ACT VI
THE AGE OF UNDEAD

CHAPTER 188
THE RETURN OF THE KING (2)

“The insolence.” Samson flicked his finger, horizontally, and declared the judgement of a knight that dared to raise a sword in his presence.

Imperial Sword Art: Big Dipper
A single attack consisting of seven slashes in a flash, all aimed at the heart of the target. It was one of the secrets of Imperial Sword art that the Parvian royalty had passed to only to the crown successor. A terrifying attack with a mortality rate of 100%.

"Fuck!" Walter cursed, cancelling his ultimate and focussed all on his defence but all of his defence was like paper blocking a flying knife. Big Dipper was a move that negated all defence. the only way to avoid it was offering seven lives. Walter, in a split moment called his domain.

Domain Skill: Seven sins
Fortunately, there was a still chance for Walter to survive. His domain skill unlike every knight affected him instead of surrounding. Separating himself into seven person, all of his seven persona featuring the trait of seven sins of fable. Yet one after another, each of his body fell victim to Big Dipper in an instant. The irony of the situation was only the Sloth survived. However, Big Dipper demanded a life but Sloth form of Walter's managed to weasel out just by sacrificing his legs below the thighs.

All happened in a moment. “Slash!” Walter’s leg got severed, as he crashed on the debris below.

“That’s a fucking rank sixteen,”
“How in the god’s name we are supposed to stop him.”
“We have Hero King Norwin.”
“Yes, we don’t have to worry.”

The onlookers discussed, all focusing on Norwin and Eleanor. The official two most powerful people. “Dijkstra?” Bernard called him out, “Are you going to let Xandor disrespect your king? Come already—”

“He is airborne, No…I can’t do shit in air, you know… and we never managed to defeat him. Even three of us combined…Can’t we just talk to him… he swatted Walter like an annoying fly.”

This was the first time anyone there saw Dijkstra reasoning instead of jumping in battle, but all understood where he was coming from. Walter was lucky as well, as skilled, that he shifted his body before the concise and controlled aura burst cut his heart. He was in unimaginable pain but was relieved that his domain skill had managed to save his life.

"You are in bad shape." Arat came near, spreading all the healing potion he carried. "It will only numb the pain, won't make your limbs regrow. Will you be okay?"

"Yeah, but if we don't stop him here. then..."

Suddenly a deafening roar, coming from the skies, joined the chaos.“What is this abomination.” Rudolf landed from the sky-high, belatedly realising who was the man flying in the sky. His words were stolen from his mouth as his hands shivered in disbelief. “W..why is…he..like this?” All he wanted was to see Samson once again but not like this.

As many more came to the spot, scaling the high icy walls, the one-handed dead King, began to weave his severed hand through the shiny green aura. He raised his newly made hand, alerting everyone, and the almost melted sword that opened the path of his revival, ejected from the ground to his hand, transforming itself to its once satanic appearance.

“Rebellion,” the Dead King turned to his ever-increasing audience, and finally his green-lit eyes fell on someone he recognised, “Rudolf.” He said, his voice quivering.

The voice shook Rudolf to his core. He raised his head to look at what his dead student, his son was trying to convey. “Why?” The Death king spoke, “Why were you not there to save me?”

“Don’t listen to him,” Arat shouted but it was already late for Rudolf. He blamed himself for not being there to protect him, to watch his back, to listen to his problems and to console him. He was busy helping others and unintentionally left him who needed him most. The guilt that had consumed him once returned.

“Xandor,” Rudolf fumed, his anger soaring the sky high. He might have ranked ninth, but none questioned the destructive power he carried. He cried, “Xandor, you bastard, this crossed the line.”

Rudolf’s sword, Thunderclap, which always hung somewhere in the cloud fell back into Rudolf’s hands. But the Death king opened his mouth again, “I should’ve called you father, teacher. I should’ve.”

“This bastard… I’ll never forgive you Xandor.” Rudolf cried as his eyes moistened, he always wanted to hear those words yet the living one never spoke them. Recalling Samson’s quirking and naughty smile of childhood, Rudolf’s eyes cried as he Roared.

Skill: Astrape

The full power of a lightning bolt from the heavens fell on the dead King. It was Rudolf’s ultimate that he could only use once since his ThunderClap kept collecting power as it floated among the cloud. It was more powerful than the whole people combined there. Yet Rudolf was not done there, “Dijkstra—”

“On, it,”, tapping Rudolf’s shoulder, Dijkstra responded and they came right beneath Samson. Rudolf bellowed once again.

Skill: Ascension

Putting all of his Grade ninety aura, Rudolf launched like a projectile, a beam of lighting, hitting Samson from beneath while the Astrape did the same from above. The impact was something else as it charred Samson’s body from blue to black.

“Swoosh!” Rudolf reappeared with Dijkstra, in his initial position. Dijkstra asked looking at the still ongoing attack, as he handed Walter with his severed legs for immediate heal, “Will it end him?” He asked.

“If it’s not then we will be at Xandor’s mercy,” Rudolf answered, gasping, his skills were devastating, but they came with a price. The Ascension had dried him and he was showing symptoms of aura exhaustion. The condition where a knight couldn’t regenerate aura on his own.

“Hey, you brat come here,” Dijkstra commanded Chris, who was busy looking at the powerful ongoing strike. He was with Rudolf when everything happened and was dragged here. There was a reason why Rudolf was considered a wreaking cannonball and the sheer sight of his skills was proof of that.

However, Chris was not going to make the mistake of ignoring the Sad Death, he hurriedly came to his side. Dijkstra pulled a sharp steel stick, the same size as a spoon and struck Rudolf’s shoulder. He then commanded Chris to transfer his aura to Rudolf. Unlike mana, aura needed an inorganic medium and it was the first aid they used on the battlefield, as baffling as it sounded to Chris, his act made some vigour return to Rudolf. Finally, the skill, vaporising Samson also ended, leaving everyone in question, was it the end of the Dead King or did the world soon face his worst enemy?

A FEW MOMENTS BEFORE, THE CAPITAL CITY

When Rudolf hadn’t arrived there, and others were fighting. Hans began his march to the cemetery, as he felt his heart shaking violently. “Hey! Stop. Are you crazy?” Delimira pulled him as she blew another undead to shreds. She pointed out, snapping Hans from his daze, “That is the epicentre of chaos—”

“Help me Deli,” Hans said, his eyes begging.

She had never seen him like this and it was not his usual tone. “What’s wrong?” She asked, looking in the direction of the concentrated mana’s place.

“I don’t know, I have to be there. I just know, I have to be there.” Hans said in frenzy, something foreboding his mind.

She never felt Hans so vulnerable. “Fine, let's go,” she said inhaling a long breath, as iridescent scales began to appear on her hand, “I’ll take you there.” Her voice deepened, “But that’s one long road.” Her assurance must have calmed him down a bit so his wit started working again. He looked here and there, and stopped a young man hurrying to the emergency shelter. “Where is the nearest mana gem shop?”

“What?” The running man tried shaking the child’s grip, yet failed. He said stressing, “Run stupid, save your life, money comes later—”

“Where the hell is the mana gem shop? Answer me” Hans forced.

“Stop harassing the poor bastard.” A slender man, full of the mana of a world mage, the eighth circle responded as he pointed to the east. “Go, rob it, I don’t give a damn, just stop putting others in danger. They have no nobles to protect.”

Suddenly it dawned on Hans, that even in this pandemonium, he never saw any reinforcements coming. The patrol guards struggled for a while, but the overwhelming number had them retreating back. In the name of protection, all citizens were ordered to make their way to Emergency shelters on their own.

“Who are you?” Hans asked.

“Me, don’t you remember me…Ha..sorry. it was my assistant that argued with you. Not me. You sent one of my disciples packing before the Glory Wars—”

“Ha.. that pervert,” Hans recalled and many from the Devildom came one after another. Ignoring his words, the world mage, ordered his students, “Listen well, these fucking deep pockets will not spare any knight or mage for the commoners like you. So it's your job to save as many as you can. Understand?”

“Yes sir.” All said in unison, as Hans gazed at the whole six students, not finding the one he sent out cold. “They are around our age, but the four knights are around grade 50 and two mages, all have four circles. Prof. Walter did say, they all were monsters in the making.” He looked at their teacher, “Just how is he teaching them.” Hans wondered prompting the world mage’s attention, “So what will you be doing, after robbing the store?”

Hans pointed to the main battle, “I need to go there.”

“That’s one tough journey young man—”

“I have to go,” Hans stressed.

“We need to save people,” the eighth circle mage muttered pointing at the way to the huge icy walls, “More would be in trouble as it is close to the main battle.” The world mage took a brief pause again, and continued, “You are in luck, follow us." He then turned to his students, "Listen up, you dimwits, search every nook and cranny—”

“This is inefficient.”.Hans commented suggestively, “I have a better way. Follow me." A plan came to his mind, with him and Delimira, it would take a lot of effort to reach the main battle but he ran into many powerful people. If he did not use this opportunity it would sit right with him.
