicious even amongst the higher ranked monsters. There may be injuries during the fight, and I want to help in healing them….”

“However, we are in a lot of danger. As you can see, we won’t be able to fight, while protecting a person….”

“We, the priests of Elwien, are all wanderers, so we’ve learned enough skills to protect ourselves. I can assure you I won’t get in your way, so please allow me to travel with you.”

Truthfully, they were short on manpower, so they didn’t have any reasons to reject him from joining. This was why Hosane smoothly accepted Mr. Kai into the party. After a short time, they finally started heading toward the South Gate.

After the mercenaries were defeated by the monsters, the people entering the South Gate became scarce. There weren’t any decent guards guarding there, so one had to look out for oneself. By the virtue of those facts, there weren’t anyone around the gate except for few people who came out to see the spectacle.

Ggeeeeeek. (TLN: sfx squeeky door)

As they opened the gate, which was closed to block the monsters from coming into the city, an endless road of dirt was revealed and it was surrounded by a thick forest. It was a chill fall weather, but the sky was surprisingly very sunny. There were colored leaves piled on the floor. However, the important monsters were actually no where to be seen.

Maybe it had run away to a different location. Hosane’s face turned more rigid than before, and he opened his mouth to speak in a low voice.

“…there is murderous intent. The bastards are nearby. Everyone stay alert and look around your surrounding.”

“We are already doing that. Jeez- As if we didn’t know they were high level, they are really savage. At the very least, they didn’t leave this place. Maybe we are fortunate in that they didn’t ambush us in a different place? ”

“Ah, shit. I hope the breakfast I ate wasn’t my last meal.”

Matthew complained for the final time, and all the party members glared at him. As the saying goes, words have a way of coming true. It was a situation where even if there were positive words spoken, it would not be enough yet he was souring everything in the early stages. In a flash, everyone’s cool gaze was focused on him, and Matthew hunched his shoulder, while making an intimidated expression. Then he clicked his tongued, and he mumbled ‘I didn’t mean it that way’. However, no one was paying attention to him anymore. At that moment, a dangerous feeling and a multitude of sound rode in with the wind.

“Krrrrrrrrrrr….”

It was the low growl of an animal. It wasn’t just one, but many. The sound rang out from various locations inside the forest. The party dryly gulped then they made a circular formation with their backs facing each other. Everyone squeezed the various weapons in their palms. It sounded like a warning growl from a dog. The rumbling growl grew steadily louder.

“Krrrrrr…..”

It was a reconnaissance. They didn’t rashly attack the people, who surely looked like they had the intent of attacking. It meant the bastards understood the real worth of the Champagne mercenaries.

“Huk….”

In a flash, the inner forest they were staring at were sparkling with several red lights. I jumped in surprise. Tromwell, who was next to me, took out a dagger. My eyes went round as he threw the dagger to the opposite of his location. Soon, I couldn’t help but be impressed by his foresight.

Right at the moment he threw the dagger- a large shadow flew into the air as it tried to attack the party.

Tromwell’s dagger accurately pierced the monster’s forehead.

Chwaaaaaaahk-(TLN:sound of dagger flying through air) Puh-uk! (TLN: sfx piercing head)

“Kwaaaaaaaang!” (TLN: monster letting out a roar.)

“Ooh-ahhhhhk!”
