Chapter 83: Ailea’s Brother
Cyril Elgar Euliana was puzzled. He did not understand why his beloved sister and fiancé to the crown prince is now the wife of Clint Risher de Excalibur, the latter being a promiscuous philanderer. Cyril meant to visit Ailea, and he planned to do it at the right time. He meant to visit earlier too, but Ailea refused, stating in the letter not to visit her.
This sudden revelation left him confused. It was ridiculous. He needed to see it with his own eyes.
Before heading to Sutton, he visited the Imperial Castle a frigid man.
Emperor Murray received him warmly and permitted his audience. The emperor instructed the knights to bring Cyril to the Oval Office. A handsome young man with silver-white hair and light blue eyes resembling Ailea greeted him politely.
The emperor was at complete loss, unsure how to treat him. He meant to reward Cyril’s father, so he brought Ailea to the Imperial Castle and engaged her to the crown prince. Now their engagement broke and she now resides at the border. It truly left him at a loss.
His health had deteriorated these days; he was wary of the vigor of today’s youth, especially Cyril’s warranted anger.
“It’s a pleasure meeting you, Cyril,” Emperor Murray greeted, suddenly remembering what Cyril looked like as a child. He came here once, but he was far too young then.
“What happened?” Cyril asked. “Why is my sister in Excalibur and not in the Imperial Castle?”
Emperor Murray smiled bitterly. “Why don’t you sit down for now. I will need to explain.”
“Fine.” Cyril sat on the chair. “Please explain, Your Majesty.”
Emperor Murray spoke warmly. “You understand that your sister is ill, right?”
“Yes.” Cyril nodded. “I’ve heard the news.”
Cyril screened the emperor, wondering what her illness had to do with anything. The Teniac Empire had a strong foundation and wielded iron-like imperial powers. The powers of the aristocracy were not weak either.
Emperor Murray soothed his doubt. “To put it bluntly, Ailea and Lawrence were not compatible. He loathes her and finds her appearance horrid. But Clint is different. He loves women of every kind.”
“…I see.”
“I thought that it would be for the best if Ailea lived with him than with my son who would not even look her way.” Emperor Murray sighed. “It just happened. How can a woman with her illness ever be loved?”
Emperor Murray thought he made a clever argument.
“Your Majesty,” Cyril murmured.
“Yes?”
“Are insinuating that my sister is undeserving of love?” Cyril asked.
The emperor did not answer.
“No, that can’t be,” he said cynically, smiling. “I must have misunderstood, right?”
Emperor Murray had a hunch; if ever his son becomes emperor, then he would never be able to form an amicable relationship with Cyril Elgar Euliana.
His mind began calculating. Euliana Castle was not relatively too far from the Imperial Castle, but the Imperial Castle was far from Excalibur. If ever Euliana Castle and Excalibur formed an alliance, it would affect the nearby fiefdom. They would join their side, posing a threat to the emperor’s seat.
Emperor Murray realized that he had made a mistake blinded by his deep love for Lawrence.
Cyril rose from his seat. “I’ll be leaving first, Your Majesty.”
“Why don’t you have a cup of tea first?”
