ACT VI
THE AGE OF UNDEAD

CHAPTER 181
A MURDER OF CROW

“What proof do you have?”Hans asked the guards who came to arrest him and got a prompt reply as one eager knight answered, “He was found near your window, and we have witnesses that you were in a heated argument with him yesterday.”

“So I’m just a suspect." Hans paused, wringing his brain to calculate what went wrong, but it was not the time for him to be silent. "You dare to barge at my face with that measly of evidence. Do you think, I’m that free?” Hans retorted with whatever came to his mind.

“I’m just following orders.” The guard knight replied, saying, “You have to come with us.”

And seeing their determined faces and unbending will, Hans quipped, “You won’t take a no for an answer, do you?”

“We are not asking, we are telling you” A voice came from nowhere, and the castle halls fell into a heavy silence as the massive, bulky figure of a knight made his entrance. His armoured boots echoed with each step, resonating through the grand corridor. Standing tall and imposing, he was a formidable presence, his muscular frame strained against the well-crafted metal armour that encased him.

“You are coming with us brat, like it or not. How dare you murder in the capital.” He said removing his helmet as his brown, shoulder-length hair waved. His face was as rugged as Rudolf and Walter, and his aura emanated. So strong that it shook the whole castle. He then, threw the document at Walter’s face, “I have the permission of your deans, So I’m taking the suspect.”

“What the fuck is going on." Hans cried inside, "Did Xandor—”

“Are you coming or not, boy.” The imposing knight asked, his face towering over him.

“Who are you?” Hans responded without any hint of intimidation

“What? You wanna threaten me?” The knight mused.

“Yes.” Hans answered, calmly, “I need to know your name to threaten with everything you care of, friends, family, acquaintances, even your dogs and chicken. This is still a warning, but the moment I step out of those doors.” Hans said pointing outside, “That will be the moment my warning would turn into a threat. Are you able to take responsibility?” His mid was blank because he knew this man was someone even his grandpa could have problems dealing with, but his tongue moved on its own. Even Hans didn't know what he was saying.

“Pftt…” the knight laughed, “What a day! A pipsqueak is threatening me, Kansas, the chairman of the Knight association.”

“Why the fuck the top dog of the Knight Association is aiming for me.” Hans was troubled. But the knight who claimed to be the chairman of the knight association let out his warlord-level aura and it became clear that he was not impersonating anyone.

“Still wanna threaten me, boy?” The Warlord asked, his tone, now threatening, “Speak carefully. I can neglect your early antic as a junior playing cute earlier, but not after you know who I am.”

“Since when did a chairman like yourself start catching the ‘ALLEGED’ murderers,” Hans asked, confused.

“You are not some small potato and this is a high-profile kill. You’ll open your eyes when you see how much of a shit you caused, ALLEGEDLY.”

Kansas came near Hans, whispering softly in his ears, “ Xandor of Eclipse, rings any bells?” He then pushed Hans forward and further to the black steeled carriage.

Hans was pushing every gear of his mind in full swing, he was in deep shit and he needed a solution fast. All the journey, he kept thinking, but none of his plans were efficient enough to pull him out of this. “You are fucked boy.” Kansas Romero, quipped, sneering at Hans’s situation, insulting, “You see, I hate your kind. You believe that you can do anything and get away with it. A typical noble who was taught, you can do shit and do more shit after it.”

“You yourself are from that very same upbringing, Chairman Kansas,” Hans interrupted, his exterior calm as an ice block. “Or I am wrong?” He asked further.

“No, you are not.” Kansas shook his head in affirmation, saying, “I used to be from a noble household, a typical Grimgar family with power, looking down on everyone. Then I killed every last one of those assholes,” Kansas smirked, “So, your threat is no concern for a man like myself, who has nothing to lose, understand?”

“Everyone, even people like you who have nothing to lose, holds something precious. You, yourself won’t know it until it was taken away from you.”

“You really are bold—”

“Because I know, you can’t kill me, even a scratch on me will be detrimental for you.” Hans lifted his hand a dagger turned from the sharpDeath, his malleable spell. conjured in his hand and swiftly aimed at his own neck, only to be stopped by Kansas. “What the fuck are you doing?” He shouted.

“See,” Hans sneered, “You don’t look like someone who has nothing to lose. So don’t provoke me, Chairman Kansas Romero, ranked fifth knight, unless you want to lose everything you built for.”

"I can't show that I'm intimidated." During the whole ride, Kansas remained silent as Hans came up with a plan., muttering, “Xandor, I’m gonna fuck you over when I’m done with this shit. I promise.”

They reached the guard post, a lavish building with huge cranking gates. They opened as soon as the black carriage came into sight. The whole building screams of some eery vibe like it would be a place when entered there was no chance of returning back. The off-white and pale colouring, and rustling trees without leaves, added the further aesthetics that even made Hans gulp his saliva in nervousness.

“So, how was he? Samwell asked Kansas. He was the one who ordered the chairman of the Knight Association to arrest Hans himself in fear of retaliation, and to do this perfectly he even invited all the troublesome characters before he accused Hans of this crime. He couldn’t take any chances because he suspected Xandor to be on the same side as Hans, but his suspicions fortunately failed him. He asked again, shaking the froze-up Kansas. “How was he?”

“Fearless and childish,” Kansas replied and left Samwell.

As Some guards showed Hans his way to the interrogation, the old minister of Parv stopped their march, “I’ll be your council. Don’t worry about it—”

“You are not needed,” Hans felt relieved to see Arat on his side for once, yet he refused, his pride was stopping him from. asking help. "The fuck you are saying stupid. you can't weasel out like this." He cursed inside. Then he added like he was doing Arat some favour not the other way around, “But if you wanna do this much. I’m not stopping you.”

The confidence he was faking till now somehow returned, all because of one glance at Arat’s unnerving smile. “Let’s see, how deep I’m in.” And he walked entered the dark castle. Hans, stood at the centre of a dimly lit chamber, his hands bound by enchanted shackles. “Is this necessary,” he asked Arat.

“Whatever makes them feel safe,” Arat pointed, taunting the guards overseeing them.

At the far end of the chamber, bathed in the cold, flickering light of torches, the interrogator waited. Clad in the regal attire of the Elven Nation, this temporary official held the authority to extract the secrets Hans possessed and with him another waited, the king of Clandor wanting the same thing as his companion.

While some observed them from the other side of the chamber, getting a real-time view of Hans’s interrogation while some wanted this ordeal to vanish but some were eager to see Hans implicated. The elven interrogator, began as he sat across with an imposing aura, “So you are Hans Parv, correct?” He asked, his voice indifferent.

“Yes.” Hans saw no problem answering it.

“Did you kill, Kerym Rotti?”

“Now, who is he again?” Hans asked in return.

“So, you don’t know, Kerym Rotti?” The interrogator asked, still looking down at the documents and flipping its pages.

“Yes, I do not know,” Hans stressed.

“So, do you want to play a game of cat and mouse?”

“Hmm..” Hans leaned forward, staring right at the interrogator’s face as he said, “I never lost that particular game, sir. want to try it?”

The interrogator didn't give in the obvious provocation and asked with his still indifferent tone,“So, what was Kerym’s body doing outside your window.”

“Strolling probably—”

“Do you think this is a joke?” The interrogator’s temper changed, he beat the table, and asked in agitation, “Take this seriously an innocent life was lost.”

“Pftt..” Hans laughed at his face uncontrollably, “Okay okay, not strolling, probably sleeping then.”

“This bastard—”

“Mind you manners.” Arat spoke in his authoritative voice, “You are talking to someone above your league—”

"Finally got you. anger causes misjudgement." Seeing the questioning elf loosing his temper, Hans smiled inside and stopped Arat from finishing that sentence, “Calm down, Mr. Arat. You don’t have to rub his low birth on his face.” Hans shook his head, jokingly, adding, “Don’t do that, that would be racist. I’m not that right?”

The interrogator became more agitated while the people of power observing him from another chamber wondered the same thing, “Has the boy learned how to infuriate someone.”

Eleanor received some sort of communication through his beads on the ears and he nodded as someone who was following instructions. “Don’t get played by a child sir Ramez.” He tried pacifying him. But Ramez retorted as if he had no respect for his king, “He did something to a crow, not the swan, so let me handle it. It's my authority, your majesty.”
