“Weird. Just like what you said. He vanished… like a ghost…”

The voice answers after ten minutes of waiting. Droon is in disbelief. After hacking the Cube’s system, and spreading his drones, he still cannot find the trace of the mysterious silhouette. What he doesn’t know is that his hacking is being guided by an invisible hand.

Yi Byul opens her eyes and smacks her lips. It is a habit that often comes out when she is dissatisfied. It seems that the recruitment mission has to stop in the meantime. It is unfortunate. Still, she cannot risk her life over something so dangerous and unexpected.

“Is there really nothing you can glean from that encounter?” She asks, making sure that this mission cannot be saved anymore.

Droon’s gift allows him to manifest things he experienced and is experiencing.

He can manifest his eyesight and hearing somewhere else and more.

The summoned creatures through his Gift can act as a receptacle for him to gather information. He has tools that are impervious to the hacking of others, making him quite invincible in the field of data gathering. “I really cannot find him… Did you really make eye contact with whoever that was?”

“Maybe,” Even Yi Byul is starting to doubt herself, aware of the extent of Droon’s abilities. “I am not sure anymore…”

“Do you want me to look further into it?”

“…No.” Yi Byul drops her head, thinking over what to do with their infiltration coming to loose. There are a lot of strong characters mingling around Cube. Each of them has the right to call themselves strong. It doesn’t cow the Chameleon Troupe as they are confident to come and go as much as they like.

“I don’t like our chances, but I think we can make do with what we have. I don’t want this trip to be a waste. Droon, plan an escape route ahead of time.”

“Oh, Lady Boss, you were here.”

At that moment, an imposing voice resounds. Yi Byul turns around. There, a large-bodied man is smiling viciously. “It’s been a while, Lady Boss.” He adds.

It is a bit funny seeing a man call a woman, whose height couldn’t reach his shoulders, Boss. However, the man clearly treats the woman with great respect. “This place is filled with powerful Heroes.” Click, click. The man clenches and unclenches his gauntlet-covered fist.

“Take it off. We didn’t come here to cause trouble.”

“Ah, right. I almost forgot.” Cheok Jungyeong disengages his gauntlets.

At Yi Byul’s command, Jungyeong’s black gauntlet scatters into dust. He then scratches his neck in silence, while the woman glares at him coldly.

“W-what?” He softly mutters, startled, feeling the pressure of the gaze. It is not that Jungyeong is afraid, it is just that the judgmental scrutiny feels irksome and annoying to some extent.

Yi Byul’s continued gaze is making him uncomfortable.

Droon from the other side, from wherever he is watching enlightens Jungyeong of the meaning of Yi Byul’s gaze. “The report.”

“Oh, right.” Jungyeong shows a look of understanding. He has a report to make— to scout for potential recruits. “There’s nothing to report. I can pop everyone’s heads with a flick of a finger.”

“Idiot… That’s obvious. I’m talking about their future potential.” Droon scolds Jungyeong harshly, but Jungyeong doesn’t care. After all, he doesn’t hit kids, and Droon still belongs in that category.

Jungyeong rubs his chin and ponders.

“Hm… I’m not sure. I went to watch the second year’s rank 1 cadet, but he wasn’t anything special.”

“First years are who you should be watching. This year’s freshmen are said to be exceptional, so go look again. I have something to do now, so talk to you later, guys!”

“Yeah, screw off.” Jungyeong cusses, only for to Droon leave him on dead air.

Jungyeong smiles and stares at Yi Byul. “I don’t think there are any good saplings. What do we do? Since we’re here, can’t we fight these self-proclaimed heroes?” He doesn’t even hide his willingness to fight. He flaunts his battle spirit by releasing his magic power, which flutters in the air through the wind.

Though it is a careless move that can draw a keen Hero’s attention, Yi Byul watches his actions without a change in her expression.

“…Gyeong.”

“Mm?”

“Let’s test something.”

Yi Byul imbues magic power into her necklace. Immediately, the necklace changes color from gold to blue. “How is it? Can you see me?”

“Oho, is that the treasure you got before? I can see a faint silhouette, but not your face. Ah, I have to focus. Even though you’re not moving, I keep losing sight of you if I’m not focused. Ah, you just fused with the tree!”

“…”

As she is expecting, the necklace is working perfectly fine. Although Cheon Jungyeong is a muscle-brained brute who only trains his body, he still has a deep perception that matches his skill. But even he cannot see through her, so who in the world did she just meet eye contact with back then?

“Oh, dang. I can’t tell where you are now Lady Boss. Let me borrow that too. I’m way too noticeable because of my large body. If there’s someone I wanted to kill…”

“We’re done. Go.” Yi Byul cuts off Jungyeong’s tirade.

“Yes, Lady Boss.” Jungyeong turns around without a fuss.

Yi Byul watches him walk away imposingly. His bulky back, mountainous shoulders, and flawlessly refined physique show that he is anything but simple. In reality, he is an irregular who has inherited the old Martial God’s spirit and vigor.

“Cheok Jungyeong wasn’t always that stupid, right?” Droon voices his worry. His excuse from a while ago is just his way of deflecting the big annoying simpleton.

Korean Peninsula’s strongest swordsman and a storm of an era that commands the country’s fate. His name is Cheok Jungyeong. That was the ‘past life’ that he awakens through enlightenment and inheritance.

“Wow, sends me shivers…” A voice suddenly interrupts the exchange between Droon and Yi Byul.

“Who? How!?” Droon’s surprise comes to a sudden halt as his connection is mercilessly cut off.

Yi Byul frowns at the sudden intruder. Droon’s Gift is suddenly cut off for some reason. She concentrates her eyes, searching for Droon’s magic power around her but there is nothing. “What did you do?”

“Calm down, beautiful! First, let me introduce myself.” A dorky Wizard Hat of some sort catches Yi Byul’s attention. “My name is Savant.”

Savant wears a curious ensemble as if cosplaying as some Goth wizard. “Is he perhaps a mage?” Yi Byul initially thought, but measuring the presence of the person in front of her suggests differently.

“Are you an assassin? You have impressive skills.” She compliments Savant, trying to dig for more information. She isn’t sure, but Savant’s presence is psychologically provoking anonymity just like the way her Siren’s necklace does.

Savant rubs the side of his hat, his thoughts are unknown as the white mask with question mark covers his face. “No, I am not an assassin! I come at peace!” He raises both hands showing the lack of any weapons.

“Maybe he has a hidden weapon?” Yi Byul concludes. If this Savant has any common sense, he should have a weapon or two. The presence of the new arrival is making Yi Byul fidgety. “How long have you been there?”

“Ah~! My entrance might be misinterpreted as hostile, but I come in peace!”

For some reason, Yi Byul feels like the face hiding underneath the mask is smiling. Yi Byul observes the person before her very carefully. Under the hat, there is jet-black hair. From the skin tone, he must be in his youth and the voice… Yi Byul cannot give a confident answer as the voice sounds too unhinged as if this Savant is always excited.

The last thing Yi Byul wants is to be acquainted with a madman. She has had enough of one madman.

“What do you want?” Yi Byul hides her magic power very carefully while putting more magic power into her necklace and shadow.

“Oh my~” Savant places his hands on his waist in… some kind of power pose. “You want a fight? If you want, I will indulge you, but know that the Heroes will be unto you if we duke it out.”

“…” Yi Byul’s silence means many things. Who is the masked man? What are his intentions? How did Droon, Jungyeon, and she not detect him at all? And… what is his affiliation? A Hero? A Djinn? Maybe from another underworld organization?

“I just want to talk.” Savant lies flat to the ground in an X whereas all of his limbs are outstretched, and his body is exposed. Like an animal, he shows subservience in the lowest form imaginable. “So, can we talk?”
